I did get Darkness 2 as well, pretty much using your exact logic. It has good reviews so I don't think it will suck. I'm actually curious to try it out. I also did some impulse buying on Amazon too.

El Shaddai
Dungeon Siege 3 (Jice liked it, it was 15$!)
House of the Dead Overkill for PS3 (and 2 PS Move Sharpshooters)
Earth Defense Force: Armageddon

Those were all dirt cheap and on my wishist so I grabbed them. The House of the Dead and the guns are for an upcoming party at my house. I fugure it would be a great party game for people to drop in and out of or just hand tge gun off to someone else when they had their fill. Of course, I can use them for other games after the party. That's a win/win!

Starting today, PlayStation Plus members automatically get the following games: Virtua Fighter 5, inFAMOUS 2, Little Big Planet 2, Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, Just Cause 2, Saints Row 2, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, Hard Corp: Uprising, Choplifter HD, Zombie Apocalypse Never Die Alone, and Sideway NY.
Not bad. Most of the ones that interest me I have already finished though. Still a better deal than you'll find from Microsoft!

I might have to pay for PS+ for a month or so to play those. I was really interested in infamous and Space Marines.

The past few months have had some great free/sale titles for PS+

Last month Awesomenauts was free... I played the shit out of that.
Also, Disney Universe was on sale for $15. My kids love that game.

Motorstorm Apocalypse $20 at NewEgg. Not as good as the $5 Best Buy deal but at least it's in stock (as of now).

I don't really play that many games except for EQ. While I did finish 4 games in June I did have like a 2.5 month period prior to that where I barely turned the PS3 on.

Oh and latest PSN update:
Break out the fireworks for the July 3rd PlayStation Store update, where PlayStation Plus members will be able to download Gotham City Impostors, Pac-Man Championship Edition DX, and Renegade Ops for FREE!
Nothing spectacular but some stuff there good for a few hours of entertainment. I don't think I'll spend much time with GCI but I might give it a look. And I already have P-M CEDX for the 360 but I'll probably replay it since I remember the achievements/trophies being fairly easy. Can't pass up free trophies!

Best Buy is currently selling Kindoms of Amalur: Reckoning for $39.99 in their current ad! However this months @Gamer magazine (Best Buy retails magazine) has a coupon for $30 off all versions of this game.
I don't get the magazine but supposedly you can pick it up in the store for $5 so you're still getting the game for $15. I might stop by BB tomorrow see if they have any copies.

It's true. My friend bought it yesterday but I think it came out to 10$. Skyrim is also only 30$ as well as a bunch more games on clearance.

FYI, there is a BB employee there that I have sort of made friends with over the years that told me the week if July 22nd-28th they will be doing a crazy warehouse sale with titles being 75-90% off. He didn't have a title list yet but he said it sounds like it is going to be insane. Boxed sets and special editions will be included in the sale, which he said is really rare. It may be an "end of gen" thing or BB wanting to reduce inventory in general and improve quarterly sales. Who knows. His job is to mark product that is on sale, so I guess he would know.

Take it as a rumor, but mentally make a point to check out BB as early as possible next week, Sunday am if the sale is actually real.

I think NewEgg or someone had NeverDead for $6 also. I'm usually one to say "Eh.. How bad can it be?" but that game sounds bad at any price so... Pass!

As far as being there when I opened.. I didn't know it was on sale until later in the day. Besides it was Sunday.. My day of rest. I normally don't go anywhere on Sunday! I'm sure I'll pick it up eventually when it hits $20. Would have been nice to have saved $5 but oh well. The worst part about it was I got accosted by some DirectTV dude in BB trying to get me to buy their service so that was 15 minutes wasted. I should have just said "I'm not interested" and walked away but I'm too nice for that. Best Buy sucks no wonder I don't go there anymore!

Oh speaking of Best Buy. I think their deal of the day tomorrow is Need For Speed:The Run for $5. Short game and got fairly crappy reviews but I'd be in for $5 if available.

