Getting shot with a paintball gun hurts like hell. I could never shoot a naked woman with one. Well, until I saw how much they were making. I'd probably unload a whole gun on them after seeing that, lol.

I'd run around the desert naked and let women hunt me for free

Just remember after you bag one with a big rack, you usually take it home and mount it.

Personally I'm not sure I'd care to see the girl they interviewed running around naked.

a paintball shot doesn't hurt unless it's within 5 feet or so...then it starts to sting a little.

I'm a little biased when it comes to pain though.

Depends on the gun. Most of the fields here in FL have a max velocity of ~250 fps. I used to verify at the radar target, then crank the setting up in the field. My typical setting put the paint out at closer to 450 fps, which hurts as far out as 50 feet.

I also used to age my paintballs, so they were nice and hard. I sent more than one kiddie literally crying home to mommy

Yeah, we'd agree to turn the guns up a little in a 5 on 5 setting...for mass hysteria matches tho, 250 was more than enough, fuck...you'd shoot three balls and could hit 5 people on a busy saturday...(yes that's a hyperbole you semantic scavenging fucks)

I remember aged paint...the best thing about it was, there was a decent chance that it wouldn't break...so sure it'd sting, but you were still in ;) a friend used to buy a season's worth of paint, and keep it in the garage for next season, lol.

I remember playing early morning butt ass winter, and we would say the paint would 'freeze' just because it would get hard as hell in the cold...that's about the only time it sucked, that whole cold skin super sensitive thing going on...

I would say that you don't know wtf you're talkng about if you present that as fact. I've had broken skin from 15-20ft away in a powerball match before with regulation guns from a rental facility. You can clock modern guns to insane levels if you were so inclined.

Bruising, broken skin, and bleeding from paintball shots are common on any field from impressive distances. I remember being shot in the fucking ear from a good 100 yards out at the start of a round (lucky shot, I tell ya), and it brought tears to my eyes.

thats pretty fubared, if they got shot in the temple or eye or some other place in the head they could maybe die, and it wouldnt be too uncommon being like the 6-7 times ive played paintball ive been shot in the head quite a bit, sides a helment ive never worn any pads and some shots can hurt like hell

I remember last time i went this asshole 12ish year old kid froze his paintballs and shot my friend in the balls, he fell on the floor and started crying,

First a discussion of pain is relative, as it will differ from person to person :p

However, i'd say I do know wtf i'm talking about.

A little bruising? sure...but broken skin and bleeding? I was always covered head to toe, so I don't really see how skin could break. Also, how in the hell did you get shot in the ear? My visor covered my ears...and I wore a knit cap as well...wearing gloves is important...the back of the hand can be nasty if you don't keep it covered...

Granted, I have a rediculous tolerance for pain...but the worst I ever had was a relatively ugly bruise on my hip from about 24" (that's gun barrel to skin, not person to person) I dug myself in, he had to come over the barricade, i shot him, he shot me...

While I know it happens, I never broke skin, or bled...but I promise, i'm not talking out my ass.

Truant, i hear ya! :)

I know what the meaning "talking out of your ass" means, but i just spent a lil thought on that way of saying.

I am most certain you are not talking out of your ass, but what if people actually COULD talk out of their asses?

Wouldn't that be hilarious? :)

I actually chuckled a bit there thinking...or was it fantasizing?

Sorry Tru, i'm gettin real tired and when i get tired i tend to let my thoughts wander a bit! :D

When I was 13, my 21 neighbor did this and shot me in the back from 10 feet away with a $300 gun and felt like he almost broke my back, put a HUGE ass bruise on it and he freaked and ran back in his house and left me out there...when I finally got up (like 30 mins later) I went in, got my old baseball bat, went into his house and smashed the gun and hit my neighbor once with the bat...that made me feel better  .

Jesus Humphrey Christ. I don't even want to hear any of you speak ever again on paintball. All this speculation and absolute bullshit is irritating me to no end.

