It's been a while, figured I'd run this one again.
Overall I still like it, too bad more people don't do Guk though. Beats what I've seen of PooP still.

Still like it, still enjoy it.

I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

I liked LDON when I first purchased it. I loved crawling thru the dungeon, constantly in danger of going OOM, completing the mission and then digging deeper for xp to see if anything else was around. Unfortunately that ended rather quickly. At level 65, I've found that in most groups the adventure is completed in 50min. or less. This would not be a problem, except most people would rather hop right back outside to spend four days trying to get a slaughter mission from the adventure recruiter rather than continue on for xp. So my aaxp tends to go rather slow thru this process. It flies quick as hell when I'm in the dungeon, no doubt, but when you're sitting outside for half an hour to 45min. re-buffing, being picky about adventures, or trying to find replacements, it tilts the scale towards the PoP zones for better xp.
There's nothing wrong with trying to get lots of points as their are quite a few nice items that can be purchased. However, the only thing I'm interested in is my spells which I can get with a handful of adventures. After that it's pretty much AA, as I'm a gimp chanter with mid-range gear. I"m not part of a huge raiding guild and I certainly don't have the connections for piggie-backing for flags. So with most decent equipment out of reach the only thing I can rely on is skill and decent aa selection.
This is why LDON has taken a backseat to be used as a last resort when I can't find a group elsewhere. I don't normally have a whole lot of time to play, but when I do it's typically in day long spurts and I like to try to get the most out of that time. I don't feel I'm doing that by playing 50min. and then sitting for an hour due to the reasons I stated above.

Oh, and your poet Eliot had it all wrong:

LDoN is EverQuest distilled. If that sounds positive to you, then you misunderstand me. What this expansion does is underline the complete pointlessness of what we're doing.
It is repetitive in the extreme. Every dungeon is the same. Every adventure is the same. Hard adventures are just routine if you have groupmembers that can find their own assholes, but what's worse is that there is nothing to shoot for, no sense of accomplishment. There's no sense of progression - completing a run of Miragul adventures doesn't qualify you to fight Miragul in person, clearing mmc 289 times still won't make you see Mayong himself and the lore which is supposed to be part of the reward is boring as hell and has no impact on the world.
Worst of all is the completely idiotic limitations on raids. Smarter and more well-spoken people than me have said it already: The enforced 36 person hardcap, the inability to rotate people in and out on 3-4 hour raids, the totally ridiculous deathlimits on some raids, the rewards that would have been good in Luclin (but still not appropriately tuned in RVR).
LDoN is a steaming pile of horseshit.

Ldon may be a stinking pile of horse shit for high level hard core gamers, it's been a blessing for most of casual 2-hour-per-session gamers in lower levels.
I love it for the ability to log on go lfg, play a little, get some loot and exp and log off. And not have to feel bad because I'm leaving the group and there's no replacement cleric in sight, so they're pretty much done too.
I find pick up groups enjoyable again, even if I happen to meet some inept people who seem not to understand basics and are missing half the spells because someone told them they're useless. It takes away from fun a bit but then you can switch into a teacher's mode and help them out a bit.

That's probably my favorite thing about it.Ennia wrote:I love it for the ability to log on go lfg, play a little, get some loot and exp and log off.
It also allows non-raiding folks to get some pretty nice gear. Probably the easiest path to some decent FT and atk items for non-VT+ folks.

Hrmm, so the fact that we collected 25/28 items in 40 mins, then failed the adventure and took another 15 mins after that to get the lesser reward is "working as intended" I guess. Fuck collection missions, forever. Just take them out.Archive...
Collection Missions - Updated Information 11/17/2003 11:39 am
First, I'd like to thank everyone that sent in information about their collection missions. We've used that information along with a lot of information generated from the servers to come up with a plan to get folks to do collection missions.
In fact, that change was already made. Given a chance to play with the modified collection missions, many of you have noticed that they are better. That was the best indication that we could hope for, that you'd notice they were fixed just by doing them.
So if you've been avoiding collection missions, give them a try. They should now provide similar challenge to any other mission type.

IMHO its pretty good. I dont adventure a ton cos I dont have a lot of free time, but I can and have met new people, which I usually enjoy. And its a good way to hang out with friends that I dont raid with.
Its repetative, but theres some decent gear for people that dont high end raid, and the XP in the hard adventures is good.
The cash loot in some of them is good.
The augs seem to have been reduced greatly in drop rate in the past week though. I was loving those augs, gimme PR

I still like it, and as much as i want to hate the leaderboards i like them too. the ability to mix all that crap and buy what you want to make a really shibby item with the stats that you want on it is a toit feature to have at your fingertips. whether you're making a brand new item or slapping an additional 40hp on some old stuff it's really quite nice.
