ntoskrnl file missing - computer won't boot

I admit, I'm not at all technically advanced when it comes to things like this (ie "noob").

I turned on the computer at the house this morning and windows wouldn't load up. I got a message saying that /windows ntoskrnl file was missing.

Couldn't get it to boot into safe mode or to a /prompt either. Any ideas on how to easily fix this? Will using the windows disk that came with the computer reinstall this file?

thanks in advance for the help.

ntoskrnl is the heart of windows. If you have original windows media, you can try booting from that CD and doing an automated repair from that see if that fixes it for you. Failing that you may be forced to rebuild the system.

Worse case scenario with this is that your hard drive has failed.
