I know there is a quest for custom helms, but does anyone know what zone this is in? Would greatly appriciate any help anyone could provide

Depends on you item and faction. The Thurg quest customizer is in a room to the left of the Dain's throne. The Skyshrine NPC is in the same room as the armour quest NPCs. Most of these NPCs when hailed, will tell you what they will customize.

Other point: if you are using the Luclin Models, you generally won't see a difference on custom vs non.

The guy for Kael Helms is in the room to the left of all the quest armor guys, in a room with Tormax faction mobs, so you have to have it or else Keldor and Frozenjesus will kill you when you open the door.

I just wish there was a way to uncustomize my helm.
I have a mind to delete the stupid looking dain hat and tell a GM it poofed, in hopes of getting an uncustomized one back.

Monks look even stupider with custom hats.
