Vicoprofen??

I got a 'script for Vicoprofen, what the hell is it, some mix to lower the good stuff so all the drug seekers get pissed, or does it actually have a value, none of the online references are worth a damn for subjective views.

7.5mg Vicodin and a ton of mg of Ibuprofen

I believe that ibuprofen has anti-inflammatory properties that the vicodin lacks.

Regular "vicodin" is usually some split of Hydrocodone and Acetometaphine. I'm assuming that the one you have is Hydrocodone and Ibuprofen. I've had both prescribed to me and they are both pretty similar. 7.5 is the magic number to be concerned with, that's a decent amount. I don't believe it goes much higher than 10mg, so they definitely aren't childrens' chewable capsules.

yup as masteen said, the ibuprofin (advil) has an anti-inflammatory component that is better than acetomenaphen (tylenol).

Thanks All!

Bloody Toothache from hell :-(

Can you say "root canal" in my future, I look forward to it since at least Shaerra will not be there :-)

Ibuprofen are good, if you get the big 600mg pills, you wont notice much pain while you are on them :). Had them for a bad food once, almost considered starting ballet dancing .)

But some people cant use them for some reason, if you get any problems while on them, talk to your doctor, theres a load of stuff you can have problems with while on them.

I'm allergic to Ibuprofen. Makes life hell at times.

As I stated before, I have horrible arthritis. I have tried Celebrex, Darvocet, Vicodan, Bexxtra and Vicoprofen. Essentially it is Vicodan with Ibuprofen. Vicodan is made with Tylenol. I find the Vicoprofen to work significantly better, probably because it does reduce the swelling.

I hope you get better, and do not have too much pain.

ah - I have very fond memories of vicodin after surgery....

Sounds like good stuff.

The anti-inflammatory properties of ibuprofen(advil) really help when my neck injury flares up. And when it flares up really bad it would be nice if I had some of that stuff.

Does it just kill the pain or does it make you sleepy or dizzy or anything?

LOL.

I highly recommend demerol after surgery.

oh wow.

I thought Vicodin was basically a synthesized form of codeine? Maybe I am not thinking correctly here... either way, I always enjoyed it with ice cream whenever I was injured. ;)

I still feel some pain, you just don't care about it as much. It seems to also be a hit and miss thing. Sometimes I take it and feel like I am drugged off my ass, other times I don't notice much of a "buzz" at all. They also tend to make me more "chatty."

The best thing is to take a couple of vicoprofens before golfing, then buy a six pack on the course, put the beer in a bag of ice and see how badly you can shoot.

Tooth ache hurts more than a root canal does. Root canals are more 'uncomfortable' than painful from my experience.

It is a partial synth of codine.
I know this because one pill puts me in the ER with various tubes jutting out of my body. ><

I agree completely. Of all the horror stories I've heard about root canals, I found mine to be completely a non-issue. Slightly uncomfortable keeping your jaw locked open for the duration of the procedure and the stink of your tooth burning and the sound of the drill are the worst parts..

(The jaw locked open discomfort probably would be a non-issue to PE members..)

Yeah I agree on the root canal thing, because the worst part is the time and ache, afterwords it is fine.

Last night though I had to have an extraction done on the tooth, it was killing me through the drugs. Thank God it was a back tooth ( number 2) to be precise.

Vicodin uses hydrocodone instead of oxycodone. Supposedly, it's not as habit forming and even has a lower legal status with regards to getting perscriptions.
Acetometaphine has always been used in those combos but the high dosage can be dangerous for you liver. Maybe that's the reason you got an alternative or maybe it's just because it's more effective than th APAP version.

I'm not really sure how strong hydrocodone is with oxycodone mg for mg, but if they are essentially the same strength, 7.5mg is quite a bit. Most common combo in only 5 mg and at that level you get a pretty slick high. So enjoy the party :)

Personally I am a big Aleve fan. I still have a bunch of perscription strength Naproxen (2 1/2 over the counter pills) pills left from when I had a massive back spasm 1 1/2 years ago. Also had my only experience with Percocet at that time. Only had 12 of those magnificant pills though

mmm Demerol. :) I had that when I was hospitalized for mono. Every three hours for 5 days, I got a shot of demerol in the hip/ass area. The bruising lasted quite a while too. It got to a point where I was watching the clock, waiting for the 3 hours to pass, then I'd buzz the nurse for more.