First, let me state that the type of gun and price tag on it has absolutely zero bearing on the velocity it will shoot. I can take a 1998 Bushmaster SI pump gun and jack it up into the 400+ FPS (feet per second) with no trouble.

Second, each paint ages differently. Some brands were known to get softer shells over time and actually shot better if they were old. Old paint usually got too brittle and would break too often to even consider shooting it. It is generally the really fresh paint that will not break. see below

Third, it is the balls that do not break that generally are the nastiest. The force does not disperse when the shell shatters and it can really leave a good welt.

Fourth, you can and will bleed by a ball fired up close with most brands of paint...even through clothes. If you were not pussies playing at 250 FPS, you would know what it should feel like getting hit with a ball.

Fifth, if you ever turned the velocity on your gun up on the field, then you are a fucking ass and not an intelligent one at that. It is extremely dangerous and you literally could blind or cause major injury to someone. I would beat your ass if i ever saw you do that while I was on a field. You also lose all accuracy once you get over the 300+ FPS mark as the spin imparted on the ball will fuck its trajectory up in a hurry.

I dont know a ton about it haha but I do know it hurts like fuck when your 13 and get shot by a frozen one from 10 feet away. Also, the price was in there to show that I got him back by blowing his $300 he spent on it.

My friends and I all use Tippman Custom 98 guns, and I'll usually bleed from a shot from one of those. However, we don't layer on the clothing, it's usually T-shirt / pants or even shorts sometimes, though shots in the legs seem to hurt the worst.

We use the highest tournament velocity, I'm not sure exactly what it is atm, it seems to have slipped my mind.

If your in a T-shirt you will get a welt/bruise, if it hits bare skin, you might bleed. If you wear more then that you will probably over heat unless it's in the winter....and then people wear so much clothes the balls bounce off most of the time.

I played a few times, I'm no expert...but I know this shit for fact. I've made people bleed, I shot some guy in the neck from maybe 20 feet and it bleed some....then he got pissed while we were all eating lunch and he emptied like 30 shots into my head from 8 feet away when I didn't have my gear on, he was a fuckhead. I shot him fair and square...you don't risk my fucking vision during lunch because you got hit good, I wasn't aiming for his neck I was aiming for his upper-back, but I had paint in the barrel and the spin caused it to visible curve the ball up.

Oh yeah and no matter what the guy at the painball store tells you....never ever take the ball hopper off check the gun for a ball, then press it against your palm to blow the paint out the vents. It will create a suction effect and you will end up with some decent pain and a ring shaped blood blister, possibly loss of feeling in your fingers for several days.

Don't ask me how I know that last part....let's just say a little bird told me ;-)

Fuck you, Kilmoll.

The paint we used got nice and hard (not brittle) after a season in the closet, and I didn't feel the need to switch brands, since all the fields took the same type.

My gun used to fire a nice flat trajectory at the speeds I used in the field. I also wasn't just retcheting my gun up to full power like a retard. I'd experimented with different speeds, and picked the best combination of accuracy and range.
I remember last time i went this asshole 12ish year old kid froze his paintballs and shot my friend in the balls, he fell on the floor and started crying
That's why I ALWAYS wore a cup.

Havent lived till you've played in the mountains, much more enjoyable not being around man made objects that tend to rather bothersome.

No comment on the stupidity of the article. When I used to play, I'd go down to Challenge Park south of Chicago area. They clock all customs coming in as you enter the fields (per game) to make sure you're within their regulation settings. Can't adjust it down to their spec, you can't play. You get caught adjusting up in the the field, you'll get your ass kicked out.

to qualify, since someone apparently stepped on kilmoll's dick...

I said 'Yeah, we'd agree to turn the guns up a little in a 5 on 5 setting'

as in, it was a private game on an open field, and we'd all turn a little...to get that little bit of reach...and notice, the word -agree-...not as in, turn up and plug some innocent fuck in a public speedball match

as far as aged paint...i don't know if i should bother because you're obviously god al-fucking-mighty of paintball...but the cheap brands our local shop carried would get hard and dimple...the paint would also 'settle' as someone called it...and it would travel like an egg...

