HELP!!!!!

Hope that got your attention.

Ok back to more needing help with this multiple connection.

I went out and bought a cross over cable, a Linksys 10/100 lan card.

I installed the card in the 2nd computer (running win 98), then connected the cable to both cards (not sure what is in the newer machine - running win ME).

I ran the install on the drivers on the old machine, rebooted.

Then on the newer machine, I went to control panel, selected network, clicked on the TCP/IP thing in the configuration tab and hit properties.

Under that I have 3 tabs - Binding/Advanced/DNS configuration.

Under DNS configuration I put "Dalur" under Host, and left the domain blank.

Under DNS search order I put in - 10.0.0.1 then did ok. Then I clicked on the file and print sharing bar and said to enable file sharing.

Then it went through some driver rebuild and then I had to reboot.

I went to the 2nd machine and to control panel and network. I clicked on the TCP/IP tab and properties. There I put 10.0.02 under the IP address and 255.255.255.0 under the subnet mask.

What do I do now? How do I get a browser on the 2nd computer? I assume I dial up normally on the main host computer and then connect in somehow with the 2nd computer.

Please try to be as precise as possible when describing the next steps as I have no clue to the tech stuff most of you know.

Thanks

Need a gateway to get outside. for you, it's 10.0.0.1 as the first machine is the one dialing out correct?

Yes

I set up the DNS thing on the computer doing the dialing out as 10.0.0.1

you don't want to specify a DNS

your machine at 10.0.0.1 is not running DNS. It is the Gateway for 10.0.0.2

i would select "dont specify DNS" for the 10.0.0.2 machine, but if you want to you can use your ISP's DNS server. You'll have to get the IP for that.

You will have to enable Internet Connection Sharing on the computer that connects to the internet.

Use linux :P

OR use a software router :)

for EQ, a lot of the software routers suck. Wingate and sygate dont give as reliable performance as ICS believe it or not from my experience

sure linux is best, but that is not an option here :p