Demerol is the best shit I've ever had. I got a shot of it in the ass once when I was in the ER for something, I could literally feel it pumping through my veins spreading its goodness. I could go for a shot right now!

Ibuprofen can cause liver damage as well. I don't remember the exact time frame but you aren't supposed to take high doses for more than two weeks at a time.

I got Vicoden when I had my wisdom teeth yanked. I didn't need them much for that but they were great when I was playing football. One of them and 2 ibuprofens and I never felt my ankle tendonitis.

I'm currently taking Naproxen for a knee injury that just doesn't seem to get better (since last March). I'm also on "long lasting" codeine to help with the knee pain. Doesn't really help all that much though, and I have no fucking clue as to why my knee is STILL sore after all these months. :?

I had a demerol/valium mix via IV when my wisdom teeth were removed. Feeling the drugs entering your veins is a strange and glorious feeling. I think I was high for 36 hours. Of course, the pain after it wore off hurt like a mfer.

get something else! Naproxen does nothing for me - I might as well take nothing - even aspirin would do better.

Before she put me on Naproxen, I was taking Bextra (as well as the codeine). She put me on Naproxen because it was cheaper (I actually use Naproxen for another reason, and works wonders for that).

The Bextra seemed to work better for my knee. It's not that I want to find something that *works*, I want to know what the hell is wrong with my knee and why it doesn't seem to get better. :( So far my doctor hasn't been able to help. I'm hoping that once I move I'll have better luck with my new doctor.

Have them do an MRI you may have a tear. I had a MRI that showed a slight tear in both knees. When they went it to clean out the tear the scalpel went all the way to bone. The arthritis had eaten away the knee so much the cartilage had turned into a jellylike material. I had 3 surgeries and no fix.

here is a link about knee arthritis.
http://www.jri-oh.com/kneesurgery/Knee_Arthritis.asp

I hope you do not have arthiritis, I would not wish this pain on anyone. If you do have it, ride a bike everyday and try and keep your weight down.

Also try Ultram or Ultracet. They did not do much for me but they are supposed to be like Morphine. My brother used them when he was hurt and it knocked him out completely.

Good luck with the knees!

Definitely get an MRI done if your coverage will hack it. That's why I always stick w/ a PPO when given the choice, was able to go straight to the sports medicine specialist when my knee swelled up like a balloon w/out any immediate trauma occurring(nothing to say about the 18 years of running competitively but not when it swelled). So many things can go wrong with knees but steady knee pain sounds like a pre-arthritic condition so be careful.

Thanks for the info guys.

What happened was, last March, I smashed my knee pretty good into the corner of the coffee table. The table corner hit on the outside of the knee joint, just below the knee cap. Hope that makes sense, I can point it out easier than trying to describe it. :P I ended up with a bruise about six inches long, from my knee down to my shin. My knee was perfectly fine until I banged it up.

My mother had a tear in her knee and she had to have surgery a few years ago. I had brought up the possibility of a tear with my doctor a few months ago but she dismissed it, saying that it probably wasn't a tear since I had only banged my knee, and a tear happens deeper in the joint (or something to that effect). Then I suggested nerve damage or something, and she dismissed that too.

I went for x-rays, they showed nothing (no fractures). I asked about arthritis, and she said there is "slight" arthritis in my knee, but nothing to worry about at this point. Frankly, if this pain IS due to "slight" arthritis, I would REALLY hate to see what's in store for me 20 years down the road.

My doctor said it was probably something to do with my ligament, and that if I "take it easy" it will get better. It's been 10 months though, and aside from normal daily activity, I haven't put any strain on my knee. It just won't get better. Every time I go in to see the doctor and tell her something just isn't right, she gives me more pills and sends me on my way. :? It's quite frustrating.

I'll bring up the MRI with my doctor and see what she says. If she still doesn't do anything I'll have to wait until I move to Anchorage.

An Xray will not show any tears, unless they do a very specific one with the knees at a certain angle. The MRI may not show much either.

As for a possible tear, I have seen people in therapy that had a tear from stepping onto a curb. If you hit it at the right angle anything can happen. Ask the doctor about synvisc. It is used to lubricate the joints. May just be irritated and causing too much friction as you kneecap slides along its groove.

I am glad you do not have bad arthirits. Trust me it is miserable and there are no real options yet to fix it.

Other then that do what the doc says and try a steady routine of alternating icing and heating. Also elevate when possible.
