I was scammed by this character the other day. He shouts that he buys/sells pps on PayPal. He told me he would help me Xfer pps across servers. He is a scammer and a liar. Do not trust anyone you see selling pps like this. Luckily, I did not trust him with very much money. However, if you are trying to buy something from him for real money, or trusting him in any way, you are in danger of being scammed. I logged the conversation, where he said he sold pps on ebay and other places, I will be sending this information to friends at Sony >< Although, they might not be able to help with the scam itself, I do know they look down on confessed Ebayers. Just a warning, take care =D

Honestly two things you should consider:

1. The fact that you participated in something against regulation, incriminates you. Its like going to the police because someone sold you baking soda instead of cocaine

2. Its likely that he never sold anything on ebay or anywhere else if he's scamming people, so I wouldnt call him a "confessed ebayer"

I'll keep my other comments to myself to prevent adding insult to injury.

If you paid with PayPal you can file and get your money back easy - the protections are ALL on the buyers side wth PayPal and given you never received any tangible item....they don't protect sellers from a reversal on anything "intangible" - don't ask me how I know this....but you will have little trouble reversing.

You always run this risk when dealing with a person selling plat or items via any RL cash exchange. Perhaps you won't be like every other moron and throw a huge fit about getting ripped off because you engaged in something that most everyone, at least on VV, considers to be an immature and baseless act. Selling and Buying of plat is reprehensible and does nothing to improve your character because not only are you in gear that you could never have attained on your own, you are not becoming a better player for having gotten it. You're still just a crappy twink, but to a higher order of twink.

If you really _are_ that good of a player, join a guild that can get you the gear you want and you can be challenged in the game to the point where you do become more competant at your class.

No, I think you might have misunderstood. I wasn't buying anything via PayPal. I was trying to transfer platinum by giving him pp on one server for him giving me pp on another server, nothing against rules. In fact, I have talked to a GM about this, and /reported him. It has been escalated and is in the process of being fixed. The GM indicated that since response was quick, the situation will probably easily be reversed, and there will be measures taken to punish this individual.

I tried to clearly seperate the issue of ebay/pay pal pps from the situation I was involved in. I only lost some pps.. which I have already made back. I was warning for those who would engage him in one of his real money scams, that's all.

btw, FYI I am a time flagged enchanter with full elemental gear and some time drop gear, I know how to play my class and how to earn my loot. What prompted this was the fact that I have been waiting on Sony for over three weeks to do a character transfer, and have not recieved either a positive or negative reply from them regarding the matter. Therefor, out of frustration, I took my risk with a scammer, because I got tired of waiting on SoE to do something that I had paid them for, and saw no signs of happening. I was trying to do this in order to buy my friend, a cleric, some gear, to help her increase her mana pool, to benefit her guild on raids.

I am not coming here asking for sympathy, because I never gave more pps than I could stand to lose, no biggie. I simply came here to warn others.

I didn't say it was hard. In fact, that's one of the biggest problems with it. There's 0 challenge anymore. However, it's abundantly clear when the people you are grouped with are competant versus competantly twinked.

Why not have your friend play on your server then? If they can be twinked with buyable gear still and you play a chanter, you can personally PL a cleric to 60+ in a matter of days.

Thanks for the heads up tho.. I'm sure someone had an alt named that up until a few days ago.

That's preposterous. Having a full-time job and a penchant for not sitting in front of my 40 hours a week, virtually all of my EQ time is devoted to raiding. Perhaps my guild does things differently than others, but I don't make a dime from raiding. I do get a lot of nice, no-drop gear, but that does little to make me any money. If I want to improve tradeskills, which is the biggest plat- and time-sink I've encountered in the game, I can either farm the stuff I need (which I don't have time to do) or I can spend plat (which I don' thave the time to make) on it.

If I actually felt the need for some pp, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. The time it would take to farm 100k worth of items would be on the order of 3-5x more than the time it would take me to buy 100k plat. The actual times involved in farming those items is just an assumption, but I think it holds true.

Too bad they don't offer Aid Grimmel earrings. I think thats about the only thing I'd ever consider buying because of the numerous other advantages to having somebody do that quest for you. F tradeskills with cacti. (Hey at least they got the new UI tho)

I thought we were kind of passed the stage in this game where a player can buy plat or something instead of fucking farming it without gimps like you squealing and lighting their hair on fire. Do you know how much my time is worth? A lot more than platinum is in Everquest that's for fucking sure. I've never bought plat for money in my life, but like Sylvus, I would in a heartbeat if I had to do it instead of fucking farming it.
