Does anyone know where Outlook keeps all the mail? I want to move them all from my old HD to my new one so I can format the old one, and it's the last thing I need.

Thanks

Use Search, having it show hidden files/folders.

Name_of_folder.dbx

Exporting it all to a .pst file and then re-importing it is your best bet. Things get screwy sometimes otherwise.

well it depends on your mail server. we run exchange, and the mail is also stored serverside.

Hopefully you're not confused by the difference between Outlook and Outlook Express, since some of the answers referred to the former, and some to the later... MS are twats for calling them the same thing (almost) anyway.

True, if you're on exchange, there's no need to do anything with your inbox, as it all should be serverside. Local folders are all you'd need to back up.

Local folders for Outlook 2000, XP, 2003, etc. are stored in *.pst files. For Outlook Express it's the *.dbx files.

I've never had a problem copying the .dbx files when I've upgraded etc...

The .pst files in outlook seem to be funky though. If export then import I get better\different results than if I copy them off and back in. My PoS compaq laptop self destructs (hw failures) about every 6-8 months, I get plenty of experience with it :(
