How about a "retired.. don't give a shit about either game" option?

How about an, "I have a life that doesn't revolve around the release of what I guarantee will be the newest in a long line of shitty MMOGs" option?

If WoW is everything it is building itself up to be then EQ is history.. I barely play anymore as it is at the moment.

I don't play EQ anymore, but I'll probably try WoW out. And I'll probably try EQ2 out too. Whichever holds my interest more (if either hold it at all) I'll continue to play, casually though. Fucking-A, between work, school, and this textual cesspool of ignorance and frivolity, I won't have much play time.
Would be kind of nice to run around with Veeshan folks in a new environment from time to time though.

i'll be playing EQ when WoW comes out. i still enjoy playing EQ. i have no reason to stop playing it nor try something else.
until EQ stops entertaining me, i will continue to play EQ.

EQII most likely. Hell, I'm so in love with EQ again right now I might just stay until I qualify for Soverign (three years from now)

i've never seen a blizzard game that held a candle to EQ. to me blizzard games are generally geared towards a much lower age demographic.
one of the best 2 weeks ever on Veeshan was the 2 weeks following the release of Diablo 2.
every tard on the server just about disappeared. it was nice

True.
The battle.net kiddies could be the biggest problem WoW has. So far, it looks like Blizzard has done a good job ignoring them, but we'll see how bata goes.

I'm not playing EQ now, so I certainly won't be playing it when WoW comes out. I will be playing WoW though.
How many times has this kind of poll (EQ vs WoW) been posted now?

WoW is so overhyped.
I'd like to see a massive online Pong game. Everyone would be a paddle. Paddles of Fire would be the first guild to conquer the Super Breakout Zone!
Dropped:
Paddle Glue +10
Can hold onto the ball with your paddle for an extra 10 seconds.
Super Bouncer 20%
Increase speed of ball.

but can your paddle sit down in a chair? I think not.

many of us who played EQ have that opinion because we regret wasting so much time on it. It's not hypocrisy, it's acquired wisdom.

I sure did. I've played most every MMOG out there except for AC. The last two I played were SWG and FFOL, and I am of the opinion that there's never going to be an MMOG I enjoy as much as I did when I was initially playing EQ. None of them have been able to retain my attention. I think the biggest determining factor in the fact that I no longer enjoy MMOGs is that I have an extremely competitive nature, but at the end of the day, the time investment required to excel in an MMOG doesn't make enough of a positive impact on my actual life. Given that I have found other ways to invest that time that I find enjoyable, and that I feel are productive, I believe I've found some positive replacements for MMOGs in my life.
I think it's wonderful that other people play EQ or other MMOGs, and derive a sense of enjoyment from that time. I hope that for them it continues for as long as possible.
If the reviews for either EQ2 or WoW are STELLAR, I will most likely pick them up to play them, at least on a temporary basis. However, I strongly believe that both games are going to suck, be largely unfinished, and have tremendous class-balance issues. It's the nature of the beast. As much as that's my opinion, I'd like nothing more than for a development staff to prove me wrong.

WoW is a game that according to some people will give you an instant orgasm just by touching the CD!
For some people you can even use the CD hole as a fuck toy when simply touching will no longer please you. Sadly... Some people fit.
Also it's supposed to be a MMORPG that will surpass Chip and Dale Rescure Rangers MMORPG.

I don't know why some individuals think they're better off by putting down others in this thread by answering along the lines of, "I'm not playing either because MMOs are the bane of existence." The poll had two answers: EQ or WoW. If you're answer doesn't fit into either of these two categories, don't answer. Start your own poll if you wish to bitch about people who still play or may be moving to WoW. Don't hijack a thread with a legitimate purpose for your own post count.

Yes, my motivations for saying I wasn't excited about either was to up my post count.
Clearly you didn't read the portion of my post where I clearly stated:
I think it's wonderful that other people play EQ or other MMOGs, and derive a sense of enjoyment from that time. I hope that for them it continues for as long as possible.
I responded honestly, and reflected an alternate viewpoint that is unexpressable on this poll in it's present form. It would appear that I am not the only one that feels this way. My posts in this thread have all been completely on topic. I responded to the question that was asked by the poll. It's not the fault of myself or others that the individual who created the poll couldn't take the time to put in the very viable third option of, "Until the games comes out, I don't give a fuck."
Posted: February 24, 2004, 9:34 pm
by Dregor Thule
If you aren't playing EQ, then "No" is actually a viable option with how it is worded.
Posted: February 24, 2004, 9:42 pm

I'm not trying to be pedantic here but... It would appear that a vote of 'no' with the poll in its present form would indicate that I'm planning on playing WoW, which is not the case.

Yeah, im in the same shit, if i have any time at all though, it would be more likely that i'll be on WoW...considering i'd be closer in game progress to my RL friends who are ele/time now...

I can't say for sure. I have been without EQ for about 10 days now due to home network issues and I am jonesing. I had gone in phases like many...I

EQ, EQ sucks ass, etc... but I have been enjoying the game once I got back from a few months of not playing.
That being said, although WoW looks slick as shit and some friends will be making the move over, I will probably play both until my interest dies in one or the other.... I imagine playing both will last a few days as a 4 hour eq session is rather draining these days on my eyes and back.

