which one is the spikey haired white kid? I like him.

but on the first or second episode when the black dude sang, I said to my friend, he is going to go all the way in this show, because that guy sings like an angel.

but I like the spikey haired kid.

I haven't been following it though. I just liked the first 3 episodes where they culled the herd and I will watch the last one to see who wins.

Which one is the soulful African American guy? If it's Rueben that's who I voted for.

Rueben's Aunt works at my office. If I see one more sticker, button, poster or T-Shirt that says "Go Rueben" I am going to scream. ](*,)

This show is bullshit and all the winners will get is a 1 hit woder, if that.
American Idol is not about music at all, it may be about a good voice, but beyond that there is very very little talent. If they actually sought out garage bands and such they could find a good voicce, good *creative* lyricists and good supposrting musicians.

OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of people have good voices, but who of these tards can write a new song themselves or create music that people will listen to for years or decades? None. This show is bullshit and caters to a very incompetent majority of music listeners. I don't care if it is successful, it is SHIT

...and im drunk! yay typing skills

I hate American Idol cus its phony as FUCK... some of the people they find have some talent like Ruben and maybe one or 2 others but it dont change the fact that the show is complete trash.

I think I may have accidentally clicked on Clay, but I meant to vote for Reuben. Why are like 80% of the guy singers on that show so effeminate? If you're a good singer, you should be using it to hunt for poon, so my vote goes for Barry_White_02 instead of NSync_reject_23765.

It's too early in the morning for me to be posting.

American Idol is a thinly disguised Infomercial.

They are selling the movie.
They are selling the tour.
They are selling the the 'junior' Idols.
They are selling the previous winners.
They are selling the forthcoming album.

The early episodes, with the TERRIBLE performers are amusing and entertaining, but as the show progresses (ie: after you are hooked) it becomes a great big marketing tool. For every 5 minutes of 'entertainment', you're going to get 20 minutes of advertising.

Once they got rid of all the people who had no talent, I stopped watching it.
Listening to Simon rip into people is entertaining.
Listening to Ryan Seacrest pitch 'From Justin to Kelly' for the 100th time isnt.

He sounds more like an Elton John wannabe, than a N'Sync reject.

To be perfectly honest, I haven't even heard Clay sing. I have seen what he looks like, and that's what led me to the NSync comment.

I see they're coming out with a "From Justin To Kelly" movie or something like that, next year's sequel will be "From Reuben to Clay"?

I gotta go with Ruben for a couple of reasons:

1) The world has been without a "young" Luther Vandrous for a very long time, so his voice/style are rather fresh due to the absence of Barry Whitish stylings.

2) Cause you gots to vote for a brotha that represents each and every week!

Kylere will definately be coming out to see that one.

I read in the NY Post that Clay/Ruben are in the works to make a movie that would put them in a "Laurel and Hardy" type role.

those of you who say they didn't see/hear someone shouldn't probably comment on that person, afterall you can't really add anything meaningful when you don't know wtf you're talking about

now, here's my opinion

having seen last season and this one, it is a fact that this time they allowed much more diverse group to compete
and thank god for that
last season was more about the whole package, voice/looks/stage presence, this year proved that if you got talent and balls the rest of the package can be learned or corrected as you go

this year's final 5 or 6 will all get some kind of recording deals sooner or later, if nothing else it's a great jump start to a career that all these kids had a chance to taste

who would win? if I could get thru I'd vote for Clay but the number was busy the whole damn 3 hours lol
but seriously both of these guys and going even lower 3rd finalist Kim and 4th Josh are very different in style and tone, each one of them could win this with some luck
myself, at this point I don't really care who will win the title, I'll probably buy any albums they'll make

now what's on the album is a totally different thing, on the show what they did was mostly renditions of other peoples' songs, if these guys will get some good songwriters and musicians to work with them they'll go further than a great writer/poet whose lirics nobody wants to sing
remember that this competition is about finding a recording artist, there wasn't a requirement that these contestants have to write their own words and music, please don't diss them only because you haven't heard anything written by them yet
there are not that many artists who write their own music anyway

as for marketing hoopla surrounding the show, that's how today's network television works. I'm sick of seeing 20 minutes of programing stretched into an hour segment but that's why I choose to watch cable for most of my TV needs
if you want less commercials everywhere stop confirming in various polls and such that you are influenced by what you see/hear on TV
personally I rarely buy something because I saw a commercial, word of mouth, references of family and friends have more influence on me than TV/radio spots

P.S. punctuation is overrated

If the poll is who I think will win, I'll go with Clay - he has a huge fanbase of pre-teen girls. I'd have a hard time saying who's better since they're both great in their element. Personally, I think Kimberly on an on-night blew them both out of the water. She has the most amazing vocal and style range I've seen in a crappy tv talent show ever.

For the guy who rambled on about finding some garage bands and that's where they'll find true talent: I call bullshit on this. For every garage band there is, you're lucky if ONE of the band members can write a single decent song. The rest of the band is there to play an instrument which in most cases is done mediocrily. Singing is just as hard as playing an instrument and doing so well can be even harder.

edit: I voted for Legolas too.

I dont watch this show anymore, I too quit watching once it gets past the crappy people that Simon rips apart, but I hope Ruben wins, he absolutely owns. Also, hes so damn funny  , didn't he sing some Disney song as one of his? Haha.

Um thye couldn't have accentuated Clay's gayness anymore. Hrm, lets put him in the pink room with the flowers on the wall and the fuzzy apholstery. Lets get his fag hag on TV, so we can see his cute coy response when she says she misses him....sheesh.

its a pretty fun show to watch when simon has people to make fun of, the worst part of the show though is the singing :?

but hes right, its pretty much a bigass marketing scam with really cheap entertainment (putting people on a stage to sing karayoke)

I've been spending every Tuesday with my mother just to watch American Idol at the end of the day. Tonight I wouldn't have been surprised no matter who won. My mom is a huge Clay fan (I had a hard time not rubbing it in when Ruben won), but for me, the show completely lost its appeal when Trenyce got voted off.

Posted: May 22, 2003, 12:25 am
by Dregor Thule
Trenyce went when it was her time I think, I couldn't see her winning. I agree that Kimberly Locke should have won, and I think she showed both of them up tonight. All three can sing, but she's got the best performance presence. Clay's ambiguous gayness (well, not so ambiguous IMO, but a lot of people don't see it... how, I DUNNO!) always comes off as creepy to me, he's really fake. Ruben can sing for sure, and he's a cool guy, but I'm constantly afraid he's going to clutch his chest and keel over, and he doesn't do much else than just stand there.

I'm glad Ruben beat Clay, but ya.. Kimberly was the winner for me.

I wanted Clay to win, he clearly had more talent.

and he reminds me of willy wonka.

On a side note...

Maybe it's just me, but Justin Garweenie has got to be one of the ugliest little shits I have ever seen, and he can't sing his way out of a paper bag. I can't get over how the audience swooned whenever he would come on as a guest and "perform." What a bunch of crap.

That show sucks after the initial casting calls.

None of those people will ever make it very far, although the guy who did win has a really nice voice. However, it takes more than that to make it in the music industry these days!
