SWG...

Post by masteen »

With the release date of the Star Wars MMORPG fast approaching, and our CS rapidly turning into complete shit (as opposed to "mostly shit" before they got rid of server specific GMs), I feel the need to start asking some questions of the Galaxies crew.

http://boards.station.sony.com/ubb/star ... 12860.html

I posted the questions that have bugged me about EQ's service for a long time, but I'm sure those of y'all who are more Ub4r than I have more.

I am hoping that many of the problems we have in EQ will not be present in SWG. They mentioned the elimination of time sinks for the most part but I think until we either get into the beta or the game is released will we ever truly know.

No matter how good the game mechanics are, the sheer quantity of people who are going to play guarantee a VERY high fucktard quotient. My main concerns about the CS staff isn't how they're gonna handle game-related bugs, but how they're gonna deal with all the gimps.

That's right, Raven. They started the initial stages of Beta a few weeks ago.

Yeah beta started July 15th but I think that was mainly the developers and a small core group doing the basics. They got the game on CD to send out to the 1st round beta people and they have been on it only a few weeks now. I am guessing the game will be out nearer to xmas.

About the time sinks. Games are indeed, time sinks in and of themselves but EQ has time sinks within time sinks. Consider things like waiting on Rage a time sink.

I just hope all the Veeshanites that play SWG tend to gravitate to one server. It got old quick trying to keep up with friends on different servers in DAoC.

Im not playing SWG. I wont sheerly because I made a vow to Verant in many many e-mails that I will never buy another verant product. I live all of 1 hour and 15 mins from verant's office, and am contemplating on actually bombing the damn place. But then, my better judgement comes in to play. If I were just a little more psychotic, and had one free amnesty... ooooohhhh

I have high hopes that Sigil is gonna put out a good product, and hopefully I will never have to buy a Verant product ever again.

SW:G will be great, don't you even try saying something else /em covers his ears and goes lalalalallalalalala. It's a totally different crew from totally different games and experiences and they have really high standards for the people they've hired. Graphic is simply amazing and ALL the ideas they have put forth has been great etc. I really like the overall game idea.

True, untill one sees the game yada yada and what the final product is, it doesn't mean shit, cause anyone can make screenshots look good, have some good ideas etc. But these developers really seem to know what the fuck they are talking about. Seeing that movie from E3 which was like, 2 1 - 2 ? years ago too really didn't make things better. If the game looked like that 1 - 2 years ago, it just HAS to be insane now. I've only heard good things from the beta testers so far too, even though it's only in beta one and pretty buggy.

Anyway, i refuse to belive such a game will end up trash, it simply cannot with such a huge fanbase as starwars has. They have to make it good, end of story. The game will be more individual / group oriented and NOT only about killing shit to 24/7 for xp or become ub3r.

This game has been peoples dreams for years, i know it has been mine, ever since i first saw the movies and played the first lucasart game etc i've always hoped for an online world where you could just ... live in a starwars world with ships, your own character and so forth. Granted, i was more into starwars before and it cooled off a bit before i started with EQ, but it's still there (jesus i sound like a fanatic nerd or something :P ).

I could write an essay about the game but i don't feel like it. I will buy and play this game no mather what, just because it's starwars and i will have faith in Lucasarts (even though they have released some pretty craptastic games lately).

One thing that I've seen from camping the discussion boards for this game over the last 9 months is that the Devs really seem to have a vision for the game. While they have been very open and forward with the community, they seem to realize that 90% of the crap on those boards is exactly that.

When they ask for input from the community, they listen, compare it to what they know can and can't be done, and come back with even better ideas.

What they have not done is give in to all the whining 10 year-old Jedi Knight fanbois who want this to be a larger-scale Jedi gankfest or the whining 12 year-old twitch gamers who want this to be a Q3A Bounty Hunter mod.

For a FPS MMORPG, I'd rather shoot arows instead of a laser gun.

I've pretty much decided against playing it because I don't have the time/incliniation to start another 3-4 year gaming experiance. As far as I'm concerned, I'll be playing EQ until they pull the plug. Ya never know though, if it's that good, I may give it a whirl.
