All flames asside I'm just a bit curious to hear from those involved what's exactly up with PD/FS?! I thought you guys were always going to remain separate guilds?

Nevermind. False alarm. FS homepage back to normal!

all joking aside, they need to consolodate and reduce their raid force size if they are going to succeed in the progression path.

I dont keep track of PD raid #'s or anything, but people talk about them raiding with 85-100.

the sooner you learn to raid with 56-65 the better equipped you'll be to handle Time. that and the fact that they arent going to get two time instances, means that they might as well merge.

i'm just speaking casually about the subject giving my uninformed opinion. obviously whatever they do that makes the game fun for them i guess is what is important.

I don't see how those numbers could be fun, don't zones start lagging at that point? I've been at Xegony when another guild was below us doing rings in air, it wasn't fuckin fun at all. Sure AEs and mobs swing slower, but its god awefully boring.

I hate wind chimes and chirping birds.

Someone help me here. I'm not sure if you guys saw Farstorm's site lastnight but either I was REALLY fucked up or I saw a tombstone on the frontpage that said Farstorm R.I.P 2002-2004. And I believe there were notes of FS and PD merging into a new guild and further details would come out later.

Granted, I was really fucked up lastnight but can someone else confirm that page was actually there?

Cid:
Xag redesigned the site after I steped down as webmaster. He has about 50,000x more experience with websites than I do, which is why it looks so much better.

Someone will probably fuss at me for this, but...

I designed and coded the current site and handled updates and that sort of thing. The hosting service is provided by someone else who is a casual, long time FS member who is not too thrilled with the merger proposal. The RIP page you saw last night was her her method of protest, I guess. She killed my access to the server when she did that, so as of last night, I'm officially uninvolved with the web site

As far as whether a merger will occur, I'll leave that to the leadership of the two guilds to discuss if / when there is something to announce.

P.S. - Thanks, Kyria

Interesting infoz. All prejudice set asside I feel bad for those involved in such a thing I know it will be a difficult transition for both parties involved.

I've always considered FS a somewhat casual guild focused on endgame (when they get around to it). I fear for those who found comfort in that as well because I doubt this "new guild" will allow such a thing.

EQ always needs that type of guild and it's ashame to see one such as FS disolve into another "raid hungry" monster. Unfortunetely, there aren't enough guilds like that on Veeshan anymore. :(

GL with the transition guys... hope everyone can find a home in the end.

OR just make sure that they're not fucking unstable. I guess we got lucky with Pyrella being able to rein in Xoucow's psychoses.

No shit! If this was left in Zoocow's hands it would be all Red Wing symbols and 8 legged slimy things...

And mad props to FS website, very nice interface. Is that a template?

Posted: January 22, 2004, 5:39 pm
by Xatrei
Thanks, Sarg.

It's a template that I put together using PHP. The page banner, menu, footer, etc. are included via require(./docname.php) statements so that only one document needs to be changed to modify any those elements. I was inspired by http://www.csszengarden.com to make the xhtml markup pretty vanilla and leave all the formatting to my CSS. If I have a sudden burst of energy / creativity I could easily add other themes ala the zengarden.

Yes definetely nice!

I've always been more "forum-oriented" with my sites and kinda just slapped stuff together. One of these days maybe I'll get into a nice template system for the site to pretty things up.... however, that involves SOME design-sense which I'm lacking. heh

If your interested in just "forum-oriented" PHP nuke really dresses up a site.

Here is an example

old site http://www.cs-collective.com/phpbb/index.php

New site http://www.cs-collective.com/

Most of those "nuke" portals have a lot of added stuff not really needed for guild websites. I've worked with all the free PHP forum packages and found a rather strange love for vBulletin. I swear by it now, especially the most recent vb3 betas... great stuff.

There are tons of portals available for it but it's mostly added fluff I'd rather just code in there anyways. Our site, as far as I'm concerned, is completely functional and has all the features it needs making everything automated and very little to manage anymore. It could definetely stand to pretty up a bit but I'm a systems guy!

One of the reasons i joined Farstorm almost 2 years ago was this very reason.. they were casual but raided enough to satisfy my appetite for raiding and progression... I left a month or 2 after the alliance began because i saw it turning into something I didn't want to be a part of. I knew I would make little to no difference in the way things went and the game became unfun for me.

I've spent most of the last 2 months guildless and re-finding the fun in a game i still love to play. I've had more time to spend with my friends that play instead of worrying about when the next raid was going to start or pissing away 3-4 hours sitting in a zone to claim a spawn when it popped.

between myself and several of my close ingame friends we were able to basically start up a small guild just for us. and i've had more fun in the last 3 weeks then i've had in a long time with what little time i actually have to play these days.

I'm glad in a way that i left when i did. If i was still there i would be even more frustrated with things as i am basically down to 2 days a week of playtime. gratz working a P.O.S. job to pay the bills. I can't and won't say anything bad about Farstorm. they were my home for one and a half years, and I have many great memories of my time with them. If i could change one thing I've ever done in EQ it would be to not support the alliance with PD.

I don't say that because i think PD is a bad guild.. quite the opposite actually. I say that because of the hurt that has been caused to people because of it.

EQ always needs that type of guild and it's ashame to see one such as FS disolve into another "raid hungry" monster. Unfortunetely, there aren't enough guilds like that on Veeshan anymore. :(

can't agree more with that.

i think the notion that a hard core raiding guild can't be a fun social guild is false.

for instance i've been to CD's annual cookout, and they are friends and have fun and stuff. just when they play EQ, they do take it seriously.

I think my guild Sovereign, is very similar. We do have fun when we are online. We do goof off together, just not so much during raids.

Sure raids require a certain dedication level and amount of individual dedication, but that does not mean that guilds that raid are not places where people have fun with each other, have persistent friendships both in and out of game, and all that good shit.

Or you just teach yourself asp/php and write the whole site from scratch like I did :P

As far as FS/PD.. It saddens me greatly. Ress was one of the truely class act Guild Leaders that I have met. I /salute you bud. OtB is one of the few part time guilds left that are at the Tier2/elemental level now.. Really quite sad.

I wonder if this is why I've had to turn away soo many more recruits lately??
