long rant about nothing EQ related!

I have to get my frustrations out... so don't mind the long ass rant.
I used to like my job. I used to LOVE my job. Now I hate it. I work like 70 hours a week, on base salary, no overtime, barely any bonuses cause this economy just sucks. I'm a recruiter for a supplemental staffing firm, and I'm just so sick of the lazy fucks out there that can't even get their asses off of the couch to interview for actual jobs orders i've got sitting on my desk. I schedule anywhere from 50-60 interviews a week. I've actually figured out that 74% of them are NO SHOWS. GOD that is SO fucking frustrating!! My time is limited enough between the client visits, employee counseling, marketing gigs, seminars, interviews, etc, and when I get a no show, it really screws my schedule around.
Are people really that lazy that they can't even give a courtesy call to their potential employer to reschedule or give SOME kind of excuse?? Do people really blow off jobs like that now, and think that jobs are being handed out like candy in the market today?? It's hard enough trying to filter through almost 100 or more resumes a day, feeling bad because I can't find all these people jobs... then scheduling them to interview with me and then have them no show...
Besides all that shit, I've got people coming to interview with me in jeans and ripped t-shirts, gum snapping in my face, one last week came in with a bikini top on! What am I, a recruiter for a damn strip club? I've had people burp in my face, make raspberry noises all during the interview, eat food, actually ADMIT that they're a procrastinator and only looking for a job because unemployment ran out (that was my favorite, i had a blast showing him to the door)...
Are people really that stupid now a days to let an opportunity slip through their fingers like that? I wouldn't be picky in today's market, it's hard enough out there as it is without acting like a fucking screwup with a potential employer.

ok sorry, had to do that. I've already taken my frustrations out on my easel today. Looks like a Picasso. I should scan it or take a picture of it and post it online, show people how fucking nuts i'm going.

My wife go's through EXACTLY the same thing, she actually hires people and they either don't show up or they show up for a few days and stop comming in, no call saying they quit....when she calls asking whats up, they say either "I found a new job" or "oh, I didn't like that job, can you fire me so i get unemployment?"
Your not alone

Yes people are really that stupid.
Yes people are really that lazy.
Yes people are really that inconsiderate.
It's hard to strive for that positive outlook and attitude when the majority of the people you meet day to day make you want to headbutt them.

Holy crap!
Coati used profanity!!!!!
Coati, I told you, just say no. Your employer won't like it at first, but you are gonna go down in flames if you don't start using that word.

Not showing up for a scheduled interview? /boggle.
If you've landed a different job, good for you, but have the courtesy to call and cancel (and more than 10 mins before you're supposed to be there, please).
What's really pissing me off these days are employers advertising positions and soliciting resumes and applications, then not even bothering to reply to the people who put in time and effort and showed an interest.
Of the 50-odd job applications I've sent out this year, I've gotten replies from maybe 20%. One thing is that my resume writing skills may suck, but they should at least have the fucking decency to mail, email or phone me to say "You suck" or "The position is filled by some 38DD blonde".

Damn. If you have any jobs open in Florida let me know. Its a pain in the ass here. You apply, call them back and stuff. Yet they just either A)Dont have room to hire, or B) Just dont follow up,and by the time they do they dont have the spot open anymore, or C) You have 95% of the skills they require, yet since you dont have all of them Its no thanks dont need you.
It sucks ass in Florida. Ask Mr Truant. Ive lived in Florida for 20 years, and its never been this bad before. I need to find some women so I can pimp them or something.

Posting so Aranuil can see Liz.
J/K!!
Company I work for doesn't hire often but for some reason we get quite a few resumes monthly. As all unsolicited mail they're landing in the thrash can. I do read them all but I always assumed those people send their resumes to eveybody and their mother. Why else would they send one to us without even knowing what exactly we do and if we need them?

I noticed at the local job fair in town this year, much more people were wearing suits again.
There was a time where they'd all walk in in flip flops.
Ah the dot com days...

