Wow, O'Reilly is an asshole! It seems like he does nothing but insult Jon Stewart, his audience and his show... I hardly believe 87% of the people who patch his show are intoxicated, thats ridiculous!

Well, when the demographic for the survey is Berkely college students....you get 87% are high or drunk past 10pm everynight...

If they demo'd folk who work everyday, but watch the daily show, like myself, it would be a much more normal statistic, like 50% high :)

I think it's a totally fair asessment of Daily Show audiences. It would, admittedly, have been nice if he'd given some comparative statistics, such as the fact that 83% of O'Rielly watchers masturbate to his show.

I mean, there's nothing wrong with that or anything. It's totally cool. I just wish they wouldn't do it in the Sony Store when the big screen TVs play his show.

STEWART: I don't recall the president stopping by the program.

O'REILLY: But McCain's been on.

STEWART: Yes.

O'REILLY: OK. Kerry's been on, as we mentioned.

STEWART: Yes.

O'REILLY: I've been on. So you've had the three most powerful people beside him on.
And he says it's scary that Stewart has influence? lol

To be honest I think Stewart pretty much got off as a nice cool hip guy, while O'Reilly looked like a guy who was freaking out just cuz a president nominee is trying to get votes.

You dont see Jon Stewart making fun of O'Reilly for 80% of his audience being obese, undersexed, middle aged, mildly racist, heavily religious white men
Its so classless to invite a comedian on to your show only to make fun of his audience

I remember when Jon Stewart had Tom Brokaw on the show, and Tom made a comment about "those of us 'real news broadcasters'". The crowd went "Ooooo", so Jon stands up, taking his jacket off as if ready to go at it with Tom. I laughed so hard .

he is on CNN International on Sat and Sun nights. They do a 30 minute show (both nights are the same) compiling the best clips from a week. If your cable/sat provider has CNNfn I believe it would be on 11pm eastern Sat/Sun nights (207 on DISH i think). Might be worth a TiVo just because since it is compiled clips, it is probably a hilarious 30 minutes.

He wouldn't fit well on CNN-US, but I believe TBS or TNT (same company) passed on the show several years ago, and they wish they didn't, hehe.

Funny update:

http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/TV/09/2 ... index.html
NEW YORK (AP) -- The folks at Comedy Central were annoyed when Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly kept referring to "The Daily Show" audience as "stoned slackers."

So they did a little research. And guess whose audience is more educated?

Viewers of Jon Stewart's show are more likely to have completed four years of college than people who watch "The O'Reilly Factor," according to Nielsen Media Research.

O'Reilly's teasing came when Stewart appeared on his show earlier this month.

"You know what's really frightening?" O'Reilly said. "You actually have an influence on this presidential election. That is scary, but it's true. You've got stoned slackers watching your dopey show every night and they can vote."

Comedy Central executives realized, and O'Reilly acknowledged, that he was poking fun. But they said they didn't want a misconception to persist.

"If the head of General Motors was watching O'Reilly's show, that could be very important to us," said Doug Herzog, Comedy Central president.

"If you listen to O'Reilly, you get the sense that it was crazy longhairs behind the show," he said. "And it's not. It's great, smart television that attracts a well-compensated audience, most of whom are voting age."

Relax, said Fox News Channel spokesman Rob Zimmerman.

"Comedy Central must have lost their sense of humor," Zimmerman said. "Without Jon Stewart, Comedy Central would turn into the Great American Country Channel."

Comedy Central also touted a recent study by the University of Pennsylvania's National Annenberg Election Survey, which said young viewers of "The Daily Show" were more likely to answer questions about politics correctly than those who don't.

Comedy Central had no statistics on how many people watch "The Daily Show" stoned.

Although seemingly taken aback by repeated "stoned slackers" references while talking with O'Reilly, Stewart was ready with a joke.

"This election is going to rely on the undecided," he said. "And who is more undecided than stoned slackers? Ice cream or pretzels? Ice cream or pretzels? What's it going to be?

Whether it's the slacker or no-slacker zone, O'Reilly is entering it October 7, when he's scheduled to appear on "The Daily Show."

So if Stewart's audience is comprised of stoned slackers, how would Herzog describe O'Reilly's audience?

"I'm not getting into that game," he said.
Freedom of speech makes it much easier to spot the idiots.

Neat. Not sure if that proves anything other than it probably proved Bill's point. Afterall, most stoners learn that fine trait in college. :)

No surprise.. Daily Show attracts intelligent viewers, liberal or conservative, since you'd need some kind of intelligence to understand half the humour, whereas O'Reilly just attracts the toe-chewing idiots who lean right. I'd like to see their viewer shares for their timeslots tho... O'Reilly probably has a bigger audience, seeing as how there's so many fucking morons out there.

yet another cnn.com article backing Daily show viewers:

'Daily Show' viewers ace political quiz
Survey reveals late-night TV viewers better informed
Wednesday, September 29, 2004 Posted: 6:39 AM EDT (1039 GMT)

Viewers of Stewart, Letterman and Leno scored better on a quiz of political knowledge than people who do not watch late-night comedy.

(CNN) -- So, three guys are watching TV.

One turns on Jay Leno. One tunes into David Letterman. And the other watches Jon Stewart.

Who's better informed politically?

In a recent survey, viewers of Stewart's "The Daily Show" on Comedy Central tested better than Letterman and Leno viewers on a six-question politics quiz.

Viewers of all three shows know more about the background of presidential candidates and their positions on issues than people who don't watch late-night TV.

On top of that, "Daily Show" viewers know more about election issues than people who regularly read newspapers or watch television news, according to the National Annenberg Election Survey. (Pop quiz)

Dannagal Goldthwaite Young, a senior research analyst at the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania, said "Daily Show" viewers came out on top "even when education, party identification, following politics, watching cable news, receiving campaign information online, age and gender are taken into consideration."

The quiz was given to 19,013 adults between July 15 and September 19.

The quiz included these questions:

"Who favors allowing workers to invest some of their Social Security contributions in the stock market?" Answer: Bush.

"Who urges Congress to extend the federal law banning assault weapons?" Answer: Kerry.

While viewers of NBC's "The Tonight Show" and CBS' "The Late Show" scored better than the general public, Stewart's fans came out on top.

Forty-nine percent of Leno and Letterman viewers got a perfect score on the quiz.

But 60 percent of "Daily Show" viewers answered all six questions correctly.

Just 42 percent of those who read a newspaper four days a week aced the test. Only 40 percent of those who watch network news four days a week got every answer right.

Comedy Central was waiting for news like this. On September 17, Stewart appeared on Bill O'Reilly's "The O'Reilly Factor" only to be told his viewers are "stoned slackers" and "dopey kids."

"You know what's really frightening?" O'Reilly asked Stewart. " You actually have an influence on this presidential election. That is scary, but it's true."

Comedy Central used its viewers' test scores Tuesday to strike back at Fox News Channel and O'Reilly's viewers.

It also trotted out stats from Nelson Media Research to show that Stewart's viewers are not only smart, but more educated than O'Reilly's.

"Daily Show" viewers are 78 percent more likely than the average adult to have four or more years of college education, while O'Reilly's audience is only 24 percent more likely to have that much schooling.

Plus, the network noted, "Daily Show" viewers are 26 percent more likely to have a household income more than $100,000, while O'Reilly's audience is only 11 percent more likely to make that much money.

So the guy watching Stewart may not only be smart, but may also be rich.

OMG! Daily Show viewers tend to have a better grasp of the world around them than most? No shit? =p

Of course they do. People who actually know shit are the natural enemies of partisan dumbass groups like MoveOn or the O'Reilly crew.
