Thanks for the link, those are great. That lightning photo is just amazing, so are most of the others. I'd love to know what editing was done on some of those.

That rainbow one is great, just this last year there was a double rainbow near my house(seattle). The only time I have ever seen one, and from what I've heard, it may be the only one I'll ever see.

Speaking of good photography, does anyone know of a site with free outdoor photographs in high resolution(for desktop backgrounds), prefferable northwest america(Washington, Oregon, Alaska, British Columbia, etc..)?

Some really special looking photos there, i don't think they are allowed to edit them much. Maybe minor touch ups etc. nut nothing extreme, either way, most of them look amazing.

here in florida we had some killer lightning storms in 03, there was a picture of about 7 or so lightning bolts in the same shot pretty close together, i think it looked a hell of a lot better then that wall

for shear effect , I really like the pic of Mamatas (the cloud shot) I have been involved with weather for 15 years. The cloud shot is called Cumulonimbus Mamatas. If you are involved in any way in weather , you know that if ya see that , well your Fucked :( . I actually have a pic of it on my desktop right now.

I like how they show a picture of the entire world at night and city lights.

They make the picture look like it's just one picture.

At first I was like... WTF? It's night all around!?! Then I read
This composite image shows what Earth looks like at night. City lights highlight developed areas of the planet.
Brain fart :P

Coatlie , the reason for the fear is that "CB Mam's" are the most violent type of cloud (that can directly effect us). That cloud is caused by only the severest thunderstorms. You know 2-5in hail, Tornadoes, severe up and down drafts. In weather there are things you look for , that AINT one of them `lol`. Anothere very pretty cloud is Alto Cumulos Standing Lenticular. Do a quick search and find some of those too. They are mainly formed on the backside of mountains. They are caused by a swirling vertical type wind (think sideways tornado). They wreak havoc on tha aviation industry.

It's not about just the lightning, it the picture as a whole. If it were just a plain wall I would agree with you. But you need to look at the overall composition.