WOW will hit just as large a subcriber base as eq but much faster. FFXI just recently hit 1,000,000. That is multi-platform though. As to wether or not it will be an "EQ killer" remains to be seen, not that it really matters since I'll be playing it no matter what. EQII just promises to be a heeping pile of dogshit imo.

Does that 1,000,000 include the 2 days I played it? That's all it took for me to find my japanese bride. I'm flying her to the states and we're being married in EverQuest next month!
Our kids will be raised with EverQuestarian influences but will be free to choose any online game. I'm kicking them out on the street if it turns out to be something from Blizzard though!

I seriously doubt WoW will be an EQ killer. I might stay on with EQ, but I definately going to see WoW, been a big Warcraft fan for a good few years.
Someone mentioned about all the Battle.net kiddies, and how their migration from EQ is/was good. I'd probably agree with this, but how badly do you think it will effect WoW.
I dont want to go to a game I've been waiting ages for to have a bunch of 12-year old homophobes spoil it for me.

As long as the Diablo fucktards stay on that WoW will be fine. From watching a friend play it, I can see that Diablo 2 has become a magnet for retards and AOLers...

And I still find time for eating, working, sleeping, training between 2 and 6 hours a day (depending on the day), and banging supermodels. Amazing isn't it? (only one of those is a lie!)

I'm still having fun in EQ, as well as hating it, but then again I always have. Not ready to leave it yet for any game.

I dunno, quite a few of the random people I met in Everquest were about as retarded as any b.net poster IMO, and it might be easier to avoid them with instancing. Motherfuckin BONUS if certain retards that I am actually ACQUAINTED with from EQ decide not to play. I plan on playing WoW and giving it as much of a chance as I'd give any other game, but I seriously doubt I will play for 3+ years like I did before.

The last supposed EQ killer was going to be SWG, and at the time, I felt a lot of enthusiasm for the game, only to find out it is a steaming pile of elephant shit. I just don't think there will be an EQ killer, except maybe EQ2. But I feel the same way about SOE as Winnow does about blizzard and I highly doubt I will ever play another one of their games.
As for WoW, I am playing it for sure. I am a bit excited about the game but I'm trying not to get my hopes up after the SWG fiasco and let down. I do like blizzard though, I have enjoyed the entire war craft series as well as starcraft, but I hated Diablo.
I think most MMORPGs demand a certain level of integrity from their players simply because reputation is an important factor of success in these games. Those who constantly act immature, exploit, or steal will quickly be identified by the player community and will more than likely never be able to participate in the end game, regardless of their age. For this reason I am not overly concerned about the same type of behavior I've seen in diablo.

I will buy both EQ2 and WoW and play the one that is better and has more of my friends in it. Both games have a lot of pros and cons and I'm not sure which will be more compelling.
Blizzard has yet to make a game that I've truly fallen in love with, and it seems that SOE has lost quite a large portion of their designers that made EQ such a great game originally. Maybe their best guys are working on EQ2 while the EQLive and expansion designer guys are just a bunch of unoriginal hacks who think that doubling stats on gear and the damage the NPCs do is somehow making the game fresh and challenging. I doubt it though, since SOE has a reputation of paying designers below industry standard.
WoW seems to rely on a lot of instanced dungeons combined with a focus on high level raiding content, which sounds like a disasterous combination to me for just about everyone playing who doesn't cross over with their guild from EQ. Having to share a dungeon with 60 other people is a big part of what made EQ into the massive social experiment it turned into. EQ's roots were planted, I think, in the old days when everyone was packed into a few popular zones and were forced to cooperate. If most of the content takes place away from everyone else then a lot of people will never really meet anyone.
edit: wow I left out a lot of words

I think and hope blizzard is smart enough to realize this and they try to balance the content thusly.

Well after taking a break from EQ and them coming back, I feel as though I am finally spent with that game. I gave one of my accounts to a guildie and cancelled the other. Im going to give WoW and EQ2 a try. But Ill most likely never be able to devote the time I had for EQ to either of the newer counterparts. EQ to me really started to suck as soon as we stepped foot on the moon and started to kill aliens. The only thing that kept me playing through most of Luclin and some of PoP was you dirty fockers. WoW may have a bunch of Bnet kids but EQ had its fair share of wankers too.
Like Kyou said, ill choose the one game I feel suites me best and has most of my old buddies on it. But I just can't play EQ anymore. Its mind numbingly boring, the content and storyline really are poor and it requires far too much time to feel like you have accomplished anything.
I trust that these next generation MMO's have learned lessons from the vast influx of clusterfuck MMO's that have come out recently. Of course they wont be perfect. Nothing ever is.

Lil WoW tidbit I just found out, which might effect some people (myself included).
Apparently the game is on a Real Time 24hr timer. So, say if your a casual gamer, you get home from work around 5:30, have dinner, sit down to play WoW around 7:30. You will always be playing at night. Your little character will never grace the light of day...until the weekend.
I could see this as a very big problem for casual gamers. If there are Day/Night spawns for quests, how are you going to get a day spawn, when your in work 5 out of 7 days.
..still going tho.

Not necessarily. The community mangler confirmed today that there are timezones in WoW. So looks like we'll have some West Coast/East Coast action in-game with WoW.
