This is a poll to see how many people, and if u feel like admitting it, how many times, u have lied or made up an excuse to raid or play EQ instead of going out on a date, or just drinking with your buddies, the POLL IS UP!!

When I played hardcore I did that fairly frequently. Yay for high end raiding.

Many a time!

Wow I hate EQ.

The better question is whether or not you passed up family gatherings/functions so that you could stay with a raid. You missed your child's birthday party, your sister's wedding, your mom's funeral (oh she died?) all in the name of raid loot.

how can you play eq and NOT lie to your friends? I've lied a few times, but just to miss going to a party or a movie. Nothing major like a wedding or funeral...

But i havent been presented with the choice...

I got people to take my shifts at work so I could play EQ.

I don't think I have ever lied to family, friends or loved ones.

I DO remember taking a "sick day" not long after I started playing and riding *the boat* and spending 5 flipping hours on the phone and online with CS after I repeatedly crashed while zoning back and forth.

I was ready to quit that day, I probably should have....umm, but I didn't.

Done it a few times to my friend, but I was always up front with her.

Friend: Want to go for a coffee?

Me: Can't... I'm killing dragons tonight.

:P

*edit* spelling... it's late and I've had an awful day.

Used to do that, lost a girlfriend over it... and I will never do it again.

Done it plenty of times, only for minor stuff though, wouldn't miss something really important for a raid.

A couple times. To friends only, not to loved ones tho.

Never. I've bailed out of all kinds of things early, or just didn't show up at all to avoid hearing the inevitable "Just stay another hour".

RL > EQ

i've always told people the truth, they laugh...but whatever. Usually it's "hey you wanna come over?" , "nah, you're boring""i'll be over in ten ,k?".See too honest...
When i first started playing i was way worse, though. Now RL>EQ defintely. Takes ya a while to get back into remembering it IS just a game.Addictive qualities have to wear off..

Generally I don't like social gatherings, family activities, or most of what goes on outside of my livingroom. I've only met one other person in my life that has felt the same way, and when we were roommates we had a ton of fun.

Hell yes I've lied, many times. To friends and family. What choice do they give me though? I caught no end of guilt trips before I started lying about it. And I'm not sorry one bit; it's my damned life to ruin as I please.

I've skipped stuff, but not had to lie about it.

A similar question, but reversed, would be "Have you ever lied to guildmates/in-game friends in order to do stuff IRL"? I imagine the results will be basically the same.

For the record, I've never had to lie about anything EQ related. I tell RL friends/family that I'm not interested if they want me to drop what I'm doing and attend a gathering, and I tell guildmates I'm logging as soon as friends arrive or something comes up that I would rather be doing.

I have a lot of friends and they "pop-in" on a regular basis. In that case, I gate and log within minutes.

I might have gone linkdead a couple of times when my fiancee walked into the room wearing nothing but a smile.. /innocent whistle

Well when I started playing it was because I moved to a new area and I was the boss in a small office so I couldn't make friends there. So I had noone to lie to.

But when I moved to this current location I found myself cancelling real life for raids quite often, I never lied about it though.

Then I saw how stupid that was and tried to avoid EQ certain nights I knew people would likely be wanting to hang out.

Then I quit EQ all together for many various reasons, this being one of them.

The better poll would be...how many days of work have you missed each year due to EQ? I would imagine all sick days were EQ related and most vaca days as well, fekin tossers~

Anyone who knows me well IRL knows I play EQ, screw around on the computer, and enjoy my home theater. Typically, if im playing EQ, I'm also surfing the net, watching a movie, sports or documentary, on the phone, whatever. I have no trouble telling a friend I'm playing a computer game and don't feel like hitting a bar or dinner, movie, etc.

Once a week out works well for me and my friends know it.

I don't totally agree with Winnow but I do have to say hanging out seems fairly repetitive...

I mean all anyone ever wants to do is go to the bar and while that is fun, if you do it more then once a week it gets old fast. Well for some reason my one group of friends never get tired of it heh.

I got like a weekly movie/dinner group together now.....but that leaves 5 nights open.

Still I'm thinking about a second job or EQ2 to fill in the blanks, I have every pay channel..and still there isn't shit on TV.

I wish people went white water rafting and such more often to add some spice.

i worked harder at work so that i could be in the position where i could make my own schedule around patch days and RL events ^^

and i wanted to blow off a funeral for eq once, but funerals are kinda gross when you don't really know the person in the casket...kinda feels weird

Posted: August 19, 2003, 4:26 pm
by Ajran
Yup i've blown off going out with some freinds for one thing or another but never lied to them about it.. They know me and my wife both play and that we would rather kill brain cells in front of the computer and NOT wake up with a hangover the next day..

I never took a sick day to play EQ. Or vacation day.

I also never lied to my guild about what I was logging out for.

Honesty is a very important quality.

Lied to Family. Lied to friends. Didn't answer the phone. Didn't change the cat box. Forgot to eat. Played instead of sex. Played after sex. Missed work. Gained like 30 pounds.

I want those two years of my life back goddammit.

Meanwhile, I'm getting a chubbie awaiting EQII's release and have started a noob account on EQ again.

No lesson's learned. Divorce to follow.

Seebs, if you weren't joking, I just want to say "hooray for honesty." This issue--"wasting" RL playing games or doing any indoor activity to excess at the expense of RL activities--has been a big one on my mind ever since I started playing EQ.

I understand that there is nothing healthy about doing anything in excess, and social experiences, especially outdoor ones that create great memories and build character and overall health, are probably one of the best persuits a person can have. Despite this, even after having experienced a great deal of such activities, I find staying home and playing games to be the most enjoyable time I've ever spent.

I usually combine friends and alcohol in the mix, or no friends and just alcohol. But my alcohol problem is a different issue altogether.

Anyway, I say "cheers" to your choice in sticking with gaming and getting a divorce. Oh, and if you can, stash all the cash you can before the divorce and go "pro se" (spelling?) so you don't have to use lawyers. Some of this last paragraph is meant tongue-in-cheek.

I'm on the 8 year graduation plan because of it.

I've avoided simple things such as a party and after a while, logged on EQ because nothing else was going on..

I however have never declined and rushed to the keyboard.

Anything I do that has the second hand effect of ruining your day is a bonus.
