Guide/GMs

Last night I had to deal with one of the most ignorant newbies ever. While wasting time on a gimp in HK he comes n declares my room his new camp etc...you know how that goes. So to solve things he gets a full group to come KS my gimp. I went to my mage who was camped there for free summoning crap, and his friends left.

We eventually started to share the camp (raider room). He took 1 I took 2. And a guide, who I will keep nameless, answers my petition and comes down. After listening to this guy agree to share the camp 1:2 with me, the guide tells me to go back to my gimp and keep killing. He disappears and watches the newbie KS me again. Grats newbie warning. This goes on for about 10 minutes with the newbie denying that he agreed to share the camp, and refusing to roll. So after about an hour and a half of this crap going on and the newbie KSing infront of the guide, and talking back and being an overall wiseass to the guide. The guide asked for the 100th time if he agreed to share the room and said if not then he will be forced to leave the camp, to which the newbie responded "So this is my camp right?". And he argued some more. The guide asked him one more time, and he attacked my spawn as it poped.

The guide then left and went to OT. The newbie was no longer in HK, but OT too. Thus the problem was solved. However after another hour of the newbie trying to re-find HK he gets back and said that he emailed soandso at VI etc, I expect it to be bullshit, but he wanted the guide to be removed from his position. I see nothing wrong with that happened to the newbie. I have seen people ported out of zones before, I was even ported out once. I don't see a problem here, the guide did a great job IMO. But can he actually be punished for this?

If the guide witnessed, then he did the right thing.
Props to this guide.. who's the newbie?

Hell if I know, but there always seems to be druids killing the guards and random lowbies in the basement.

It is a lagless zone and picklaw ears are a good way to keep your freeport faction decent. Hehe, don't laugh about freeport, it's my favorite tradeskill spot (no lag and I already know where everything is).

Oooh! I know who it is :D

Stories like this always warm my heart... I hate jerks  and am glad to hear that they don't get away with it!

PS. The Guide followed policy, don't you fret :) *hugs*

Ever try to solo in DL unbuffed with a rogue? Its not as easy as with a mage, though I hate DL with a passion so thats prolly another reason Im still in HK. The exp is excellent still. The guide was quite fed up with this guy, my petition was answered fast and things were sorted out fairly, the newbie (Creama) had every chance to roll for the room I was originally camping anyway. The guide did a great job, I hope he doesn't get in trouble for this, though I don't think he will.

I don't think he was questioning it. I think what he was asking, and if not, you can satisfy my curiosity: At what point will that little fucktard-newbie actually get in trouble?

Seems to me like he deserves to get in trouble from the description.

Yeah, that sounds like an acct suspension type thing. KSing infront of a CS representative. Isn't that against the PnP? A warning is a bit nice if you ask me.

Guide vs moron

I think theres only one questionable thing about how that guide acted:
Should have given the moron a warning a LONG time before that, only a port to OOT is nothing for one that act like that not only to players, but in front of a guide too.

*Witnessed* KSing will get you a formal warning. Repeatedly doing it in front of CS Reps could score you a suspension, if you're dumb enough. Remember, guides cant suspend anyone, they can kick it up to a higher power and recommend that they do it though.

3 warnings will get you a suspension.

At least thats the way it used to be.

To me that was asking if the actions the player was claiming to take would affect the Guide... I guess it works either way though *shrug*

In that case, the player recieved a warning and now a reputation has been posted for OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of you players to see... Those are the punishments meted out so far. *hugs*

Lol, yes I meant to ask if the guide could be punished. I don;t give a rats what happens to the newbie. Kinda hope he forgets his password, or deletes himself.

I think the only way a guide could get into trouble is doing something like porting the jerk to a kos zone and getting him killed.

My understanding is that the guide cannot just port people willy-nilly out of troublesome zones like that.

He can ask for GM approval, and if granted, then he did the right thing. If he didn't ask for GM approval, then what he did was against policy.

The guide most likely documented what he did, why, when, who gave him permission in his reports to the Senior Guides.

If the noob did write eqcs to complain, his reports in his logs will show that he did everything proper and the guide will not be punished.

If the guide did not get permission, and the noob complained, then he might be removed from the guide program.

Never heard of a guide getting in trouble for porting someone away like that unless into a spot that would get them killed or make them lose their corpse. Heard about one guide getting really pissed off once pre-kunark and summoning random people to nagafen before haha, he lost his place as a guide but he was about to quit anyway so didnt matter.

