Anyone use this for gaming? Considering changing to it from XP, but only if I'm not going to encounter any wierd gaming problems after doing so.

Not doing it for any particual reason, I just like screwing around with different os's.

I've been seriously out of the tech loop over the last few months, but I seem to recall 2k3 being the replacement for 2k advanced server. If so, that's not necessarily the kind of platform you want to be running games on. While it just might work, save yourself the hassle and just stick with XP. If it got redesigned for a home/professional version as well, I've heard zero about it's capabilities, but it'll probably be just fine for gaming.

Pah is correct, there is no desktop version of windows 2003 at the moment. You really wouldn't want to add all the overhead of a server version of windows for little to no gain in gaming...

If you are a Sys Admin and want to learn it, I think it would be ok to put it on but it won't help you on gaming any. It's a lot faster than 2000 Server and comes in more flavors. The other big difference is almost everything is turned off rather than on when you install the server. Thus you don't have to spend as much time making sure it's secure. You just only turn on the services you want.

The MS version socket multiplier is still in full effect, we should be up around 12,000 (mostly undocumented) system calls on this one What a freaking mess.

Heh... I said AS much time didn't say it still didn't take a lot of time just that the fact many things are already turn off helps a little
