So I hear that SOE is giving 7 free days to cancelled subscribers and I decide that it's a good chance to get on and catch up with old friends, see what's going on, etc.

I re-patch, try to run the game and as soon as I click "Play" from the patcher, I get an illegal error. I click close, and another error window pops up saying "Failed to load the graphics dll!"

The details in the illegal error window include "EQGAME caused an invalid page fault in
module EQGFX_DX8.DLL at 0177:0158deb6."

Is it a Direct X problem? I'm running 9.0.

Take it as a sign from above not to go back.

check to see if you have the latest version of DirectX

Go to your eqclient.ini file. Scroll down to the [VideoMode] section. Look for the line that says BitsPerPixel, change the value from 32 to 16. Should fix the issue.
