Back Pain

So I woke up yesterday with a serious pain in my back, pretty much in the centre of it. Now normally if I get an ache I'll just pop some Tylenol or Advil and I'm usually gtg after that because the pain usually goes away by the time the pills wear off, but this time they aren't giving me any relief and it's been going for 2 days. So, I guess what I'm asking is does anyone have any advice on how to try and relieve some of the pain? Any stretches or something that might help?

Try one of those disposable heating pad things? Or maybe some icyhot?

Honestly if you've had pain for two days, you should really see a doctor.
I know a bunch of stretches, but you might want to find out what's wrong first.

Dont Stretch , until AFTER you go see a doc.
I threw my back out a few months ago (leaning over a pc) I wasnt doing any heavy lifting or anything. All I did was look over the back of this thing , as I came up , OUCH. I took it easy the rest of the day , but made the mistake of going into a fetal position to stretch , that just made it worse. Three weeks later I got back to regular work.
Best advice , go see a doc , then take it easy and sdo the theraputic stretches they advise , they do actually help in the long run.

The only cure for chronic back pain is chronic masterbation.
Learn it
Live it
Love it

I think I'll merge those last 2 ideas and get a little Asian girl to masturbate me. Problem solved!

Being a Massage Therapist I would suggest seeing a doctor or chiropractor then treat yourself to a massge =)
This is a suggestion..–®|¿.....

Oooh too much of that can damage the synovial capsule and potentially lead to rheumatoid arthritis later in life. My orthopedist friend just cringes when I pop knuckles in front of him...

Ill be serious and not a ass.
If you do want back pain to go away, loseing weight will be the best thing of it all. More so than pills and other tricks. I had a weight gain when I dislocated a disk in my back. Physical training and such only helped to some degree. The best way to at least lose some weight fast and not a diet or anything is if you drink soda. Stop. Just start chugging water and you will lose at least 10 lbs in a month and you will feel a huge diffrence.
98% if all back pain comes from the weight of a person, unless you dislocate a disk or such.
You can do some streches, but dont push it where it causes sharp or any deep pain. Chances are you just pulled a muscle in your sleep and its connected near your hip. If thats the case, unless you lose a lot of weight it will cause problems the rest of your life.

Yea, I understand weight plays a large role in things like back pain, as well as many other health problems, and is one reason why I'm in fact working on it. But this isn't some chronic problem I have, more like I pinched a nerve or something. If it's not any better by Monday, to the doctor with me, and holy fucking god am I having a civil conversation with Raistin?
Quick, call me fat again.

By being over weight you can in fact pinch a nerve from it. The only thing a doctor can really do for a pinched nerve is to give you some pills for it. You will still feel the pain no matter what.
If I remember right its called Lower Lumber pain from what youve described. Its caused by pressure in the lower back from a strain or gain of weight/over weight. The only way you can fix that is streches and some excercies by making your lower back muscles stronger. Like leg lifts, small crunches, leg raises.
Do small reps and sets. Like 9 reps, and 3 sets. Hold everything for like 5 seconds. You want to start off small, to advoid over extending yourself and hurtting even more.
I was always civil to you. For some reason youre the one that wanted to be a dick head to 80% of the guild and myself. I even tried a few times to extend a understanding with you. All started being one of the few who would even help you try and get your epic. Went down hill from there. /shrug

Also if its a pinched nerve i would suggest looking into Deep Tissue work.
Still only a suggestion...........

roll up a blanket or something similar and sleep with it under your knees .. so your knees wont be straight but have a slight bend on them. wont work if you move a lot in your sleep. that's usually for lower back pain to mid back, also .. sorta figure out if your pain is from muscles, tension or swelling or if its in teh bones. can do that via massage from you wife or at if you know someone that wants to help out. or just go see a doc for it. if it's bone.. then get on the wagon of fixing it. if it's muscles, then stretching and sleeping for a good while with those bent knees might do the trick. guessing you take showers .. take baths and relax in em. unless you have a crappy bathtub .. then use hottubs at some gym.
another reason could be, which is also my problem. strength in my legs is much more compared to the strenght of my abs and back muscles. you should know your build, and know which is the stronger for you, work the other. i had cronic backpains, started working out and focused somewhat on abs and lower backmuscles, in doing that for a few months .. i had no pain in back for 4 years, they just starting to come back now. and i'm heading back to the gym.

