I like their suggestion to use it to flavour coffee :)

I'm guessing that 750ml of Bourbon would be better for you...

Glass of OJ, run up and down the stairs a couple times, sit back down.

Repeat every 60-90 minutes.

Voila!

Now, someone please tell me how to fight insomnia...

Been fighting epic-level insomnia since I was 15 and it sucks mightily.

Benadryl and burgandy wine.
Stomach can't take the wine anymore.

Seriously, anyone know of a sleeping med that actually works?

Two hours a night and being groggy all damn day is terrible.

my wife swears by Tylenol PM , which is just benadryl.

the trick is to take it about 30 mins before you would want to be asleep. not RIGHT before you get in bed.

take it, do a couple things, wash your face, brush teeth, etc, turn on the TV and get in bed. put on sleep timer and you may be asleep pretty fast.

it can simply be a matter of adjusting the time in your behavior cycle that you take your medicine.

Tylenol :(

Tylenol PM isnt something you should take daily (nightly)
It is pretty bad for your liver. I'd try something like unisom.

why not just masturbate like the rest of the world? :)

I realise it might mean you buying some ear defenders and maybe getting a separate bed if you suffer from motion sickness, Voro, but it's your wife's HEALTH!!!

I have never had a problem sleeping if I stay away from caffeine. This includes soda, coffee, and chocolate. You would be surprised how much stuff has caffeine added to it to make you feel good after eating it.

I would also suggest a regular exercise program. I try to run or walk 2 miles at least 3 to 4 days a week. It will help put your body back into a normal rhythm.

If the above doesn't work then go to bed but don't try to sleep. Instead while laying on your back, concentrate on your extremities and imagine any stress you are experiencing as a physical substance. As you take deep breaths, imagine that stress being pulled up into your lungs where it is exhaled. If you are feeling really stressed then it may be tough to concentrate but just focus on one toe or finger and then move to a foot or hand and so forth. This will relax you and make you forget about the anxiety of not being able to sleep.

If all of the above still doesn't work then go to a Psychiatrist (or is it psychologist?) and get a prescription for Trazodone. It is an anti-anxiety pill that helps you clear your mind. It isn't a sleeping pill but it helps you sleep.

I sometimes wish I had insomnia. All of my life I've had this wierd ability to fall asleep almost immediately when my head hits the pillow. I sleep like a rock as well. It's quite a task to wake me up and keep me awake if I haven't been asleep for a good 5-6 hours.

Caffeine doesn't really affect me for some reason. I can drink coffee right before bed and have no trouble falling asleep.

As for insomnia, a good workout is TOTALLY the best cure for it.
I sleep like the dead on the days I do yoga or go to the gym.
I need to get back into rollerblading this summer... I used to do 15-20 mile treks every few days on my skates.

OMG I hate you! :( I would LOVE to be able to just pass out as soon as I lay down. /sigh.

I take the herb Valerian, but it doesn't relax me enough to actualy fall asleep right away. When I get desperate I go and get prescription sleeping pills. /sigh

Ambien with a coca-cola. I tried it without the Coke and it didn't do jack or shit. Apparently the carbonated beverage speeds up the dissolution of the medication and allows it be absorbed more quickly into the blood stream (so my Doc claims anyways). Either way, it works, but be prepared for a massive belch.

I fall asleep to a movie every night. That's my trick really. I don't bother to ever change the movie either because I don't even make it through the opening credits before I'm sawin logs! :)

Must be nice! I usually end up watching tv/movies, or reading until I feel sleepy enough to head to bed. Even then I still lay there staring at the clock for about an hour after. /sigh

I really hate having to rely on pills to get any sleep. :(

Only movie that puts me to sleep is Matrix. I don't know why, as I really would like to see it all the way thru at least once!

Don't wish for insomnia bro, your too nice to have to suffer the daily dose of a minimum of ten migranes, the fatigue and the depression that accompanies it.

But yeah, I had a movie I watched to help me sleep. I must have seen Dune a million times now ;)

I took 4 Tylenol PM's once for a headache. I usually take 3 but since there were 4 left I didn't want to be an asshole and leave one in the bottle. I then got called in to work, and was a walking zombie for the rest of the day/night. I actually fell asleep while walking, until I slammed into a table.

Really shitty night. Though the headache did go away.

Ooogah,

The really maddening thing is that my wife is able to do the SAME THING!

I swear she can fall asleep between the last consonant and the period of a sentence.

Damn I wish I could do that.

Excersize shouldn't be an issue. Between working on two houses, horses and archery I'm not real concerened about secretarial spread.

ambien works really well for sleeping, but it's Rx only. take 30 mins before you go to sleep and works well. watching a movie with no sound or subtitles helps too for some reason.

Ambien is THE sleep med these days. No side-effects...

OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of "insomnia" ppl have these days is lack of exercise. Get like 30 min to an hour of good exercise in daily and it should really help. Bike riding, jogging, brisk walking, etc are great. Sitting at the computer sucks for getting to sleep. I have two close relatives who work construction daily and when they lay down and shut there eyes they are snoring like 5 seconds later. If your body is hardly used during the day, it doesnt feel the need to rest nearly as much.

In all my experiences, good exercise is the best help you can get for sleep troubles.
