Just as a warning....

Domino's has some cheeseteak pizza on special right now they plugged when I called up so I gave it a shot...

They pour all sorts of some dairy product liquid on top.....the box was not designed to contain liquid.

The liquid is dairy, more so then cheese....so if your lactose intolerant that's reason #2 to not get it.

And the liquid has onions and peppers floating in it.

Let's see half cup of dairy product with liquid pepper and onion stink....yeah my passenger seat is going to smell real fucking nice.

actually, that Papa John's thin crust is halfway decent....

uh they totally fucked yours up then, the one i had was fucking awesome and there wasn't enough of that sauce on there to be qualified as liquid. Its just like a cheese sauce, they have little strips of steak, green peppers and onions, its the best pizza i've tasted in awhile.

I'm drunk as a skunk right now, and I'd murder each and every one of you for one of those cheesesteak pizzas.

Two things.

1, Wooster Street pizza (Pepe's or Sally's) from New Haven fucking Connecticut is the absolute pwn over any and all pizza ever.

2, Any corporate chain "philly cheezesteak" thing is fucking awful. Had a "philly cheezesteak" sub at Quiznos the other day and it was the most repulsive thing I have had there...and guess what, they used the "dairy liquid" crap in place of cheese.

Quizno's is complete shit anyhow. The 10 bucks you end up spending on a toasted sub isn't even worth it.

One of the 3 beers I've ever tasted in my life... I had mine with a slice of orange in it and actually liked it. My roommate has been trying to encourage the beer drinker in me (cause its cheaper than all the mixed drinks I love ) and he loves Heinekin, but I remind him everytime that it smells like a combo of skunk spray and urine. Ewww.

There are a couple places in East Bay out here , Figgaro's , its a take'n'bake or they cook it , Best Pizza I've had in years. Also downtown Pleastanton Gay 90's Pizza= THE BOMB. Best EVER though is on or just outside Berkley campus , cant remember the name though

I worked at Mazzio's, Domino's, Pizza Hut, Pizza Time, and a little local place called Pizzaria during my teenage years up to like 21. Then I started making pizzas for an upscale Italian restaurant who made fresh pizza's from scratch, including the dough and the sauce, and used a brick wood-burning oven to cook them. That's a real pizza.

I can't stand chain pizza places and needless to say, have grown very sick of pizza. I still eat it every now and then though. Even though I'm a bartender now, I still go to the pizza station and make my own pizza, and let me tell you, I do a fantastic job!

Best pizza- use a combination of basil pesto and pizza sauce for the sauce. for toppings use spinach, roasted red bells, roasted garlic, chicken, onions or olives, goat cheese, mozz, and lots of parmesene. I don't like olives so I usually go with onions, some people like both. That pizza is fucking awesome. I love goat cheese.

It's funny getting off the ship in Italy, everyone runs to a pizza parlor and orders pizza and ends up disapointed. They think the origins of pizza is flat chain style Pizza hut. They don't call em pizza pies for nothing, you order pizza in Italy and you get a freaking meat pie, mmm.

Pepe's > Sally's since Sally died back in the late 70's or early 80's, my grandfather did the insurance on both those places. That is pizza and nothing with philly cheesesteak can be considered a pizza, sorry. I grew up in Guilford CT, I grew up on those pie's. There was always that same old lady at Pepe's behind the counter no matter what day you were there, she was ancient.

No that is absolutely not why, they just think all pizza is American style, most Americans have never even seen a real pizza pie. Even the most uninformed American can tell you where it came from.

Trust me Kyo, there are a ton of Americans out here that find processed "cheese food" vile. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure I have more choices of authentic international cuisines than in others could find in their country. Just because Nebraska isn't the Thai capital of america, doesn't mean you can't get it elsewhere.

And like I said it tasted good....just my passenger seat was a mess, and it for sure had some dairy in the sauce....because I hadn't eaten anything else but a granola bar and banana all day.

If you have a restaurant that people love, you did it right.

If you think you could open up another one...exactly the same and make money...go for it.

I like the fact I can fly to chicago...and drive down any decent size road and find someplace where I KNOW the restaurant. Sometimes you don't feel like gambling....your really hungry, it's late, everything is about to close...your in a hotel room and you WILL NOT get food elsewhere if you don't find something now.

Knowing that I can cruise into a olive garden or TGIfridays etc lets me control my stress level a little.

I know, thier quality is usually not as high as a good local family owned restaurant....but good local family owned restaurants are hard to find when your out of town on business.

Anyone who disses chain establisments has definately never travelled on a regular basis.

FYI the Penn Station here is prety decent, even though it's a chain. No it doesn't use the original Cheezwhiz.

Also don't diss american's cheesesteaks. Do you kow why they call it a Philly cheesesteak? I'll give you a hint...it wasn't invented in fucking canada. Nothing ever is.

Carraba's and Macaroni Grill, my staples when traveling. I wouldn't call either amazing, but both are decent and consistant.

