The Island

1) It's a Michael Bay movie.

2) It's better than Dukes of Hazzard.

3) Action scenes seemed to be directed by the same person who did the shaky camera in Bourne Supremacy... No sir, I don't like it. Variety didn't either: "Yet for all the vertiginous camera movements and ace visual effects, the action remains tension-free and largely incoherent, thanks to attention-deficit editing by Paul Rubell and Christian Wagner."

4) The first half of the movie was interesting. The second half... Not as good. Mainly because you figure out just about everything in the first half so there's no real surprise you're just waiting for it to end.

5) Very obvious product placement where the camera stop on the logos for a second annoyed me. I don't mind product placement when it's not so obvious.

6) 6/10 (Originally was going to be a 7 but by the time I got done with my list I changed my mind)

When will filmakers start to realise that moving/shaking the cameras and machinegun editing in action/fight scenes is annoying and distracting...

I enjoyed this movie overall. As previously mentioned, the action scenes were filmed with the shaky camera effect which is annoying but the overall topic and message of the film kept my attention.

It reminded me a bit of Logan's Run although it's hard to match the two movies up. The first half was indeed more interesting than the second but there was enough new developments in the second half to keep me watching.

The whole clone thing is interesting to me so that may have scored some points. The action scenes were over the top and the ending was cliché and predictable. The guy chasing them in the movie remided me of the singer Seal.

Best line in the movie:

"There is one universal truth. Never give your credit card to a woman."

I think if you can phase out the shaky camera action scenes and ignore some of the corny "discovering the joys of being human" stuff, you'll be left with a movie that's average but involves a hot topic with the stem cell debates etc of late.

I give it a 75/100
