If you need more information, let me know. Anyways, the main problem is every time I try to play a FPS of any sort. Well, a new one atleast. My computer locks up. Or my monitor turns off and says H.V. Freqrency too high. No idea what that means so I am turning to you guys. Please help!

Thanks,
Ebu~

what resolution and refresh are you running your monitor in.

also: most lockups in games are sound related. turn hardware acceleration down 1 notch in dxdiag. make sure you arent using EAX in any game because it basically never works properly and crashes everything.

the second most common reason for lockups is faulty ram.

Start, All programs, accessories, command prompt, type: format c: /u and then press y!

Or, alternatively, you could modify the particular FPS to use a lower resolution, and perhaps a different refresh rate until it worked properly. I would guess that the problem is with the software, not your PC.

/sarcasm ON
Wrong forum and ummm.. I noticed the game was unnamed. It wouldn't be ILLEGAL SOFTWARE now would it? :P
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

According to the dump posted, he's running a dual 2.8Ghz P4 setup, w/ a Radeon 9800 Pro.

Fuck him, he can afford paid tech support :)

Similar setup to mine, P4-2.8 (HT causes it to appear as 2 processors Zaelath), 9600 pro

I had crashing problems for the first few days, then I finally found out it was bad ram.

Ebu go to http://www.memtest86.com and follow the directions and see if its your ram

Fixed it. Tweeked refreshrate, and turned down sound accelleration. Btw, Aran, I'm not a retard when it comes to computers at all, so that would not have got me. This just had me stumped beyond all belief, so I came here after messing around with it for like 2 days.

I did what you said, dure, and its not the RAM. It still happens now, but very rarely, I think it's just my onboard soundcard. I have never had good luck with onboard sound or NIC.

Thanks for the help guys!

I notcied your monitor is simply "plug n play". I had some problems with my radeon 9500 graphics card with an off-brand monitor doing similar things. It only happened trying to run a half life variant and then it would be hosed until I reinstalled the video drivers (and old ones at that). Sounds crazy, but check to see if there is any software to load for your monitor or try hooking up a good name brand monitor next time it happens to see if it resolves it.

Did you try turning off all the auto select things in DX and for your monitor? Video rate, sync, etc...

There should be a bios option to disable the onboard sound as well, if you think that's it.
