Dear Comcast Cable Internet Subscriber,
We're sorry but you're using too much of your unlimited internet service. Please stop. If we have to warn you again we will cancel your service. Thanks,
Comcast

PS.
Don't ask us how much is too much because we won't tell you.

I actually got a call from my ISP (roger's cable) at the end of the month when I downloaded basically all the episodes of Oz at 680 mb each. 8)

The first thing I said to him was "jeez I bet you have a thankless fucking job making all these calls" and then I proceeded to berate him about my ISP's "unlimited broadband internet" to which they just raised the price of the month previous in order to facilitate their customers in "providing the fastest unlimited broadband internet access in the country." I even told him to look at the word unlimited on the main page about 15 times if he didn't believe me.

He told me that my service was "unlimited, but to a point" wtf? Poor bastard; you could not fucking pay me enough to call people on the phone and argue an absurdity with them all day. He finally relented and just asked me to keep my usage down. I told him I usually don't use that much but I was downloading a lot and if Rogers had a problem with how much I was "abusing my unlimited broadband internet" then feel free to terminate my account and that I hoped they had an extremely good pack of lawyers. At least good enough to argue in civil court that unlimited actually means "quite a bit but not too much."

I used to work for an ISP and management had a list of 'trouble users.' These were people who used so much bandwidth that they cost more to have as customers than they were worth. I thought that was a little outrageous, but then they started contacting those users and telling them to cut it out or they'd cancel the account. I hated that company.

It turns out, when you sign up with an ISP, part of the agreement is that they can cancel your account at any time and for any reason. That reason may simply be that you aren't a profitable customer anymore. Shameful and dishonest, but legal nonetheless.

That's a fucking disgrace, never heard of any companies doing that over here. I pay for unlimited service and that's what i get. The shitstorm that would ensue if any company tried to limit people's unlimited access over here would be off the charts.

I think someone figured out that if you are logged in 24/7 for a month, it will use about 10 gigs of bandwidth. (with all the traders going on, that isn't unheard of that somoene be on every possible momment of a month).

Before I quit EQ, I would have my Bazaar gimp on pretty much 24/7, plus Kazaa Lite on my other machine downloading pr0n and music all day. I fucking guarantee that I'd be one of RoadRunner's "problem users" if I was still there.

If my unlimited DSL from Qwest ever gives me some shit like this, I'll cancel. I've been downloading some stuff lately and can hit 2-3 GB a day in traffic, but for what I pay for DSL every month and since I pay for the 'unlimited' level, not the cheapie level, I'd tell them off. I've only had 2-3 problems in 2 years, if they do this I'll go cable and get the cable internet + cable package and save money at the same time.

I have 256kbps upstream. Whee! beats the crappy one-way cable modem I had in my old residence. I don't think DSL providers look at usage like Cable providers do, being as it's (cable) shared bandwidth and all. Or something like that.
