If you're anything like me, you have a lot of mp3's that you've collected from various sources (ripping yourself, buying, stealing, etc) and the metadata associated with them is shit. Enter MusicBrainz. A community project trying to create a comprehensive music information site, they have a program that will go through your mp3s and compare them to the database and come up with likely matches based on a variety of characteristics including acoustic signature (which is pretty pimp). If it matches with enough of a threshold it'll automatically update your ID3 tags and it can also rename all your mp3 files into a standard format that you specify. If it doesn't pass the threshold, it puts those files into a spot where you can manually compare them to suggestions it has, click a button and it'll update the files for you

I've been attempting to clean up my music collection for several days now, and this tool has been invaluable. So far it's identified over 9000 of my mp3s, and I've manually done about a thousand. Only a thousand more to go!