The best pizza in my town comes from a place run by Polskas and Czechs. While their sauce is merely good, they use quality toppings, nice cheese, and their dough is FANFUCKINGTASTIC!

when I was in Mexico a couple weeks ago - there was a TGI Friday's right across the street from the hotel !!!!

Hey, I go up to people working at the hotel or ask my clients what is good locally fairly often. Sometimes even just people in the street.

I just can't ask a girl on a date.

Anyway, like Calandra said....sometimes you get out of a client at 8pm, your tired you were on a plane all last night. You still have to figure out how to get to the hotel etc...

And while you could ask the client....maybe you really don't want to talk to them anymore and your afraid they will ask you to come eat with them somewhere and they will talk business until 10pm now and you can't eat your freaking meal.

Your not to the hotel yet. You come out the front of the building and get in a cab....cab driver asks "where to boss?" And your reply is what? Your options are to ask for a chain you know of....or ask for the cab drivers opinion. Now I've asked cabbies for thier opinion before, sometimes they were right, sometimes they weren't.

But when you ask anyone anything about food you have to understand....people have different tastes...some people like coke, others pepsi..yadda yadda yadda. If you ask a complete stranger what is good, he will tell you what he thinks is good, not what you thinkis good. And maybe those will match, maybe they won't. Maybe it will suck real bad but his friend owns the place. The chances you get a good restaurant from a complete stranger are higher then just randomly guessing, but less consistant then a chain restaurant and it requires more work after a long day.

Anyway it's obvious Chidoro doesn't travel on business. Not that that's a bad thing, I wish I could avoid it myself.

It's simple, a restaurant's reputation will precede it. Got a handheld? Ever hear of vindigo? In addition, Zagat books can be purchased in any local drugstore in said city. It's so easy to find something worthwhile and fresh, it's not even funny. You are just content with lcd food. You are just too afraid to take chances on anything.

And by saying you don't travel on business I don't mean to say you have a shitty job....you could be have a job as a brain surgeon or rocket scientist, or a million other respectable occupations.

I just don't think you travel on business vey often. I remember one month where I was only home 4 days....and they were like saturdays when I came home to unpack, do laundry, and re-pack for a new destination. Now that wasn't that common...but 5 days a month was pretty common.

Sometimes your tired and not in the mood to hunt down a new place. An intelligent person could see that valid point and accept it as a logical reason for chain restaurants. But not you Chidoro...not you.

I agree with you that the best restaurants are typically not chain restaurants....I'll also point out that most bad restaurants don't get to be chains either. In otherwords quality from local places is less consistant.

And when your on the road....that's the worst time to be adventurous. You can't go home and grab some crackers because you didn't finish the shit they served. And even if it is a good place.....when is the next time your going to go there? It's like wasted effort...I'd rather be adventerous at home...learn MY area.

Also I should point out, food is just gas for humans. It's not something you should dwell on so much where your entire day revolves around putting food in your mouth. I don't spend an hour deciding what gas station to go to.

If you travel a lot, you should equip yourself with resources. Seriously, all it takes is five minutes. If you travel in predominantly rural areas, I'll let it go. Otherwise, it makes no sense. And this whole thing was about pizza joints. Seriously, how big a chance are you taking with a pizza place. Even the WORST mom & pop place is better than old reheated crap that pizza hut serves. I mean the "sauce" is pathetic, the cheese is old, and the dough is unfit for dog food. OMG, I GOT TO HAVE THAT CHEEZ IN TEH CRUST!1!!11!

Your analogy of food to gas is exactly why you are in the lcd for food. It takes almost zero effort to treat yourself to something that's far better and probably cheaper yet you don't want to bother or, sadly, you can't tell the difference.

It's other places where you end up getting seated and looking at the menu and see it's all asparagus this, mushroom that, salmon, trout etc..and everything is like $25 and up. And you already got a cab drove out there, waited for a table and sat down...

I mean if I *like* a client and I'm pretty sure he is going to be cool and not talk about work all night and end up adding more work to my plate, then by all means I'll ask him what's good locally, and I take thier advice, I actually like it if a cool client comes with me...because I don't like eating alone in restaurants (and the quieter the retaurant the worse it is).

The best meal I ever had was at some Jamacian restaurant right off times square. I got some sort of lime chicken. If anyone in NYC reads this, it was I think down the side street next to the MTV building (that's where I was stationed that week). It was maybe 2 blocks down really really small on the left side I think. That was a couple years ago though, restaurants in NYC normally last like 6 months.

You want a valid description of NYC pizza?

Larger then normal slices.
Thinner crust...but not "thin crust" like most chains have.
I think they brush the top with oil which is why it's so greasy.

Because of the size of the slice, thinness of the crust, and amount of grease dripping off, I prefer to fold it in half when I eat it.

That's NYC pizza from my standpoint.

Also if you knew NYC Chidoro, you would have gone "Oh yeah, I know about where that is" Not "half the city is there"...because NYC isn't 4 blocks big..it's a lot bigger than that. And that particular street, dosn't have much going on...it's big office buildings on each side, so the number of shops on the street level are not that many, because those office building entrances are obviously facing times square.