Ordered my copy. $5.35 (tax). Ha those people who paid $60 for it. Heck even $5 might be too much! That's what they get for not reading reviews.
Need For Speed The Run is a good racing game that I was hoping would be great, and instead wound up being greatly hurt by its difficulty and lack of content. It's disappointing to see a Need For Speed game that isn't worth full-price and really is better as a rental, but that's the case here. The Run mode can be beaten in a day, and there simply isn't enough other content here to warrant a full-priced purchase. It's a short-lived, but incredibly exciting thrill ride that I'd recommend paying $30 or so for if you must own it, but not $60.
I wanted to like The Run and early on, I genuinely did, but things quickly started to fall apart, culminating in some courses that were nothing but pure frustration. A few bright spots and interesting online aren't enough to escape mediocrity.
Frustrating games are the best!

Video review!

Oh and as far as checking the store this Sunday for deals.. The BB near me has pretty crappy stock. I looked it over yesterday when I stopped by and nothing too exciting so I doubt I'll bother. Besides I don't want to run into that DirecTV guy again!

Also, word is that Resistance 3 will be $10 for Deal of the Day for Friday. I might get that. I didn't think R2 was all that great and didn't even bother with the online portion.

I also got NFS the Run today. I ordered online and will pick it up in store later today.

EDIT: My local BB also has a pretty shitty selection lately. I'll go on Sunday just to pick over PS3 and Wii games and grab anything I want at dirt cheap prices.

I also wanted to mention that I got No More Heroes for the PS3 for 15$

How underwhelming. Oh well. I'll get FF13-2 for 15$ on PS3. For 10$ I might get Madden 12 too. First football game I will have ever owned for the past 3 generations.

Supposedly there will be more based on whatever the store has in stock. Or something. I think these are just what's in the ad.

Sonic Generations (360/PS3) $15 at NewEgg. It got moderately decent reviews but I'm still debating this one as I'm definitely not a Sonic fan.

Yeah, what is listed is just the tip of the ice berg. People are mining BB locations online and coming up with loads and loads of titles that some locations are pre-marking down in preparation for Sunday. It is going to be based on location and stock. I'll be making a trip Sunday am to the biggest BB in my area along with a couple of friends.

I saw Shadows of the Damned for 9.99, Marvel vs Capcom for 9.99, and a handful of others listed that I will jump on at cheap prices if my store has them. I'll just set a 100$-ish limit and go nuts.

Best Buy sale is now live and you can order (some of) them online. I picked up a few things. They weren't all at one store so had to choose pick up at two different ones. Nothing too exciting and really nothing I would have bought if it wasn't on sale. Like the Tron: Evolution collectors edition.. Can't go wrong for $10! Well maybe you can since the game doesn't look all that great.

Assuming those stores actually have the items in stock. I'm thinking they might say "Sorry! We really didn't have that item" on a couple of them. Just because the web site says the store has them they frequently end up not having them. At least based on posts I've read.

I got:

Madden 12 (360)
NCAA Football 12 (360)
Xmen Destiny (360)
Shadows of the Damned (360)
FF XIII-2 (PS3)

All for 65$. I'm happy.

Since I haven't played a football game since playing 1 night at a party a decade ago on the PS2, I really look forward to seeing how far the games have evolved!

Also for anyone with a PSP (that actually still uses it) they have 'Sony - Memory Stick Micro M2 (4GB) for PSPgo and PSP' available for $2. I haven't turned on my PSP in probably a year but I picked up 3 of these. Not sure why!

In addition I got:

Madden 12. Again not sure why. I have really no desire to play sports games so I guess I'll see what all the fuss is about. It also sounds like an easy platinum trophy!
Sims 3: Pets - Never played a Sims thing but it was $5.. How bad can it be! Maybe it being $5 answers the question?
Tron: Evolution Collectors Edition - I admit seeing the "$120 Regular Price" marked down to $10 made it seem like I was getting a crazy deal. But I'm probably not.
Deus Ex - Human Revolution - I have no idea what this is other than a shooter thing. Maybe. I just remember it getting decent reviews.
Dragon Age II - No idea when I'll have time for an RPG but I figure $10 is about as low as this will probably go. I wonder if I should bother trying to find DA:O first.
X-Men: Destiny - This looks like a pretty bad game!
Rocketfish Universal Headset - Not expecting greatness for $15 but I needed one for my PC. It might see some 360 use as well if I ever decide to turn that back on.

