Beer question

Since I turned 21 my friend and myself have started beer week. Every weekend we go out and buy a few six packs of a different type of beer we've never had in a quest to find the best beer. What are your suggestions for a beer we try next?

We've tried so far:
Guiness
Samuel Adams Cream Stout (PUKE)
Sapporo

Pref. a beer that doesnt leave a nasty dirt aftertaste in your mouth like that Samuel Adams did.

by Arundel Pajo
Abita Turbodog
Negra Modelo
Sheaf's Stout
Dos Equis (ghetto, but yet so tasty)
Young's Ramrod

QUANTITY OVER QUALITY at your age my friend...

so I suggest:

Coors Light
Blitz Weinhard
Miller Genuine Draft LIGHT :D
Natural Ice

a salt lick and a pepsi will cure the inevitable cheap beer hangover. Or another beer.

May the force be with you.

Find out if there are any brewpubs nearby and start there, but make sure someone else is sober enough to drive. Beer from the tap is usually better than beer from a bottle and infinately better than from the can.

Bridgeport IPA - Smooth IPA with a tad bite at the end. Nice. Recommended.

http://www.bridgeportbrew.com/bp-brews-ipa.html

Widmer Hefeweizen - Real nice beer. Its a meal though. Tastes real refreshing with a quarter of lemon squeezed in. Recommended.

http://www.widmer.com/beers/hefeweizen.html

MacTarnahan's Highlander Pale Ale - Very simliar to Bridgeport IPA with a subtle difference... a little less bite in the end. Recommended.

http://www.macsbeer.com/brews_highlander.html

Insanely mass produced beer that takes 1.5 hours to make can go suck it. All you redneck hillbilly bitches slurping down the Bud and the Coors... you have taste issues or are entirely too poor. You should think about not drinking.

I dunno man, I'm 23 and I still don't have enough money to really try the good beers. I stick to my watered down, cheap, american beer that gets me drunk. Or I just buy shots. And if the situation requires it, take one of those nasty ass shooters girls seem to be so found of with them.

Corsendonk - Trappist Monk Pale Ale

comes in a 4pk around $10, or one 750ml bottle for around $6

Incredible stuff... very different than American Pale Ales.

Happy belated B-day, and have fun with your beers... just be careful.

I dunno if you can get it in six packs, but In AZ you can get Fat Tire Ale which is pretty nice.

Sam Adams Cream Stout?! never heard of it.
I'm pretty diehard for standard Sam tho.

If you are just looking to get high get some killer green bud.

a) Its cheaper
b) It lasts longer
c) It dont add pounds (unless yer a munchies freak)

or if yer a real fucked up case just get yourself a $10.00 rock on MLKJr.

a) its REAL cheap
b) You wont have teeth (no dentist bills)
c) No bills (no home, no car, no job...)
d) You will eventually get to meet Bubba the Ass Fucker in prison.

Seriously though... if you are just simply looking to get slammed just get yourself a Pepsi and 3-4 shots of 100 proof Fire Water (basically a nice shnops)

EEEEK! Are you insane Truant? Fat Tire tastes like someone took a shit in my beer -hehe

Trust in me... Bridgeport... Macs.... goooood....

Im not sure how far out there distribute, but do keep in mind I live around the Brew Pub Capital of the world :) (Seattle, WA and Portland, OR)... we make some damn good beer. The day will come when we conquer the world.

I live in AZ too and have found that actually a lot of places keep Fat Tire on tap (The Vine specifically). It is pretty decent. But, I used to live near Ft. Collins CO where is it brewed so I have a sentimental attachment to it~

stragi, if you're up for a beer adventure, take your friends and go to the timberwolf. it's on rural (i think?) and whatever-the-fuck road asu sits on. they've got something like 100 beers on tap, lots of tv's, darts, TRIVIA (oh yes) and occasionally karaoke.

that bar might be the only thing i actually miss about living there.

p.s. i liek fat tire. and yes, they sell it bottled in arizona. but from the tap is eleventy billion times better. but like seithyr said, it is pricier. <( ' ' )>

Newcastle
Sam Adams Winter Lager (or good ol' regular)
Pilsner Urquell
Yeungling is good AND cheap

But the best beer sir is a Black Castle

1/2 Newcastle 1/2 Guiness (think black and tan)

Sam Adams has severly degraded over the years... Japanese beer, is..well...just not that great for the price.

Here are some good ones:

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
Stone Brewing Arrogant Bastard Ale
Rogue Dead Guy Ale

Or just get a few cases of:

PBR
Natty Ice
Hamms

and get rad

Apache west of Rural. There is a Vine near there too. Always terrible service but cold beer and great wings~

I have always liked Michalob Amber Bock. Never liked Grolsch always gave me heartburn. If you can get your hands on authentic Cheq Budweiser its pretty good also start with the silver cap then move to the gold cap. Kronenbourg 1664 wasn't to bad either. After a few weeks of no other beer to drink in Belize Belikens arn't to bad either. Carling wasn't to bad when I tried it but maybe thats cause I was on a Plane for 12 hours and it was the first beer I had when I got off.

