Lol, nice concept art.
The game itself doesn't look overly promising, but again, we will see.

I am mildly interested in WoW but I really don't have any faith in Blizzard to balance the game properly. 3 years after release and Diablo 2 is still a collosal fucking mess of worthless classes and absolutely godly classes. Warcraft 3 is mentally retarded in that I can pretty much beat anyone that isn't a god at that game by using night elves and clicking on that one hero's "destroy enemy army" skill.
The entire Warcraft universe bores me to tears. Humans are just the stereotyped King Arthur's Camelot big metal dudes clanking around with dwarves for added generic fantasy value. Orcs are just big green klingons with absolutely nothing added to them at all to differentiate the two things. The only other race I've seen so far in the game are those big gay yellow giant cows.
Hopefully it will be good but I really don't see what the big deal is about Blizzard games. Half the time they come off as uncreative and the other half they just seem totally incompetent.

Graphics are serviceable but the gameplay is too much AC2.
I've never been a huge Blizzard fan but they seem to put out quality games. I get the feeling that WoW is not going to be very deep or particulary groundbreaking but it should be good fun for newbie and novice MMOG players.
They seem to simplifying the gameplay too much to cater to the lowest common denominator which doesn't bode well for the longevity of the game.

Woot! Thanks Brit! I've been out of EQ for the last 5 days due to a bad car accident that I was involved in. I haven't had the time to log in, and while I don't think it'll be my retirement, looking at WoW just brings a smile to my face, knowing that when, eventually, I do retire Pah and Tara, there will be a great place to be reborn to.

Been following Warcraft ever since I managed to get raped by several burly orcs back in the day of Tides of Darkness.
I'd love to see this game be a success, but Blizzard is known for holding games back for ages.
Think it would be good if they had a more PvP thing going on, Orcs Elves and humans getting all cuddly is just wrong, they should be trying to kill each other so hard they piss themselves.
Mounts look good though, Horses and wolves and something else for dorfs, puppies maybe.

It looks and sounds like OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of fun. I've read about the quest system they are implimenting and I look forward to seeing it first-hand. The fact that they have strung along all the WarCraft lore is pretty cool.
Plus, druids sound pretty bad-ass

I've been wanting to play this game even before I saw Furor's post.
Now.. I REALLY want to play it. It would be nice to get into beta for this game.

i tend to agree w/ Kyo on my opinion of Blizzard's products.
they've never really done much for me, but the graphics in this new game look good.
i have no plans to buy it the day it comes out or anything.

I'm trying to contain my excitement until WoW beta gets underway.
I was all kinds of stoked for SWG a year ago, but my entheusiasm has dimmed. It looks like the Jedi system isn't even going to be implemented upon release (except for the ability to unlock a "Force-sensitive slot") so I'm thinking it's SOE SOP at work there
I'm such a fanboi

Like some of you others I'm getting pumped about WoW already. I have no idea how I'm going to manage to wait until it actually comes out. I can't get enough WoW stuff right now...I'm looking all over the place and eating it all up.
I'm really stoked that someone like Tigole is involved in the making of it. I always thought that if Verant would hire Furor or some other intelligent high-end player to help design an expansion that it would be tons better. It's also great that he's not the only one there who actually love RPGs. Developers with passion about what they're doing will beat out mindless code writers trying to think up timesinks any day of the week
Here're somemore pictures. I didn't feel like registering at IGN so no idea how many of these are there also. Click on the screenshots tab.

You know, I was thinking about how they would handle the jedi in SWG.
In my opinion, they are handling it perfectly.
Why would anyone NOT be a jedi in SWG?
Why would someone want to gimp themselves by choosing not to use force powers?
You would have jedi stormtroopers... jedi bountyhunters... jedi craftsmen, jedi merchants, jedi entertainers, jedi farmers, jedi scientists and jedi wookies....
In the Star Wars universe, there were very few jedi and most of them hid their powers or led very secluded lives.
It's going to be very difficult to attain a force sensitive character and perma death is an appropriate risk for having such a potentially powerful character.

Blue steel. So hard a cat couldn't scratch it.
Miir: I agree the Jedi system should be incredibly difficult, but the implementation they chose for it (unlock a separate char slot w/ your main, then make another character as Jedi) just screams "timesink to cover missing/broken content," to me.

Finally, a shred of insight escapes the suckhole. Blizzard games are hella overrated.

WC3 is definitely overrated. It has some outstanding elements, and some utterly fucking gimp ones.
Original SC was just OK, but the Brood War expansion turned that game into the shiznat.
WC2 was simply the best fucking game I'd ever played at the time.

Q: A screenshot released on Valentines Day showed two Dwarves hugging. Is that just photo editing or will this actually be possible in WoW?
A: That was an actual screenshot and not photo editing so it is highly likely that Blizzard was showing off a multiple user emote system of some kind, something very origional indeed to the MMORPG genre

I definitely won't be buying this game when it comes out. It kinda looks like playing in a cartoon of sorts. Not only that, I'm not dedicating another 40+ hours a week to a game ever again. I've come to the realization that maybe it's about time to grow up and quit putting rl friends on hold.
I'm definitely planning on trying EQ2 out though, most likely as a casual player.

Never, even during the peak of my EQ addiction, did I play 40 hours in one week. Much less 40 hrs/week for months at a time. That's just fucking hardcore...

I used to play religiously from 7 PM to approximately midnight every single night during the work week (Mon- Thurs). Play maybe 7 hours on Friday night and then 12+ a day during the weekend. It quickly surpasses 40 and that's being conservative. I don't doubt there are quite a few people that are used to investing that amount of time into a game. I just don't look forward to doing that again once another game comes out.

Mon/Tue/Thu, I usually play 6-12 (sometimes more depending on the length of my workday). On the weekends, I can put in 6-7 hours each day.
I never play on fri/sat nights and only an hour or 2 on wed.
I can see how playing 40 hours a week could be pretty easy.

Ditto on the time commitment going forward. Tons of things have changed in my life since the release of EQ. No way I can start over on one of these things again. Hell, I haven't really seen that much of EQ to be honest, with regards to high level content. Played AO for about 18 months (early beta included) and fell behind the pack in EQ as a result of that and my free time shriveling.

To put it simply, don't play that much then

Nothing is forcing people to play that much except themselves. It's just about enjoyment, or is supposed to be, and if playing now and then still gets you the enjoyment, then why not?

I'm with Hayley on this, during my peak I played WAY too much.
Buying a new online game is a great way to waste my prime years.
Worst of all, is you spend all that time getting equipment and developing your character, then you come to a point where you notice you can't take any of it with you.

Looks like the WoW devs are putting in fun content at every level of the game. Imagine what EQ would have been like with n00b quests that didn't yield junk, beginner dungeons suitable for more than just bottom-feeding, and crafting that's both doable and useable from the start. You mean I can feel like I've accomplished something before level 40?

Q: How many characters will be given per account, then?
A: 10 per account, and remember,
you'll never have to create useless 'mule' characters in WoW because of the banking system, meaning each of those 10 characters can be put to good use.