I considered Socom 4 but reviews were fairly bad and also the platinum sounds hard. Yes that is one of my criteria when purchasing games I wouldn't normally purchase (see Madden 12)! So even for $10 it didn't sound all that great.

So add those along with the recently purchased Resistance 3, Need for Speed The Run, and Sonic Generations I come to the conclusion that I really need to stop buying games.

Deus Ex is a great game. "Shooter" is a very loose description, but it does fit into that wheelhouse. You can kit your character out in a number of different ways. I think I played through the first mission or two as stealthy as possible but ended up running in guns blazing like a fucking idiot after trying and failing at being sneaky. You can approach the missions in quite a few different ways, which is pretty cool and different. You kind of have to stop and take note of a room before you tackle it, kinda like batman AA-ish. Graphics are good, story is engaging, and it has good reviews. I would call that a good pick up!

And yes, I am also looking forward to seeing how bad that Xmen game is. And yes, I also need to stop buying games. But, as I've said before, I cannot turn down a deal!

I picked up all my items except the headset which was magically nowhere to be found and wasn't listed in their system that I had ordered it. Unfortunately I did not have a printout of the order so I'll have to make another 16 mile trip although I will call first.

One thing I have to say is that the Tron CE was nowhere near worth $120. It's just the game, a movie coupon (expired now) and a plastic light cycle made in China. It doesn't even do anything cool like light up. I only paid $10 for it and even I feel a bit jipped!

I'm still trying to platinum Castlevania Lords of Shadow (some of those trials are hard!) so it will be at least a week before I can start on any of these although X-Men: Destiny will probably be the first. I like to finish one game before moving on to another otherwise I forget the controls. That happens when you get older!

It's pretty bad so far! Even with the in-game brightness adjustment I find it too dark. It also has my favorite: unskippable cut scenes. Gotta love those.

The memory cards I bought were cancelled so that was pretty lame but I didn't really need them anyway.

Anyway, The Lord of the Rings: War in the North - (PS3) is on sale for $14 at best buy online. Almost tempted but it sounds like a very glitchy game and hasn't been patched so a lot of times it loses your progress and you have to restart from the beginning. I don't think I'll go for that deal.

Man, I love that LotR game. The graphics are great and the voice work is good too. Everything in the game is designed after the films, so that asthetic is consistant. I haven't had a single bug yet and I'm about 6 hours into it.

If you enjoyed the LotR movies, it's worth it just for the setting IMO. The game takes place the same time as the films. Your characters play a subtle but important role in the events in the movies by basically doing side quests that assist the characters from the movies. It has loot, light rpg elements, and can be played co-op. The 3 characters are tank (dwarf), ranged/theif (human ranger), and mage/healer (elf chick). I like that all the loot is shown on yoir character. You can see them getting more powerful. My rangervlooks kimd of bad ass right now!

The cons are the empty towns that you rarley visit and samey combat and enemies. Boss battles have been pretty fun so far and you can always change to a different character between levels for something different if you want. Also, it's a pretty gorey game, which I enjoy.

It's great in small bursts and it is a game I will finish eventaully because I always seem to go back to it.

Which version? I ended up getting it but haven't gotten around to it yet. From all I read though the PS3 version is pretty glitchy.

Nothing too interesting that I don't already have on the latest BB sale list so I'll probably skip that. Maybe Dirt 3 although I don't know what (Vanilla) means. Guessing that means no DLC included or something.

I played Bodycount at a friends place when it came out... Multiplayer didn't work, controls and AI were rubbish.
He finished the game in less than 5 hours and traded it in the next day.

