Ok. I'm sure I'm not the only person who does this. Have any of you ever just looked in your fridge/pantry and, seeing just a few disparate ingredients, decided to see if you could make anything out of them?
I want to hear what some other people have put together for the sake of curiosity and depseration. Usually, these unholy mixes are inedible, and you wind up making a "run for the border." Sometimes, though, you stumble on something tasty.
Here are some of mine:
HITS
Sandwich made of last remnant of turkey, mortadella, Hungarian kashkava cheese, tail end of red onion, tomato, curried lentils, garam masala powder, and dijon mustard. Sounds nasty, was expected to be nasty, but wound up tasting not at all bad....in a unique sort of way.
Pasta made with blue cheese, butter, brie, and pine nuts for the sauce. (remnants of a cheese course)
Pasta with mix of various leftover sauces - pesto, alfredo, and a little pomodoro. yum!
MISSES
Second time I tried to make that pasta....blegh.
Dip made from myonnaise, capers, anchovy paste, cream cheese, pesto...and damn, I don't remember what else was in it, but it was f***ing VILE.
and many more, but I'm in a hurry.
Anyway...yeah.... I want to hear about your experiments!
