This film was intense, gripping, terrifying, suspenseful, claustrophobic, and especially rewarding.
AMAZING movie. See it in theatres to get the most out of the incredible camerawork.

I wouldn't advise anyone to not watch it because apparently it's one of those movies you love or hate. I just happen to do the latter. I found the movie to be visually appealing but incredibly pointless. It was like talking to a very insecure man who wants me to marvel in the way he's telling the story because he's hoping that I'm not paying attention to what he's actually saying in fear that I'll discover that in reality, he doesn't have much to say. All I'm saying is that "the jig is up, Aranofsky". Additionally, I think he made a mistake with the camera work. It never eases up. About 1/2 of the way through, I was entirely desensitized.Leonaerd wrote:

Having said that, some of the scenes were phenomenally "pretty" (especially the ballet ones) and the acting was definitely good to great (depending on the actor). I just don't get all the hoopla.

Re: Black Swan
I saw it yesterday and I'm still not sure how I feel about it. I feel like it was good, definitely well-made and with great acting, but kind of pointless. I was entertained, but I don't know if I'd recommend it. I enjoyed the build-up, but the payoff left me wanting more.

Re: Black Swan
But how was the lesbian scene?

We got a screener "for our consideration". Still sitting in the case. Doesn't seem like my kind of movie. Based off of the polarity of reviews here, I'm probably right.

The lesbian scene was hot. The masturbation scene was hotter though slightly unrealistic.masteen wrote:But how was the lesbian scene?

I just saw it today, and im very very impressed. Definitely a buyer on blu-ray, and Portman deserved that Oscar.

Release date set for 3/29/11.
Too bad Aronofsky bowed out of Wolverine. I was really, really looking forward to his vision of that character as well his his take on a summer blockbuster.

About 20 minutes in. Reminds me of Showgirls so far, but no nudity--and it is a bit nauseating due to the club-footed dolly grip.
I'll try another 20-30 after I regain my inner-ear functionality.
However, it is bringing forth the realism of ballet, since, well, ballet is fucking boring.

Re: Black Swan
Interesting. I thought the diegeses (offscreen and onscreen sound), art direction, acting amd lighting were very well done. Screenplay was...ok, but more Lynch-lite than super-wierd or thought-provoking. Perhaps if there was a small man in a cowboy hat making threats....