These sales sure seem to be getting people to buy games. I just bought a batch of Verbatim DVD+R DL discs and I wouldn't waste a $1 blank on most of these games.

I do by full price games I like. Batman Arkham City, Dragon's Dogma and Skyrim, being the last few. (TERA, Secret World and Guild Wars 2 as well for full priced MMOs) Borderlands 2 will be my the next. So, I suppose my supporting the industry is comparable to 18 purchased games for you sales people!

You're friend actually bought Bodycount at release? Why? I bought it for 10$ to play co-op with a friend. You will find that expectations are not as high for a 10$ game vs a 60$ one. Even a half way decent 10$ is kind of a nice surprise.

Mayhem is a fun title! It's like a current gen version of one of my favorite old school PS1 games "Demolition Derby" (which I'm still surprised that it has never seen a modern incarnation). I loved that game back in the day. For a mere 5$ it is totally, absolutely worth it. I would've jumped all over a PSN or XBL title for 5$ that was this exact concept. It's basically an arcade game anyway.

The sale buying is not only just plain fun for me and saves cash, it is also a way to test the waters with games I would normally never buy or even try. For every dud I get, I always come out on top with some real gems.

Here is a sampling of awesome games I've bought basically because they were cheap that I never would've paid anywhere close to full price for. All of these games were 25$ or less when I bought them. May of these I would not have felt cheated buying full price, Day 1:

Vanquish
Binary Domain
Asura's Wrath
Syndicate
Singularity
Fear 2&3
Portal 2
Crackdown 1&2
Just Cause 2
Metro
Bionic Commando
Rhythm Heaven
Splinter Cell Conviction
De Blob
House of the Dead: Overkill
Deus Ex
Resistance 3
Killzone 3
Sly Collection
Rayman Origins
Disgaea 3
3D Dot game Heroes
More than 1/2 of my Wii games
AvP
Darkness 2
Mirror's Edge
The Saboteur
Enslaved
LotR - WotN
Split/Second
Blur
El Shaddai
Deadly Premonition
Nier and all of my other jrps (bought every single one on sale for 20$ or less, some as low as 3-4$)
All the Lego games (except Batman 2 which I bought for 40$ and it was totally worth it IMO!)

The shitty games I bought for dirt cheap that I regret?

Army of Two
007 Quantum of Solace
Mercenaries 2: World in Flames
Unreal Tournament 3
Quake Wars
Viva Pinata
All of my Xbox RTS games besides Halo Wars which is awesome.

The top list dominates the bottom list. It's not even close. As a matter of fact, I think I have a worse track record for buying new or 40$ish games as far as bang for my buck and overall enjoyment, as sad as that is. (Not really. My full priced game list would be similarly lopsided.)

Darksiders 2 tomorrow will be my next full priced game. I have only paid full price for Xenoblade Chronicles and D3 this year.

The three I got (haven't picked up yet) in the latest BB sale were:

Dirt 3 - I wanted a racing game and I was severely let down by MotorStorm Apocalypse recently. I doubt I will 100% that game just because I can't stand the crappy handling. Need for Speed: Most Wanted looks like it could be what I've been waiting for since it's basically a lot like Burnout Paradise. Although that wont be a day one purchase. I have way too much stuff to get though.

Dungeons Siege III - I mainly threw that in since to use my $10 coupon I had to have an order over $10 and since Dirt 3 was 9.99.. Argh. It got fairly middle of the road reviews but I doubt it's that bad.

Dead Rising 2: Off the Record - I really don't like zombie games all that much but it sounded mostly fun. The major knock against it in the reviews was that it was basically the same game as Dead Rising 2 but since I never played that it wasn't a big deal to me. I didn't get it initially with the other two but did another order about 30 minutes later. Maybe I was hoping it would have sold out by then so I could save $10!

Everything else that looked halfway decent (PS3) I already have. I'm sure I'll get $20 worth of entertainment out of them.
