I'm just about fed up with Kazaa lite and really want to find this one song i keep getting loops of. So thought I would ask here. Where do you guys DL your music from? (if you do of course.)

Rip what I want off of my CD's, then throw the CD on a stack to collect dust.

Shareaza is good if they fixed the slow download problem they had. Limewire is good, but also one of the 'main' programs that RIAA watches like Kazza from what I've heard. WinMX is good also. Usenet is good if you don't have something specific that you're looking for. I've never been able to have success with finding songs on the web though.

Thanks for the suggestion. It's the only thing I use now.

DC++ is nice

http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/

I prefer that client for Direct Connect.

The only problem with DC is the fucking swedes won't let me on their servers!

DC has been great for grabbing Anime series. I found a few nice servers packed full of anime. I don't know of a good mp3 or warez srver though. It'd be nice to be able to grab an app I need relatively quickly if I can't find it on the newsgroups.

I try to keep my share directory over 40gb to open up more servers. It's all anime mostly and movies.

on a few reccomendations i checked out DC and cant say i liked it, the hub idea i didnt like much as just saying that a hub is into mp3s is VERY vauge, given the range that could cover

i can only share 15g as thats all i have to share(i only have a 40g and a 20g drive), so the limits while nice screw OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of people

i just dont see whats so wrong with an open p2p that everyone shares everything they have with everyone, no secret clubs or hidden files involved

also i was on DC for about 5 hours the other night, found nothing i wanted to DL, and got a warning for having incomplete kazaa files on there
so my thoughts on it are pretty low atm!

i persoanlly swear by soulseek for music, and have been using kazaa lite for everything else(movies/apps/porn), i would like to replice kazaa, but i dont think anything will replace soulseek

I agree it's not that great. It seems to be more popular in europe, especially in sweden. I use it to find specific episodes of anime.

Ditch it as a primary source unless someone comes through with a good appz server!

most music hubs on DC are niched to a particular brand of music.. so you generally need to do a bit of searching.. i hang around in a hub named PsySide myself, wich is basicly a registerd user only hub.. with pretty strict rules on how and what to share.. for example.. you need to have every album organized by year.. and sfv files for each one.. along with nfo.. and original naming of the albums and mp3's.. otherwise you get the boot :)

There are dozens of servers around dedicated to a particular type of music or warez.. but most of them are going reg only these days with the big p2p crackdown scare..

But well, if your looking for something particular and it aint on DC.. it's not gonna be anywhere else on the net either.. it's _that_ big

As for the client choice.. i use oDC myself ( http://gempond.com/odc/ )

( And generally if you want the 0-day stuff and the absolutely newest games and movies. DC is the place to get it.. unless you have release group dump access ofcourse )

And the problem with kazaa and the likes are the ability to share nothing at all. with no reprocussins for it.. when you set it up like that.. the majority of people isnt gonna share shit..

yeah i agree, my mom is that way, and its lame way to 'share'

how do you get into registered hubs?

my main problem wiht the mp3s is tha ti have a way diverse collection of mp3s (from paula abdul to stockhausen), so a niche room isnt gonna cut it for me

let me ask you something, when you get into a hub, and do a general search, does it only search in that hub?
so like that i at least know what hub i want to get into

the sfv shit is cool, as i hate DLing mp3s with fucked up info

A search is usually over all the hubs you joined.. unless you defined it otherwise.. and to get into the reg only hubs.. you usually have to know an SU or the owner, or having been a hub user that asked for reg status before they went reg only.. some hubs have smaller hubs open where people can join and ask for reg status too..

And yeah.. the SFV shit is cool :).. oDC has built in SFV checking, so if any file is corrupted it redownloads.. preferably from a diffrent source.. hence why i almost exclusively download rared stuff..

Good thing about DC and rared stuff is that you can download one game from several people at once.. since you can add/search for extra sources for every file you download.

I disagree about the zero-day comment. That's where the newsgroups shine. If I need a movie, ps2, x-box, pc, music, just released, it's going to be on the newsgroups.

DC is great for finding the older stuff that isn't always on the newsgroups. DC also has the new apps, etc as well but I can grab them so fast off the newsgroups and with so little hassle there's no reason to use DC for it as the newsgroups are also giving me a gig an hour transfer rate compared to the peer to peer limitations of DC.

I'll check out your DC client suggestion though. I'm after a DVD player called Theatertek. I need it to be able to use the fddshow filter which improves the quality of the DVD image when output to my 1280X720 projector. Theatertek doesn't offer a shareware release so it's a bitch to get compared to most of the other apps out there.

i searched all over soulseek's site and i still cant find how they promise you wont get sued. That is the only thing keeping me from using the service

I've seen just about every single PS2 game posted to the usenet within a day of it's release.

check the zero-day binary group for the latest PC apps and cracks.

any of the alt.binaries.image groups will have the latest PC games and the alt.binary.dvd or divx groups will have the new to theater releases or new to DVD releases.

You aren't hanging out in the right newsgroups : )

Your DC still wil be much slower than usenet. THere's no chance in hell I'll get 1gb an hour off DC. I don't know about you but I wouldn't try to get a 4gb PS2 or new DVD image off DC.

edit: I did just find Zoomplayer 3.31 professional and Sonic Cinemaster DVD Filter pack using DC++. It took forever to get a few measily 1mb files but at least I got them. Pokey but a good source.

Actually.. with a decent 10 mb connection you can usally go from about 800 kb/s to 1 mb/s against other 10 mbit or 100 mbit users on dc.. sure.. speeds fluctuate a lot during downloads.. but generally a 1 gig+ movie take about 20 minutes or so to download for me.. same goes with most game isos etc etc..

Lies!

Well we all can't live in Sweden. I'm surprised at those transfer rates. Most people cant upload at those speeds. What ISP do you have that allows those upload rates?

Those ISPs are Swedish!

They are Bredbandsbolaget[BBB], Bostream or Sunet.

Also noticed that some czechs have amazing ISPs

My friend lets me use his somethingaweful account to dl music. Can find pretty much any music I want plus any files, video, docs, whatever. Think you can get a membership for a one time fee of $10 and they use DC++ to share everything.

What does Drolgin have to say about this!

I want one of those speedy ISPs! How hard is it to immigrate to Sweden? :)

I'm wondering if I could buy a Sweedish ISP account, use remote access software to use DC via my Sweedish account and then transfer the files to my US account at high speeds. Must have fast transfers!