I just remembered, about 2 yrs ago I was havin a lot of lower back pain, and I went to a doctor... turns out my bones grew too fast for my muscles (legnth wise).
So I had to do a bunch of different stretches to work out my lower back muscles fun stuff

There are sooo many reasons why people have backpain. For example:
- slipped disk(s)
- bad posture
- weight
- insufficient levels of hydration
- appendicitis
- kidney problems (or stones)
- gall bladder problems (or stones)
- pulled muscles
The list just goes on and on. If you get any degree of pain, especially if it came on quickly and lasts longer than a day, don't diagnose yourself, get to a doctor, find out what is wrong and treat
that. I had a friend who hid his pain for a day or so with Atasol 30’s and died of appendicitis of all things

It is not worth it, go to someone who knows.

You can add general tension to that list.
General back pain can be helped a number of ways that can range from losing weight to relieving stress. I will say this though, if you really threw it out, you wouldn't be able to move. When mine got knotted up, i was stuck on the floor for about 45 minutes which was the time it took me to crawl from the hallway to the bedroom phone. About the only good thing I took away from it is the ability to recognize it potentially occuring and being able to calm myself before it goes full blown.
ohh and I also learned how magnificent Percocet is

You can throw your back out by doing something as simple as bending over to pick up something

Dregor...I am not surprised you ended up with back pain after shooting your Star Wars kid videos. That looked like you could have caused much damage in those gyrations.
In all seriousness though, I have the same problems from time to time with my back as what you are describing. Seeing a doctor is most likely not going to do you any good unless you want surgery. I would put money down that one of the discs in your spine is out of whack just a tad and you are pinching a nerve. If you pinch it really good, you are going to feel it for a few days.
I have actually done it a few times where it literally has dropped me to the ground and been unable to get up. Usually it is from doing something mundane and not exerting myself at all. You would probably benefit more from seeing a chiropractor than an MD on this. A friend of mine has had very good luck with a good chiropractor, although I am just not willing to spend the cash for temporary fixes. My best friend for back pain is 2 Aleve and not moving much for a couple days.

I have had a bad back for years stemming from my basic training. We were lifting bridge parts and I felt something give. REALLY hurt but I only had two weeks of training left and there was no fucking way I was going to get held back so I sucked it up. That was in 1991. Every year since I have thrown my back out at least once. Once I got strep throat at the same time. GOOD TIMES!
I have learned to be very careful about bending my knees and geting good exercise and I haven't thrown my back out really bad (as in laid up and can't walk) in a couple of years. Things I avoid now though are bowling and mule kicks. I threw my back out doing both activities.
One thing I have found that helps is to lay over the back of a bed backwards with the edge of the bed right on the spot that hurts. Lots of Tylenol is also good and vicodin was awesome when I had it.
My wife has pretty bad back pain stemming from a slight case of scoliosis. She started seeing a chiropractor and after a few adjustments they straightened her out enough that she actually grew an inch.

While Raistin is correct that strengthening muscles is the way to fix chronic back pain the muscle group he targets is wrong.
Chronic lower back pain is usually the result of weak stomach muscles and the back is compensating by having to work harder to maintain the upright posture.
In terms of easy stretches that will not cause further damage if it turns out to be caused by something other than strained muscles or displaced bones, the following works for me;
Get two rolls of toilet paper
While lying on your back place one roll each under each butt cheek towards the lower back (not towards the thigh).
Watch TV for 20 mins then remove rolls, 10 mins later repeat. This was recommended by a chiropractor when I was up at the cottage for a summer vacation and could not go for therapy on a regular basis.
Worked so well I havent been back to the chiropractor, also started doing crunches and other stomach excercises which also helped tons.
Good Luck as a sore back can fuck up everything you are doing.
Cheers