In no particular order:

Samuel Adams (regular, none of that fancy stuff)
Guinness
Newcastle Brown Ale
Killian's Irish Red
Shiner Bok
Harp

by Xatrei
Anchor Steam
Newcastle Brown Ale
Warsteiner
Anchor Steam Liberty Ale (if you can find it)

Pilsner Urquell.

Budweiser Budvar (Czech beer)
Stella Artois
Grolsch
Carling
Carling Black Label
Heineken
OranjeBoom (heel lekker!)
Becks
Hoegaarden (Belgian and white, but good anyway, those monks knew something about beer!)
Newcastle Brown Ale

stick to Pilsners, stouts and bitter (yuck!) are for harder men than joo!

If you aren't looking for a serious beer education go with Sirensa's comments about quantity over quality.

Fat Tire Ale (west of Mississippi) or Harpoon IPA (east)

Favorite "quantity" beer:

Molson Canadian

If you like your beer dark, and feel like saving your food money, try Black Butte Porter.

Pete's Wicked Ale - its brewed in New England someplace and makes it up here. Is a nice dark ale (they call it an American Brown Ale). Really nice stuff.

If you live near a Claim Jumpers then go try their beer selection. Friend and I used to "travel the world" trying beers from their menu.

I know other bars and restaurants have similar selections and you can try more beers that way without possibly getting stuck with a 6 pack of some crap you hate.

I'm not really a beer drinker.. But when I go out for sushi one of those big heavy cans of Sapporo seems to taste pretty good. For beer, anyway..

At home I drink Becks Light. It's the only palatable light I've ever tasted.

Out, I drink whatever local brew is on tap, starting with the dark stuff, moving to amber, and ending up at the pils. Unless I'm eating Mexican food, then it's either XX dark or a clean, light ale.

Mippy

Shiner has expanded a LOT. Ziegenbock on the other hand is still only in Texas, hence their slogan "Only Texas gets it."

Ziegenbock is corporate swill brewed by A-B and marketed as if it were a rugged independent (like Shiner). And, other states "get it," just not under that name (it's Michelob Amber Bock under a different label).

I see Ziegenbock billboards saying things like "Making fun of puny states since 1845" and while they are referring to the state of Texas, they are trying to make the reader believe that Ziegenbock has been around since then.

Funny how A-B ripped Jim Koch in ads for being the "marketer of Samuel Adams" (inferring that Sam Adams used contract breweries to brew Sam) a few years back, then try to pull off an similar misdirection with Ziegenbock.

Kiltlifter (Novato Ca)
Blackhawk Stout (Mendocino Brewing CO.)
Red Seal (Lost Coast Brewery)
Felinfoel Double Dragon (UK, and OMFG)
Fullers ESB (on tap ONLY, bottles are ordinary, draft is exceptional)
Samuel Smiths Imperial Stout (UK)
Old Rasputin Stout (Lost Coast Brewery)

Not saying I prefer Ziegenbock. I actually prefer some of the imports I can get at B.B. Rovers here in Austin over it. Shiner is what I usually get that is "local" if I don't go to one of the local brewpubs.

One that suprised me was Warsteiner Dunkel. I didn't like Warsteiner, but my mom liked how it didn't have an aftertaste, and her partner liked dark beers. So I ended up having to try it. Not bad.

If I HAD to pick one favorite (which we have already had a thread for) it would be Berliner Weisse mit Schotz (sp)

Redhook was bought out by Bud long ago... it's everywhere

I prefer 23oz glasses of bud @ $2.45 apiece during happy hour at BWW's... but I am broke college student ;D

As far as good tasting stuff, I like belgian. Try blue moon with a slice of orange, it's a nice belgian white... but if you have mad duckets go the extra mile for some hoegaarden, it's the lac of belgian white! Belgian wheat is pretty good too, not as fruity but nice in it's own right. Pretty much every belgian I've had I liked, although admittedly my research funding has been a bit limited for the holidays.

Ah, the Belgian ales....

Duvel
Chimay
Piraat

or any other Belgian ales or Trappist ales are quite fine, but come with a hefty $$ tag...

I have absolutely no idea about their availability but if you haven't tried Theakston's Old Peculiar, Marston's Pedigree and Greene King IPA you haven't lived.

To the lagers mentioned here I'd add Red Stripe and give a third recommendation to Budvar.

Quite quite good sir, but have you ever laid out a bowl of applesauce on the kitchen counter until it begins to ferment, and then eaten it?

My monacle is getting all steamed up just thinking about it!
