Actually, I don't really care about DJ's. If the music is good (enough) than I will listen to it.

all the h8 for the electronic stuff
I like DJs, but mostly hip hop ones....
as far as trance goes I like Orbital a lot, especially the In Sides double CD and Middle of Nowhere.
edit: spelling and I'd like to add that this is a music forum, and you should speak about whatever music you wish to.

Well, this depends on what you actually mean by DJ's. Are you referring to specific DJ's in Clubs or DJ's in general that either have a label or release their own music. OR are you talking about Dance music in general (which could include groups)
If you want to hear the most original mixes, look for white labels. Those are the limited edition Vinyl that MOST DJ's will not have access to unless they are very lucky (we're talking only 500-2500 copies total made).
I am all for original mixes which will come from more independant DJ's...the people with no label that happen to be lucky enough to get someone to press a few Vinyl's for them to get some exposure. Beleive me, when you play a well done white, people DO ask what mix you are playing.
I had asked someone a while back how I can dump my playlist in Winamp3 to a txt or html file and I would be happy to list what I have accumulated from friends and other DJ's. Recording and using Vinyl on CDs isn't the same as the real thing, but it's better than a lot of the crappy mixes you will find online....
Getting to the point I guess.
Club/Party DJ - - DJ Morgan
Club/Label DJ - - DJ Keoki
Concert/Label DJ(Group) - - Warp Brothers

all of the above.
if you want really polished mainstream stuff, and really good stuff imo Global Underground is prolly the best label to check out. Moonshine Records has some good talent as well.
Seb Fontaine has been putting out some really sick stuff as of late. His funkiness that blurs the line between house and trance is what i think has been drawing me to his stuff.
There is always John Digweed, Sasha, the godfather Paul Oakenfold. Those guys are great at what they mix, especially Sasha/Digweed collabs. Paul Oakenfold is really tired to me.
OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of the moonshine stuff which has some moontribe artists on it has less of the commercial pop star feel to it.
here is a list of what i listen to. if anyone who listens to this stuff knows any must listens. please add. Im tired of searching heh
brad
trevor
timo maas
doc martin
sasha
digweed
christopher lawrence
sandra collins
micro
dj dan
seb fontaine
thomas michael
eyal
dj tiesto
these are just some of the djs i listen to.
the range is house, trance, desert tance..etc etc.
mostly id like to get into some more funky house.
Mainly i wanted to see what other people were listening to, so i could get some fresh ideas... I am also looking for the stuff you were talking about boog. more original never heard of stuff.

DJs and house music aren't exactly condusive to disucssion, nor is it condusive to listen to in anything other than a club setting.
I was weaned on the NY garage scene in the late 80s.
I went to far too many 'raves' in the early 90s.
I saw too many sunday morning sunrises with the tunes of Tenaglia, Van Helden, Vasquez, Sanchez and MAW still bouncing around in my head.
As for Seb Fontaine, he's a little too mainstream for my tastes but hes a competent DJ that can read the crowd and fill the floor. His popularity can attest to that. The exact same can be said of most 'big' DJs... like Oakenfold or Digweed back in their day.
It's essentially the same as discussing pop music as it's more about image and marketing than talent.

I dig the Ninjatune collective for their DJ efforts. They really make the decks an extra instrument. Saw them in a tent in 96 playing live (instruments) with 4 decks/2 DJs and that was VERY cool.
They deserve far more props than these overpaid superstar fewls. 30 grand a night to match beats. Wuwu.
I'm with Miir to an extent. Discussing DJs is like asking who's the best conductor when you should be talking about teh symphones

Ninjatune put out some cracking compilations in the 90s.
I saw a few of the DJ Food and Coldcut shows back then... very innovative.
I've always liked 'studio' bands that could put on an entertaining live show. Two of my favorites were Lamb And Roni Size (Reprazent). Both had live drummers and stand up bass meshed with electronics. I've seen Lamb twice live and they are one of the best live band I have ever seen.. period.

Not when you are trying to find good sets to listen to. Goping to friends is the way to finding the good stuff Just becuase you are so far more experienced and finished the internet unlike the rest of us, does not mean we cant discuss it.
Without discussion how would have i known that you were in the NY scene. I too have been to my fill of raves and parties, in LA, mostly Moontribe.
Miir, i was searching for new trance/house music, which is music i enjoy listening to. How do i find it other than come here! Believe it or not i vaule the opinion here, EVEN YOURS, heh.

Um, relax man.
I wasn't trying to be an ass or anything.
It's just that discussing DJs really isn't a very interesting topic.
If you are looking for good new house/trance stuff, why didn't you just ask that? There are loads of good UK sites for that scene. I'll try to look some up later and post em.
In answer to your original question.
Favorite DJs.
Danny Tenaglia back in 97/98 for his stamina and his ability to bounce between genres without blinking. His 12+ hour sets were legendary.
Roger Sanchez (same era) for his floor cramming sets. The only DJ who could keep me on the floor for 4 hours straight.

I picked up the new Tiesto double CD lately. It is pretty good. Then again, I usually like his work. I also like Christopher Lawrence as well.

Craig Richards and Lee Burridge (Essential Mix)
Mark Farina
Also, for international dance music (a change of pace, even):

Yup, my roommate used to be into the rave thing. I've picked up a familiarity with some techno and suprisingly it grew on me. DJ Irene is fun
On a sidenote: My latest techno moment was this, we went to a friends house, partied a bit and the next night I lay in my bed trying unsuccessfully to sleep. I'm laying there bobbing my head to the beat, going through different songs, like my own little playlist. 20 mins or so pass and boy was I freaked out when I realized there was no music playing it was still in my head 24+ hours later

Well, it never took the drugs to get me goin at raves, but then again either runnin the tables or lights were enough to get me into it
Hell, some nights I sleep with the Hard House station from the site I mentioned above playing.

Tiesto is by far my favorite.
I have a nearly 4 hour concert he did in Holland in MP3 format that's just incredible.

If anyone wants it, or knows a place where I can host it, let me know.
I got it from a UK Bit Torrent site that was up for like... 1 day, but it's gone now.

Simon Posford aka Hallucinogen, The other half of Shpongle the inifinity project and many many more... quite an unreal man, i urge you to download Shpongle - Behind closed eyelids, wich is a fucking masterpeice, and the 1200 mics album wich is quite possibly one of the best Trance albums ever made.
