The New UI & Logging in

OKay, dont know if there have been any posts like this and I'm too lazy to go through all of them to check.

Started enjoying the new UI, all the buttons, settings, position and stuff worked out. Then after a patch a while ago (think a few people are having this problem). I crash to desktop as I try and log into the character select screen (well my internet cuts out, but it only does it when i have the new UI on).

Tried deleting the UI files, but they just uploaded again and the same thing happened. Anyone know what the hell I'm to do? Any help is appreciated.

you can turn newUI off in your .ini file

I'm at work and don't remember how the line goes, but in defaults section there is something like newUI= true or on. Change it to OFF or False. Pray it helps.

I think his point was that he can't seem to get it working with the new UI.

If you are running the default UI, then I don't know what could be wrong.

As a suggestion (and I have no idea if this would work or not), I could offer the following solution:

Before patching, backup and then delete the UI_yourcharname_35.opt (or is it .ini?) file found in the /everquest/ directory. Repatch.

It's possible that what is creating problems isn't the XML files in your UI but rather the settings in the opt/ini file.

A suggestion, anyway

Open up Windows Explorer, switch to Detail view

Browse to your EQ/uifiles folder

Look in your custom ui folder, sort by date (make a backup copy of this folder just in case)

See the latest date? remember that

Open your default ui folder

Copy all files that are more recent than the most recent date from your custom ui files

Paste the files into your custom folder and let them overwrite

That is what worked for me at least.

good luck :)

I had this problem after the last patch. Even after I changed everything back to defaults in my .ini files, it still didn't work. I ended up just uninstalling and reinstalling EQ.

Cheeears!

Cheers for the help, will try it when I get home.
