Can anyone recommend a good keylogger software?

Not me, but Py did find one on one of the laptops we took to FF.

While I don't know of any software keyloggers offhand, here's a hardware keylogger (!!!) that uses no software, is OS independent and does not need external power...

Most keyloggers are worthless by themselves. You will need a good root kit to hide it. Will this be delivered to a machine you have access to? If you have access to the machine then you can easily install a nearly undetectable root kit with a key logger as a bonus.

I am not a hacker but I work for a university that gets hack attempts A LOT so I have slowly learned the techniques for protecting my servers. Or at least learn how to look for attempts.

It's not for me, it's for my best friend's little brother who's wife announced that she wants a divorce. Apparently it's suspected that she's been less than faithful, and he's interested in some proof. I don't want to hack anything, just to get some information. I've found some relatively inexpensive software packages online, so it's not a huge deal. Thanks.

i know there's keylogger hardware that you can plug in between the keyboard and the tower. it's really easy to use but i don't know how easy it is to detect.

You should check on the legality of that, just in case.

He's actually going to check on it with a divorce lawyer which he's in the process of acquiring. To my knowledge, you can install any software you want on your own PC. As far as what is or isn't admissable as evidence in a court case... that's another story. It sounds more to me like he just wants to know for sure more than anything else...

Many states have a "no-fault" divorce option now, and if his state is one of them, whether or not she's having an affair is largely irrelevant. The only thing that may have bearing is if she's spending joint funds or assets on her boyfriend. This can be factored into any eventual settlement.

Regardless, it can be extremely cathartic to know if she is or isn't.

look for the FOSI site. I think it is http://kickto/FOSI or something like that. They had a lot of good software including a full version of a keylogger.

I know WI is a no fault state. It definitely varies state to state. If your state isn't a no fault state then I would tell the guy to hire a private investigator. Some judges are still wary about computer based evidence but a picture speaks a thousand words.

And for the record, the whole "no fault" shit just sucks. If I ever get married again I'm going to make sure we live in a state that will place blame where it's due.

Two things to note..

A. Be VERY careful which keylogger software you install. There are a lot that do more than just log keystrokes for YOU.

B. Most virus software will detect keylogger software as a threat to the PC and pop up alarms all over the place during and after installation. If the computer has antivirus software on it, you're not going to be able to hide it very well, if you can get it installed at all.

Look for a company selling or offering keylogging software for parents to mnitor their children. You're likely safer that way instead of a company that advertises hacking into someone else's computer.

Yes Siji that is true but there are rootkits that can hide the keylogger form the virus programs.
