Sitting here listening to Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force (first album). Unbelievable guitar virtuosity. Anyone know what ever happened to him?

He certainly is talented. However, his style was blase and kinda dated for the 'flare-guitar' era. Aside from honorable mentions in guitar mags and possible showings at the Ventura Theatre, he has probably faded into obscurity.

*DISCLAIMER* The guy is fucking unreal fast, but... if I want superdooper guitar shit, I will listen to Al Di Meola or Paco DeLucia. Now THOSE guys can rip it up. ;)

Yngwie has a new disc coming out soon here in the US. He has apparently had many over in Europe but got dropped from his American lable when the Grunge era hit. Rising Force was a unique and good listen but all his others pretty much sounded the same I think...

I would love to have one of those Fender Strats with the scalloped fretboards though...

A couple of years ago, he finished his symphony. I saw a DVD from Japan of him and a full orchestra in Japan performing. He would stand at the front of the stage and play his guitar. Rather an interesting show. A lot of his previous instrumentals were incorporated into this symphony. As with many other metal types, he has a huge following in Japan.

He used to be super fast and very clean. However, after his car accident, well over 10 years ago, his work became more sloppy the faster he went, at least that is how it sounded to me.

I saw him in concert back in 88 I think. Great show.

And Canelek, Al Di Meola is the man. I saw him around 1989 in a small club here in San Diego. Incredible show.
