SWG poll...

Not really looking to rehash the pros and cons of SWG, but I am curious how many of you have purchased it, or plan to purchase it in the future.
If you'd like to comment on how you voted feel free to do so. I'd be curious to see what affected your purchasing decision.
For my part, I have no plans to purchase it, and my reasoning is the experience I had while participating in the 2nd and 3rd betas.
Thanks.

Not going to purchase. My computah locked up the entire time in beta. Though the graphics are nice, I personally didn't find the gameplay enjoyable.
Good Christian what?

Almost bought it Friday on a trip to ebgames. Chickened out at the last minute and bought new xbox games instead.
ebgames had 2 regular edition boxes and about 10 collector's edition. Doesn't look like many are willing to fork over 80 bucks.

I purchaced it the day it came out.
It has performed well, and I am having a good time playing it. I likely won't be hardcore with it, just using it to relieve some disapointment in EQ as a distraction.
Honestly though, it is very fun. I have not experienced any of the problems I heard about Beta. It is a new game, can be choppy in crowded areas, but over all it provides great fun.

I may consider purchasing in it the future, it sounds like there's a lot of problems that need working out, and I want to see what peoples opinions are of it after a few months. I've wasted too much money in the past on sucky MMORPGs, ie DAOC which I played for a week and Asheron's Call 2 which I played for all of 3 hours. Plus I'm apprehensive about buying another SOE product, I'm mainly concerned about massive timesinks and shitty CS.

There seemed to be a lot left to work out before the actual release date. Hell, I played almost hardcore the weekend before release with my roommate, and there was one point where you could NOT gain certain skills. You would gain the skill of the first similar item you had in your inventory. While they fixed this, there were many more problems. Personally I could see buying it down the road, but I have too many other things going on right now to even give a date on when I will do it.

Aranuil, there was a post on SWG where xanupox described it quite perfectly.
I dont enjoy it, too dull. Combat really sucks, and im not a big fan of building, or dancing.... *grumble* so .. yeah.. i dont like it.

Yes Topper, I agree, and I also posted to that thread.
This thread is more of a marketing survey of sorts. I'm trying to find out who did or didn't purchase it and their reasoning. I wish more people were stating why they
didn't buy it.
I remember when UO, EQ, AC, DAoC, and to a lesser extent AO came out, people were buying it the day of release. Have we all become jaded?
Is the information available better? Are we bored of MMOGs? Are we tired of SOE? What's the motivating factor to not purchase this game?

I think a little of all of the above, Oh Tealicious One.
- The information leaked through the Betas was that the gameplay needed a lot of work, and while we might not all have great sources, the rumours were wide spread enough that we paid some attention.
- I think a lot of people have some trepidation of SOE because of issues we have encountered with EQ. Whether entirely valid/realistic or not, people maintain that opinion.
- I think we have all seen how time intensive MMOGs can be with EQ and are hesitant about being in a position where we may end up committing that time again.
- Additionally for me, I see the Star Wars Label and I think about the target audience. I think about how wild my young nephews are about Star Wars and while I love the little buggers, at 5 and 8 yrs old they aren't the type of people I want to try and game with for any period of time... and you know damned well that there will be kids playing this b/c of the name alone.

Are we tired of SOE?
Yep.
That and the driving force for me to play any game is the friends that get me into it. I'll probably follow them to the next game. Which might be WoW.

I agree that this is the reason that a lot of people try MMOG's in the first place, but the lure of the server community keeps them there. When a new game comes out, they try it because they like the genre, but the community is not there so they end up coming back to the community they are comfortable with. If the issue was game content, EQ wouldn't still be going this strong after so many years.
Until the original community is destroyed, these types of people will not flock to the new games for good. Case in point, when I played SubSpace (which would be an amazingly dull game aside from the community factor), I played up to the day that Virgin killed their servers.
Not everyone that plays EQ, etc. fit this description, but I would hazard a guess that a majority of players are not die-hard RPG'ers that hop to the "next big thing" all the time.
That being said, I beta-3'ed SWG...it had some neat features, but I didn't find any content that was absolutely captivating, so I don't intend to ever play it.

No. ever.
I'm so tired of Star Wars. Honestly, I'm anxiously awaiting the third movie to come out.......so we can finally be through with the shit.
The next MMOG I play will not be an SoE game. Not that I'm perma boycotting SoE, I'm just tired of the way they do things. So there's a chance I'd go to another SoE game, but I'd play something else in between.
I never really, ever had interest in SWG though.

No Shit! I just want the 3rd one to come out as well...and see how big of a pile of shit it comes out to be, and I can shake my fist at George Lucas for taking classic trilogy, and turning into a badly-acted & bad written piece of shit. Fuck George Lucas, and fuck Star Wars.
Now, if you went back before Episode I came out, no way would I ever think such a thing.....

Everything I hear about it is bad. I wasn't gonna buy it anyway, but certainly won't now that I've heard it sucks.

Ditto.
Some people were creaming their jeans that Koster was on board while I thought that UO was a steaming pile.
So you got a universe I could really care less about, the potential player base to be at an all time low, and a man at the helm that doesn't know the first thing about what is fun about games in general.

I can't see myself ever playing this game. It's too "sci-fi" for my taste. I prefer the fantasy type games, so I'm going to wait for WoW.
I doubt very much that I'll be buying another SoE game in the future.

I thought it was boring during Beta. Furthermore, I have no intent of ever playing a MMORPG that has so many issues at launch. It's not worth the time or money.

Wow - very amazing poll results, given what kind of buzz this game had back when it was still just a concept.

I bought it day of release. I play almost every day but not nearly to the degree and severity that I played EQ. I'll try to keep this short b/c I want to log on and play!
Basically, it is my opinion that EQ was/is the best MMO I have ever seen until now. Many people who claim to hate SOE and vilify the company still play EQ incessantly. The fact is that a company cannot make an online RPG that doesn't include a "grind" (time spent leveling up) for the players and still be successful. I realized up front that there would be a lot of grind in this game because of what I experienced in EQ. I don't know about time sinks in SWG because it is too new.
SWG is a better game than EQ for a variety of reasons that I won't bother listing. The game does have a lot that needs to be worked on, but I suspect the premature release was the doing of the marketing department and not the developers.
