I've found some interesting music lately, and I'm interested in what you guys might think of it... its kinda alternative, and if you have heard (or recently got by whatever means after reading this), do you have any other suggestions in what I should downlo--- i mean get.
here are some of the song titles i've really liked:
Toadies - Tyler
Interpol - PDA
Interpol - Obstacle 1
Elliott Smith - Miss Misery
Doves - There Goes the Fear
Doves - Sea Song
Steve Burns - Mighty Little Man
The Walkmen - The Rat
Gomez - Shot Shot
...and you will know us by the trail of dead - Baudelaire
...and you will know us by the trail of dead - How Near How Far
...and you will know us by the trail of dead - Heart In The Hand of the Matter
...and you will know us by the trail of dead - Another Morning Stoner
...and you will know us by the trail of dead - Relative Ways
Air - New Star in the Sky
Dismemberment Plan - If I Don't
Grandaddy - Now It's On
Space - Female of the Species
Turbonegro - The Age of Pamparius
Its pretty alternative, so tell me what you guys think...

Air is pretty cool, imo. They did the soundtrack to The Virgin Suicides which I think really made the film. I have New Star in the Sky and most of their music is like that if you are interested.
If you are looking to try out new non-mainstream music might I suggest a few artists? Just some names to look out for (not all are contemporary, but all are at least 90's on):
Beulah, Broadcast, Flaming Lips, High Llamas, Neutral Milk Hotel, Solex, Yo La Tengo.
And, Cibo Matto is fun stuff if you get into silly chick pop. Honestly, I've never met anyone who doesnt like them. "Know your Chicken" is an essential for any MP3 library. I'll send it to you if you are interested.

If you like the Walkmen, check out Jonathan Fire*Eater, you won't be disappointed. It was the band most of them were in before the Walkmen, and it sadly imploded. But they were every bit as good, if not better. Their stage presence had to be seen to be believed.
Air is brilliant, as is Yo La Tengo (as was mentioned)...
Check out the Pulsars, if you can find them...
If you like Trail of Dead, you may like Unwound...
Also - did you guys know that Cibo Matto's song, "Know Your Chicken" is about lesbian sex?
I might suggest Momus, too, if you like silly and intelligent songs with slightly more than a tad of perversion thrown in for good measure...

Any and all Elliot Smith is essential.
and the Toadies only ever made one album, they never could get their second one going.

What?? I just thought it was about chicken, consider a large percentage of their songs are about/named after food (Artichoke, Beef Jerky, etc)
Then again, I never listen to the lyrics...
Ok I just read the lyrics...yes, lesbianism is definitely implied. Learn something everyday!

The other thing to keep in mind here, is that "chicken" is Japanese slang for female genitalia. It's true. "Spare the rod and spoil your chick" takes on a *whole* new meaning in this light...

Yea, I'm definitely going to have to give it a listen when I get home. Totally missed that.
