Need to know a good lawyer..

Odd request, I know.
I need to know if anyone knows of any resources available for locating a good medical malpractice lawyer.
The reason I'm asking here is because partly of where I live - WV, not exactly a haven for exceptional lawyers and the like - and that I've never had to seriously sue or threaten to sue someone. I expect to have to do one of the two sometime this week and I want to be prepared with at least a name/phone number to toss around.
I've got family in the hospital, and it's starting to look like her asshat doctor is doing more harm than good, and, well, I need a blunt object to get my point across. ><

and you don't even care enough to put what state you live in, even though most litigators are only liscensed by the bar to practice law in their own state? would a really great malpractice attorney from say, hawaii be acceptable?!

As unfortunate as it is to the rest of the nation, yes, WV actually
is a state.

WV, which could be easily confused with VV. You could say he lives here but West Virginia is related to the acronym of WV

No, there are lawyers.
However, being WV, our overall quality of lawyers (and damn near everything else) tends to be in the bottom 50th percentile of their class. The upper 50% tend to move out of the state to places that they can get paid more at.
Hence the reason for this post:
I need some sort of resource or knowledgebase or somthing that will help identify the ones that actually have a clue and a good track record and those that don't..

pretend to slip on some ice outside wal-mart and hire the litigator that wins resulting fist fight to represent you.

usually a relatively safe avenue for lawyer referals is the local bar association - try calling them - often they even have a program for referrals and sometimes even for a cheap or free first consult
if there is no city/county bar - try the state bar
you can use martindale hubbel to look up lawyers but that is rather hit or miss imo
finding someone with a same or similar problem and asking who they used is often a not bad way either - people are usually happy to volunteer is someone is an ass or helped them out

Just call them up and see what type of law they practice and then ask them for their win : loss ratio.
