Chinese gamers have been eager to access EverQuest, the world's most popular MMO game for a long time. Being huge fans of fantasy role-playing games, they will finally be able to immerse themselves in one of the most detailed 3D worlds ever created
At the beginning of 2003, Chinese MMO gamers will join the more than 430,000 players already subscribed around the world to EverQuest and its top-selling expansions The Ruins of Kunark™, The Scars of Velious™ and The Shadows of Luclin™. The latest expansion to the critically acclaimed EverQuest series, EverQuest: The Plains of Power™ launches in the U.S. on October 21, 2002.
Are you ready for it?
I just hope that they have their own server!

Ferine: Well who *is* on our side?
Toshira: Six hundred million screamin' Chinamen.
Dakamura: I thought there was a billion screamin' Chinamen.
[Toshira throws whisky into fire, and it violently ignites for a moment.]
Toshira: There was before Thess trained them with her Eye of Zomm.

I forget if it was A Whitney Brown or Dennis Miller who said it (late 80s Weekend Update), but it is my favorite line about the Chinese (paraphrasing):
China is a place where you can be one in million ... and have a thousand others just like you.

lol OG : )
hmmm, I wonder if The Tubes changed the lyrics to their song, "She's a Beauty" for export to China.
Step right up and don't be shy,
because you will not believe your eyes.
She's right here behind the glass
and you're gonna like her,
'cause she's got class.
You can look inside another world.
You get to talk to a pretty girl.
She's everything you dream about...
but don't fall in love...
She's a beauty ---
one in a billion girls,
she's a beauty.
Why would I lie.

Looking at rulings of the Chinese government concerning net access, I find it most likely they will have their own server, after all we might do google searches for them and email the results ( yeah I know they have now unblocked google but still) then consider in the fact that a place like EQ without complete packet sniffing(by the government) would be a an excellent ground for those unhappy with the Chinese government to meet, and I figure that when it does happen, Sony will be providing all logs to the Chinese government.

A couple of Asia servers wouldnt be bad for veeshan, or a couple of euroservers

Or maybe they will just extend the packet sniffing to the entirity of all the EQ servers. Because you know they might want to transfer over or play on the Legends server or hell just start a war on Veeshan. I think it is good news for the company but bad news for the players and anyone who has internet access through the same company as verant.

IF...EQ ever is actually implemented in China, there is no way it will last long without the Chinese government banning it. Once it is realized that EQ is not just a game but is also a form of communication between people from all over the world,I doubt the government will let it exist in China for very long. You cant control an entire population of 1 billion people without being "detail" oriented, the main detail is to be able to control the flow of information to and from its citizens. EQ would pose a threat to this simple formula, and would not last for long in China because of this in my opinion.

SOE will bring its already-acquired technological expertise to the partnership while Ubi Soft's online arm, ubi.com, will provide the necessary local infrastructures to host and operate the game.
I take this to mean they get their own servers.

Why is everyone making fun of China? China has provided us with many excellent things.
- Combo #5
Szechuan Chicken
Sweet and Sour Chicken
Pokemon
Jackie Chan and Jet Li movies
I almost forgot General Tso's Chicken. Who IS General Tso anyways? I've never heard of him.
