The 2003 UFC Fight that caused a lot of Ruckus

Phil "NY Badass" Baroni VS Evan Tanner.

First the Fight-fans complained when Larry Landless (The Judge) interrupted the match (1:15 in the match) so they could check his cuts when many thought that Baroni would TKO Tanner instead. I really think that if Larry didnt interrupt the match at that point, Baroni would have KO's Tanner there.

The other thing Fight-fans complained about was the questions Landless asked Baroni while he was defending from elbows on the ground.

It was like Larry was trying to start a conversation with Baroni, making it very hard for Baroni to think what to answer while trying to defend from the elbows! What question am i answering to? :D

The thing was that Landless asked different questions like,
Do you want to give up? Are you ok? Baroni answered Yes to the Are you ok question but Landless thought Baroni answered Yes to Do you want to give up LOL!

Thats why Pride Judge only have one Question when you are in a bad spot.

GIVE UP? GIVE UP? Can only be one response to that! :D

Did Larry Landless save Tanner?

Was Baroni ever in trouble?

You judge for yourself!

One thing is for sure, Baroni got real mad at Judge Landless! :D

Heh.. I was waiting for Evan Tanner to split Phil Baroni's head open like Tito did to (I believe it was) Elvis Sinosic about a year and a half ago.

I think Larry Landless screwed Baroni pretty bad on this one. I wouldn't be surprised to see both a rematch between these two and an early retirement or announcer position for Larry Landless in the near future.

The Thing is, due to Baroni's temper (that he hit Landless), he wont be fighting in UFC again.

Too bad for UFC, Baroni gets butts in their seats!

So the rematch has to be in another organization! :D

Both Landless and Baroni came out with an apology after the fight tho hehe.

Yeah, if you ask me, Landless screwed up! That was Baroni's fight.

He'll probably show up in either KotC, Pancrase or Pride in the next few months. What I fear for him is the Pride rules allowing knees to the head while down. He didn't seem to have any real skills from the half-guard or full mount against Tanner and putting him in the ring against hard hitters like the Gracies, Vanderlei, Carlos Newton, Chuck Liddel or Igor Vovchanchyn who can dominate in a ground-and-pound situation could put him in some serious hurt. He does however show remarkable skill in stand up fighting. I could see him going toe-to-toe with the likes of Marco Ruas, Mark Coleman or Kevin Randleman if he worked on his conditioning and stamina. He got pretty winded about 3 minutes into that fight, which was probably very much due to takeing a half dozen knees to the midsection, but his punches were lacking a focus that they had at the start of the fight.

If he trained more grappling/kicking he could go a long way in Pride!

Love this Engrish from a Japanese Sportspage! :)

It is faint KO defeat to dawn and SAPPU!

Although bob SAPPU showed the scene which retreats to "aggressiveness's" pressure of the former yokozuna and Tarou Akebono who became a pro grapple house debut game, it knocks out with a right straight for 1R 2 minutes and 58 seconds! Full revival was accomplished and war was anew declared on TAISON observed by 2 yuan relay with Hawaii, saying "It is next TAISON." K-1 showed volition at the SAPPU vs TAISON game as "Wanting to make it realize in the U.S. also at next spring, if early."

The dawn beaten on the other hand "the head has become pure white. Pushing was only completed. There was difficulty which does not finish even if it drives into a corner unlike sumo wrestling. There is always someone better. Another war is expected that moreover, I want to challenge." The mountain stream producer showed the intention to construct the 2nd game of dawn also at next spring. In addition, in a guest seat, the rival Takanohana master (former yokozuna Takanohana) of a long sumo match time also watched the game of dawn.

Moreover, Shinsuke Nakamura who became first participation in the war in semi, and Alexis IGUNASHOFU are "supernova" confrontation. About KO victory by knee kick of IGUNASHOFU, Nakamura who stood up immediately, and a new Japan camp make a protest formally, saying, "A break and a game stop are too early." Mr. Tanigawa told considering as a sponsor's keeping for a time also including examination of another war by "It verifies and a conclusion is drawn later."

Dynamite of Nagoya Dome which attracted attention particularly with the dream card of "dawn vs SAPPU" in the New Year's Eve 3 major performance!! being alike -- frenzy, such as full 43,560-person spectators gathering and sending a size "dawn" call How far it closed in upon "red and white" with the audience rating announced on the 2nd attracts attention.
