My cousin and I are going to do some acoustic sets this spring/summer and we are in process of thinking through set lists etc. While we won't have any problems filling out the lists I thought it might be fun to see what songs y'all might turn up...

Basically it'll be the two of us...Totally acoustic (probably) though we will amplify the acoustics...Instruments will be primarily guitars though we will mix in fiddle, mandolin, banjo, harmonica maybe some pedal steel...

Our influences are diverse sets will include a wide variety of styles...Punk-New Wave, Classic Rock, Good C & W, Delta Blues, Alternative, Reggae, Standards, Traditionals, Gospel...

Song requirements: Melodic, Evocative, Lyrically & Musically Interesting

What a great list. :)

You may also wish to consider:

Elvis Costello - "Accidents Will Happen" (off of 'Armed Forces')
Chris Isaac - various (His "Speak of the Devil" CD is particularly good, for example)
Dire Straits - "Romeo and Juliet", off of 'Making Movies' (I believe the Indigo Girls covered this one as well)
The Clash - "Train in Vain" (the last, unadvertised, song on 'London Calling'). Annie Lennox does a nice version of this on her 'Medusa' album as well.

And, going out on a limb, if you have never heard of The Low & Sweet Orchestra, you may wish to give their 'Goodbye to All That' album a listen - you may find a track or two on that worth performing.

Romeo and Juliet...yerp I do that solo a bunch...:)

I'm also thinking

Closing Time by semisonic very poppy but I really like the song

God I scowled at people that request that song when we used to play.

I don't care where you are performing. If you are/were in a band, at any given show. There is some drunk in the back that ALWAYS screams "PLAY SOME SKYNYRD MAN!" in a true redneck fashion.

And I really don't like skynyrd either.

wont sound good acoustic, but funny i'm listening to it right now. pretty amazing solos.

here is another great one that is awesome accoustic. if your name is Jesus Christ Stevie Ray Vaughn, "Pride and Joy"

he did a version of it on MTV unplugged in like 1990. He did the first half of the show, then Joe Satriani did the second half. pretty good show for MTV :p

A fine list.

Only additional suggestion I can think of at the moment is maybe some Talking Heads. Psycho Killer, Heaven, This Must be the Place (a lot of other potential ones too).
