Ok, this may be something really simple but its bugging the hell out of me because I cant fix it.

Just a day or two ago I downloaded the newest version of AIM and within the hour had been sent some type of spyware virus program. After finding the instructions on how to remove it I did so but ever since I seem to be having problems with my IE. The main one that is bugging me is that I can't open 3/4 of the links that I click on anymore. What would usually either pop open a new window or a box asking where I want to download _blank_file now just doesnt respond.

When I mouse over the links it gives me the URL at the bottom like normal but when I click it just doesnt load, even when I right click and tell it to open a new window...if anyone has any idea what could be causing this I could really use the help

Silly question... Do you have a pop-up stopper program installed?

Yeah I had Adaware 5 when it first cropped up and managed to get Adaware 6 to try and fix it after, but no luck.

Hmm ok, what I meant was something like Popup Stopper Pro.

When it's installed it runs while IE is up and running. If you go to a site with popup adds or if you click on a link that is a popup, it will not load unless you click on "Add this site" to the allow popups list.

Not certain what the problem is....

What version of windows are you running?

I had the same problem on my old computer. I had to do a roll back to fix it.

If you have Win 98 or a version thereof, you can go to the run command and type in "msinfo32", go to tools, and run the internet explorer repair tool. Uninstall any toolbars or any other internet applications or helpers before you do this. This should fix any normal problems with IE. Do a search on the web for Spybot and download that. Run it and remove anything it comes up with. It is more thorough than ad-aware.

If you are on Win XP, just run a restore and go back to before you downloaded the AIM that caused you problems. You could also do this for Win ME or Win 98 if you wanted, although the IE repair will probably work.