Thanks for the clarification, Vannoth.

I guess the reason I'm asking is because I believe (through no fault of the GMs or Guides mind you) that CS is the biggest problem in MMOGs. Don't get me wrong, I've always had excellent experiences with guides/GMs for name changes, getting stuck, getting ressed for game bugs, etc.

It just seems like SOE (or it's competitors for that matter) are so afraid of losing customers that they allow disruptive players to exist in their games without any sort of recourse. Seekers of Lore anyone? Why are people like that allowed to exist? The bullshit that used to happen with Ragefire? A great man on these boards once told me that we play a mean game of telephone here, and he's right, but you can ask most of the populace of Veeshan about certain individuals, and you'll find out pretty rapidly who the troublemakers are.

It seems like the guides and GMs have a lot of bark, but their bite has been muzzled by companies that are unwilling to allow them to take the gloves off and protect the players from the problem children.

OF COURSE I COULD BE ON CRACK! Bear in mind, I'm not attacking SOEs customer service specifically, but rather making a statement about my perception of CS in MMOGs.

I am quite probably the single most disruptive player on the server.

Everyone should go out of their way to grief me.

Many people used to XP in High Keep because of the vast underconning of the mobs (the bards especially), easily exploitable pathing, and relatively high ZEM. I went there with my rogue rescently while waiting to kill Stanos, just to look around at all the secret passages ect. Its still packed to the gills with people doing this, including people nuking the guards at the dead pathing spots where they just stand and do not chase. Pathing is ok down by the pick claws, but there are still little sploits there too, so it attracts the lowest common denominator. Just walking through the halls there were 3 different people fighting over the same room when I was there.

All that said, I am glad there is at least a cursory GM presence online, even if its only guides. I played EQOA a little and that thing is a wide open grief fest with zero chance of GM repercusions. Immagine a whole server full of Seekers of Lore and you have a pretty accurate idea of what playing EQOA is like. Given how little is actually done to such flagrant repeat offenders as SoLore, I don't think that guide has anything to worry about.

Guides for the most part can't do jack to help you.
An illegal act MUST be witnessed by a GM for any action to be taken - sry =(

This is why those seekers of Lore fucks are still around.

One tiem in EC I was exping on a gimp with a bunch of other people levels 5-9. I was PL'ing my gimp with citra or pilsburry I forget...maybe both. But when other newbs showed up I just invited them to group, showed them how to play, and mysteriously they had odd buffs they never saw before.

A wizard comes in level 20 and starts KS'ing our camp.....I petition.

Guide comes and the guy continues to KS our group repeatedly. The guy is killing greens to give his friend the belts for exp...

Guide tells me there is nothing he can do, I say "well is it OK for me to KS him back then? I have 2 level 60's right here on the hill loaded on my other PC's" To which he replied "you will be suspended".

That's the type of customer service I was accustomed to. I'm just glad the dork got ported out, thats a step in the right direction.

I had a conversation with a nice Guide in chat once who was nice enough to take the time -- my question was along the lines of why so many guides were in chat but they weren't saying much.

He explained that most of the time a guide is in chat, he or she is there to get authorization from the GM there for something, or to check a /report, or what have you. Gave me a lot more respect for the poor gm sitting in chat, too -- they must be BUSY behind the scenes.

I am quite sure that this guide had full authorization to do this, and that not only did he do a good job, but is completely safe from any "repercussion".

That said, Highkeep and paludal are the worst ks zones in the game. New players get addicted to the rediculous xp there, and lose their minds. They do every crazy ks/train thing in the book. I levelled my frog in paludal, and while wandering the deep tunnels alone the /ooc and /shout was a continuous barrage of "stop ksing" until about 3am when I noticed I was alone in the zone -- camp 1 solo was rediculous. Got as much xp in a night as I did in a month in south karana way back when.

I once got stuck under the zone in OT and this guide came to rescue me and laughed at me and said I was an ugly female ogre and I should remain trapped down there.

It was very disturbing, I cried for weeks!
Though really I think the guide was just jealous of my purple makeup.

Just wanted to tell you to put your mind at ease. I was there that day. The Guide in question did everything properly and by the book. GM approval was obtained to remove the player from the zone.
