im curious as to how many of you are musicians?

ive been playing music since i was a wee lad, was teaching professionally for the last 10 years(guitar/piano/bass teacher), but got tired of babysitting rich kids

last few music projects ive been involved in i was playing drums/electronic craziness ( http://www.carrionsound.com , http://www.anti-theory.com/soundart as reference ), my current project(still shy on people, its only me and a friend atm) is me working on guitar/electronics,

its kind of experimental blend of sonic youth, radiohead, refused, i guess as major influences, with a heavy dose of 21st century compositional/philosophical ideas

other htan that, ive played drums/bass/guitar, and have studied piano/guitar for many many years in college/university+ settings

I like to thing of myself as a musician - vocalist / pianist with a little skill on the guitar and the bass thrown in. I mainly write music these days, but I'm struggling to get my ass in gear and study hard enough to get into the Royal Conservatory of Music here in Copenhagen. I do a lot of vocal arrangements for different singing groups / choirs, would like to do more of that.

Been playing the piano for the past, oh, 18 years, been singing for 15 and been (unsuccessfully) trying to make a living from it for the past 8.

thats great, i was really into studying composition when i was in school, but ended up quitting it as i felt it was real counter productive, mainly becuase i was into 20cet music, which is like 1/10th of what you learn in school, even tho it comprises more changes in thought/performance than anything prior, so i ended up dropping it and going into individual study if oyu will, just buying tons of books/cds, listening, and talking on message boards etc..

Been playing guitar for about 5-6 years. A couple years back a friend of mine introduced to me to two other guys, and we started a band. I've had a lot of fun playing. It's a shame we don't really play that much anymore. Just jam now and then.

If it weren't for the band though, I'd have never gotten into EQ, since they were the ones that dragged me into this game. I remember back when they were getting back into EQ, I would be standing behind them saying, "no way will I ever play a game that you have to pay every month for! I'll stick to Diablo 2"....

Last time a wrote something was awhile ago. My bro-in-law has his own recording studio and we came up with something. Was pretty rough, but fun.

i have played guitar for about 15 years. Took a couple of classical courses in college, but otherwise self taught. I"m not somebody you would hear play and be like "damn he's fucking good", but certainly good enough for my own enjoyment

Been playing guitar for about 18 years (bass about the same amount of time), piano for about 5, and drums for about 6 years. I've played in a dozen or so bands, but I'm not currently playing in one. I'm kinda trying to work on my own stuff. The last band I was in had kind of a Braid/Firebird Band kind of sound.

Me and my brother share gear so we have a ton. The gear consists of a 1976 Les Paul Custom, American Standard Strat and Tele, a Robin (can't remeber the model, I never play it anyway) a p.o.s. ESP, a Yamaha Dreadnaught Acoustic and a Takamine Cutaway Nylon. I also have a fender jazz bass and a crappy squire.

The amps we have are a Mesa Triple Rec, Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, an old Sears Silvertone, Eden Electronics Nemesis and an Ampeg SVT4 Pro. We're in the process of buying a Vox AC30 as well. The cool thing is my brother builds custom pedals, so as far as effects the list could go on for days.

the homemade shit is truly amazing, i have a bunhc of custom/modified/homemade pedals/electronics made by these um, i guess communist company out in cali, think theyre called 3ms pedals, great stuff, very progressive business policy too, but the pedals are fucking insane, i have this noise swash, its basically an out of this world distortion unit, that has an option for self oscilation(so you can play it by itself as an instrument), the sounds this thing is able to produce is nothing short of astounding

my main guitar is a steinberger GM model(i think thats the one), the half body type, used ot play thro a mesa dual rectifier but had to sell the head, still have the cabinet but now i use a digitech 2112(ok sound) and a shitty mosvalve PA, also use an oberheim echoplex tons in recording/performances, my main bass is a carvis 6string fretless, i also use this cheapy yahama electric i bought, pulled the frets out of, and had a metal fretboard installed quite a bit

dont remember what brand my drumset is, its that kind of deal, i have pots/pans(literally) hanging form it all over the place, broken/borrowed cymbals and what not

I've been activly playing the guitar and drums for about 15 years. Just recently picked up the bass and I'm enjoying every minute of playing. I play in a lot of bands ranging from traditional heavy metal to Nintendo Entertainment System classics like Super Mario Bros and Zelda to jazzy fusion projects.

I own a pearl master series drum kit, an Ibanez RG 550 (USA), Gibson SG, Fender Jazz bass and I'm damn proud of 'em. I use peavey amps and digitech effecs and the sound is ok. Future investments will probably be a strat and a mesa boogie amp for the guitars.