Coatli, what kind of jobs do you offer?
Just a question.
Also, my favorite way to calm down: sit down with someone you like to spend time with, grab a few beers, and watch a good movie. Makes everything seem so simple again.

yea goes both ways, can send out a million resumes, do follow up calls, be qualified, and you get the ol your resume is on file bit(which means sucker! lol). Another thing is some places take frigging 3 months to hire, who can hold out that long for a job, if your working or not?
anyways coatie just curious what your line of hiring is? bubble gum and bikini tops hehe that was funny..

our "Core" recruiting is in Data Entry, Reception, Clerical, Cust. Serv, etc... But i also have about 15 direct hire orders for professional positions... Mortgage/Loan specialists (i.e. Risk Management, Underwriters, Funding managers, Compliance auditors), Personal Bankers, Accountants, Estate Lawyer, Criminal Justice lawyer, etc. IT if it comes my way, but there are a crapload of IT recruiters out there so it barely comes around this way. Hey, if I have to wear business professional everyday, I expect my applicants to come in at LEAST business casual to business professional. People don't even bring resumes anymore. People expect me to make their resumes for them. I tell them that I charge for resume building services because that is not my job.
Wow, i need to learn to write in paragraphs
Drolgin, I miss your voice too! I have Battlecom still, but no one uses it anymore. I'd love to talk with you on that again
Last night, I went home early. Actually left work about 5:30 which is indeed early. Cracked open a Smirnoff Ice, ate some dinner, and played PS2 with my fiance all night. Was relaxing!

"The position is filled by some 38DD blonde"
To which you ask if you can apply for a bra position..
Raist - the Florida job situation right now is fubar no doubt. I've personally been lucky thus far in not being laid off but friends have. I've already accepted the fact that if I were to get laid off, there'd be no chance for me to get another technology based job making anywhere near what I am now. I've pretty much decided that bartending sounds rather good. People will always need booze. Even in a depression.
But seriously, it's a bad time right now. Businesses don't have any need to show any courtesy to applicants because they've got such a large pool of them to choose from now. What might have cost them $70k before they'd offer $30k these days. When Cisco lays off mass CCIE's, you know the market is gonna be flooded..

The Welfare Generation. People would rather be lazy and collect from social services rather than get a job. It doesn't matter where you live either. I lived in GA for a while and noticed people having more and more children because it increases their welfare check (a practice which no longer works here in Wisconsin).
To be fair though, it is tough to actually want to get a job because you can't support a family on minimum wage. Hell, I can't see how anyone can support a family on $10 an hour. Those are the sad cases but there are some cases I know of for a fact where EQ is the culprit.
I know a certain peron who would stay on EQ until the wee hours of the morning and then crawl out of bed and crawl to the computer first thing upon waking up. It is to the point where they get excited about not having to pick up the child during established visiting weekend or week so that they can play EQ. It is a sad thing that people would rather play EQ than try and support themselves and their child.
(I kept that as vague as possible so no names will be mentioned unless refuted)

for each resume that I receive, whether it be through email, fax, or mail, I always send a quick reply to let them know I received it. I always skim through each resume and I note on there with a yellow Post-It(tm) why I won't interview them or or a pink one if I will. If it's a yellow Post-It(tm), I always tell them:
1) Why I will not interview them (i.e. not enough experience, too big a gap in work history, no need for their skills atm, etc)
2) That I have filed their resume (which I do), and will keep them in mind for future positions
3) My contact info again, with my business card (if snail mail)
4) Thank you for applying
If it's a pink Post-It(tm), then I always call and talk to them on the phone, or if no answer, I email, if it's provided.
I have a huge long filing cabinet where I separate resumes by industry experience, and I put them in there. A separate drawer for Yellows, and a separate ones for Pink. Thank god I have a secretary that comes in 2x's a week to help me with this. Each month, I have her pull out the ones that are 6 months or older and purge them. It's a great system we have going, and I can always go back to those resumes and call folks if all my recruiting efforts are drained and I cannot find anyone in my own database of candidates.
I feel like a robot most of the time, but it gets the job done, and I usually talk to most applicants at least once or twice. I'm always honest with them and tell them why they're not being hired/interviewed/screened etc, so that way they're not wasting their time, and I'm not wasting mine.

in today's job market people often simply cant reply to all the people that apply to jobs.
some positiions get hundreds if not thousands of resume submissions. Meanwhile the hiring manager is already short staffed because of budget constraints, not to mention the fact that there is an unfilled position. yes i get pissed if i dont hear anything from somebody who i am trying to get a job from, but it happens to a lot of people all of the time nowadays.

aye, it's virtually impossible to reply to almost every single applicant out there, but thank god for Form letters
My assistant really pumps those letters out, in fact, it's one of the main reasons I've hired her.
Here's a typical coatie week, in fact, this is this week's schedule.
This is just a screenie of my calendar in outlook. Fun eh?[/img]