Much like wine, aging paintballs need to be turned every once in a while to prevent settling :D

There is no qualifying to it....if you don't check the guns over a chronograph then you are seriously risking injury or possibly death in an extreme case. I don't take any of that crap lightly as I have seen enough first hand of what can happen to people. It highly pisses me off.

I have seen pretty much everything in 15 years of playing...from the outlaw fields to the NPPL and more than once I have seen it come to physical confrontations because of someone being a jackass. It can be bad enough just from normal clean play to get some nasty bleeding welts and I have even been knocked unconscious on 3 seperate occasions a few years back. Even had a scar on the side of my face for a year and half from where I had a ball peel the skin off in a perfect half moon. (in the old days we almost never wore full face masks or any face protection at all so you would have the chance to take what they called the $50k bounce).

Stragi, next time you see one jack a gun up you take a chrono to him and check it. If it hits at over 300 you have him kicked off the field and if it is 330+, you use the tank of the gun to knock his ass out old school style.

Cups suck. We used to wear a hand towel that we would stick into the waist band and let hang down to cover the jewels. It worked fairly well as the ball would hit that while it was hanging loose and loose all its steam before it hit you. Kept the paint from breaking on you and stopped the sack shot. Worst shot I ever took was when we were practicing on a speed ball type field with an inch of snow on the ground. I failed to notice that the bunker I was in had a 2 inch gap at the bottom. I was kneeling down and hammering a bunker downfield when someone had a low shot skip off the snow and it came up right into my sack. It got me square between both of the boys. It was the onyl time I have ever dropped my gun...as I fell out of my bunker and curled up. They pummeled me for a good 10 seconds before they realized I was not moving. Thank god for that cold cold snow.

Funniest thing I ever saw was when one of my old roomates took an inadverdant beating. When we had practices, the custom was usually for us to ref ourselves, except that a lot of us played really dirty and you had to have someone go in and yank them out during practice. My roomate took a goggle shot and caled himself, then dropped his gear off on the sidelines to go and start reffing the rest of the game. H had taken his cock rag off to wipe the goggles and went to check one of the dirtiest players I have ever known (who I had hit and knew he was hit and was screaming for someone to check him). When my roomate stepped around the bunker, the guy thought it was someone that was coming to bunker him and he pulled the trigger on him....putting 2 shots from a foot directly into my roomates sack. I had seen him going to check but didn't see the result.....but I did see someone on the ground that looked like they were crawling....so I let the guy to my left know that there was a crawler.

We lit into the guy crawling and he flipped over and had his back turned to us but never called himself out. So we continued beating him directly in the only thing he was showing us.....his ass. I know we each put a half a hopper into him (about 200 shots altogether) and if his sphincter was a bullseye, then we were 10-ringing him. When we finally stopped, he struggled to his feet and flipped us off and staggered off the field. It had been my roomate on the ground in pain from the sack shot. I was laughing so hard I couldn't even finish. He insisted on showing us later what we had done to him....he was actually bleeding from the sack shots and he had welts all over his ass...including several actually in his ass crack. I don't think i have ever seen him play without a cock rag or some type of cup since then.

BTW....the best protection for that if they don't allow the cock rag is to get baseball sliding shorts and cut a 2" thick piece of soft foam to put in instead of a hard cup. It is a hell of a lot more comfortable and the balls will bounce.

I think speed is also a factor of the field size and typical engagement range. I used to play the larger fields that were basically just fenced off Florida brush. Good visibility (over 100 feet) in most spots, so we were lobbing paint at each other from good distances away.

I always found "speedball" very gay, and most of the man-made fields were so small it was just a dozen people splattering barricades for 10 minutes, no hunt, no strategy.

I used to love the tension of creeping through the brush. The rush of that initial engagement was awesome.
