big fish

Post by Kriista »

saw it last night, was looking forward to it since i saw the first sign/preview

was way diff style was than burtons other pictures, was almost a 'pop' movie for him,

did have a great fairytale type feel

the cast/acting was outstanding, ewan mcgreggor/helena bohnman carter/and the guy who played the dad stand out

not my fav burton film, but still good, probably buy it when it comes out

I am downloading it now, and it is not the easiest thing to fucking do. BT wants to stop the download every 5 percent. :(

Use Newsgroups for new movies! Much faster than BT. BT is good for movies that aren't currently flooding the alt.binaries.blah.blah.blah groups.

I actually wanna see this movie because of the song playing during the previews.... "my heart goes boom boom boom" ... actually, it seems like an interesting and DIFFERENT plot.

... and yes.. newsgroups = the good!

this movie, to me is as good as, if not better than Forrest Gump. It is kind of the same outline --following the main character through a bunch of crazy adventures-- and blended a guy movie with a chick flick quite well. I will buy this the day it comes out on dvd..

I have been a Burton fan for a long, long time. When I was an angsty teen, he was angsty, too... When I was fascinated by stop motion and Ray Harryhausen, he made stop-motion pictures...

Then...somewhere...he started to sorta suck.

He and Danny Elfman had their falling out around the time of Ed Wood.

He made a string of seriously, *seriously* sub-par movies. Planet of the Apes was horrendous. Sleepy Hollow was pretty, and very Burton-esque, but the script was abysmal so the overall feeling was one of suckage.

Mars Attacks....meh....

Now, after a long hiatus to re-discover his muse, he brings us Big Fish. I don't know if it can top Nightmare Before Christmas for me (though technically, Henry Selick directed that one), but it is up there. This is easily his most adult and most accomplished movie to date. Working with a good script this time, Burton brings his grandiose fairy-tale style to the screen flawlessly. The story is, at different times, whimisical, fantastic, dear, funny....it's a great movie. This one was one of my favorites for the year, along with Return of the King and Lost in Translation. Good stuff.

...and it almost makes up for Planet of the Apes.

Just saw this yesterday. It was great, I loved all of the stories and I absolutely loved how it ended. Good cinema. Burton redeems himself from Planet of The Apes =). Of his movies, it reminds me the most of Edward Scissorhands, which, along with Nightmare before Christmas are my favorites of his.

I loved it. I haven't seen a movie that had such a magical/fairytale feel since I was a kid.
