Thrice - I don't get it

Quite a few of my friends who I've always held similar musical interests with have fallen in love with this band.
Frankly, I don't get it.
The other day in reading a music review I came across the term "Screamo." Thrice is most definitely screamo. I've given them a try, really. I actually like the parts of the songs where he SINGS a good deal. I like the lyrics. But then he does the stupid screaming/yelling and it just sounds silly to me. My friends say the screaming is "emotional." Yea, ok. Plenty of bands before screamo conveyed emotion through their lyrics and musical talent rather than having to just YELL THE WORDS REALLY LOUD. What am I missing here?

I'm i a similar situation with 50 Cent. I just don't get it. They don't sound unique at all IMO, yet they're getting rave reviews everywhere I read.

Hehe, if Emo wasn't bad enough, we now have 'Screamo'.
I can't say that I've heard anything by 'Thrice' but it sounds like they are trying too hard to be 'unique'. Certain styles are a natural mix but I can't quite grasp how emo and screaming could mesh into anything that isn't unintentionally humorous.

Presonally, i kinda like the yelling.
And the term Screamo is a new trend indeed.
OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of bands have like 2 or 3 singers and 1 sings a clean voice, other screams and another one just does back vocals sort of thing...
I don't know i just like Thrice in the way his voice comes out all powerfull and emotional when he screams.
But I do understand people who don't like the screaming, i guess it is just a matter of taste
We could say that this new type of music is rather a mix between punk and hardcore... Thus why some people have also come up with this new term to classify them as "Post-Hardcore"...

And my voice cracks
When i sing from my heart
Guess that's the price
I gotta pay to know that I'm alive
this melody is tearing me apart.

They aren't unique, Grade and Cave-In (when they were hardcore) did the same thing like 4 years ago. My personal opinion is that if you are gonna play emo fine, if you are gonna play hardcore fine, but don't mix the two cause it sounds like crap.

Hardcore metal these days have gone the way of scream. I don't mind it to much. Some of the stuff out there kicks ass.
I listen to some good metal bands and if u want to find out info on some go to these sites.

Anyone ever heard of a band Uphill Battle? I saw them open up for Mastodon a while back, they kicked major ass. Their drummer is amazing....