I just checked out the 3ms pedal site. Looks like they have a bunch of cool shit. I'll ask my brother when he gets back from vacation if he's ever heard of them. I listened to clips of that noise swash, that's totally kick ass.

I gotta show him your site too... he does the same kinda stuff with electronics as you guys do, like modifying speak and spells and all that..

yeah those 3ms guys are great, i have a modified/tweaked noiseswash, a triwave picogenerated(also modded), and this bigass multi purpose control unit for all the 3ms shit, all my 3ms pedals have 1/4" jacks for some of the juicer controls, i can hook up whatever i want to this control unit, and control the parameters via knobs, body contacts, or LCDs for light control or any combination therein

i just really like the fact that they hvae the schematics/directions on the webpages, and they barter for stuff, not to mention the fact they have great forward looking designs

I have played guitar since 1988 or so. I had lessons from various teachers w/diferent styles over the years, but I learn most on my own. I took a 5-year hiatus until recently...mostly due to my frustration with trying to teach myself jazz improv. Now, I have a total rush from playing....no influences, no stress.

I guess i could say i am a muscian, but not close to being a professional.

I just enjoy playing on my guitars, hammering on my friends drum sets or just sing once in a while.

Been playing for the last 10 years on and off, I learn most of what i know from "ear" or internet tablatures or even internet tutorials on strumming patterns, tuning or actual chord shapes/.

Been playing drums for about 6 to 7 years on and off. I never took lessons I learned just but listening to music. I'm pretty good I think but I get sloppy sometimes. I did the band thing but I don't feel my skills are good enough to play in front of people.

One of these days I will buy a new kit and take some lessons and maybe start playing in a band again.

I've made some pretty badass tunes on MTV Music generator for the pC !

Used to make a marginal living playing/writing/singing...Now I do it mostly for myself...

My Dad played guitar. When I was like 8 I got an acoustic for x-mas. I took lessons for like a month and got bored. Started really playing when I was 15 I think. Played in bands till I was 20, then didn't do anything for quite a while. Finally got back into a band last year and can't get enough.. heh There is absolutely *nothing* that I can think of that makes me feel the way I feel in front of people on a stage, playing music I had a hand in creating.

Play guitar/sing. I used to do both those for a band, but that was back in highschool and since then I haven't had a desire to get back into the whole band thing. I'm too much of a control freak when it comes to my music. I also mess around with fruityloops/acidpro but I typically only use these for laying down drum tracks.

jeez, put me on the 15 year guitar band wagon. Started at 13. Dabble in bass, but that's about it. Thinking about starting/joining a band real soon - something I should have done a long time ago as I haven't been in a regular band since high school. I studied basic theory, but still don't know how to read music (well - I can, it just takes me awhile). I'm more of a natural keen-ear kind of person, and it works fine for me!

Bands can be fun as hell, I'd say do it if you can.. I don't know what it's like where you live, but there is a great local music scene here. Last night (wednesday) there were like 300 people out at a show at a bar. Not too bad if you ask me..

I can read music for trumpet, but never got around to learning to read for guitar.. I've pretty much always played by ear too.

Friend of mine that I was in a band with in high school lives in Seattle now and plays in a cover band called Metal Boyz (yeh LOL) http://www.metalboyz.com/

There is a great website here in Indy that has done a ton for the local music scene, every city needs one http://www.indianapolismusic.net Good stuff..

I play clarinet, alto clarinet (my very favorite), alto saxaphone, flute, and piano (not very well though!). I'm learning guitar, very very slowly.. (read: i'm a lazy bum and don't practice as often as I should).

Started out playing saxophone and studying jazz through highschool and a bit of college. Added piano, flute, and guitar during that time.

Now it's guitar and sing, and if I could get a keyboard, would keep the piano going. Been in and out of a few small bands...and would actually like to do that again.

I've been playing guitar for 4 1/2 years. I also compose progressive math-rock and am hoping to finish my writing first album some time in October and finish recording it some time between October and December for my Berklee submission. Its actually pretty challenging stuff, but I'm up for a challenge. I play mostly Dream Theater/Liquid Tension stuff when i practice and listen to a lot of classical music as well. I also read classical pieces written for piano and also write and arrange music for the jazz band at my high school. I'll see if I can get the album on the internet when it's done.

I've been playing bass for ummm 7 1/2 years now. After getting lessons on theory blah blah blah. Influences include (pardon spelling on names)Allon Carron, Michael Manring, Jaco Pastorius.
