Ok that's enough of that. One thing tho. Is this guy the only guy that pronounce GUI, "GOOEY"?? Driving me fucking INSANE.

I miss Dos , I use to love those 18 1.4 meg floppy installs of Leisure Suit Larry, Ah Sierra games were the bomb.

He just explained copy to us. He demonstrated it with pieces of paper "duplicating" aka copy. Ahh may zing! Now delete that file you just copied.. I'll start you off with a hint, the command is del.

On a side note, I saw the display on the new iMac. Would be cool is Apple decided to make those monitors for PC users. That thing is sweet.

yeah i think not being able to address more than 800k of memory is the mark of a truly great operating system.

god i had to use a DOS ap at work up until 98 or so, jeezus fuckin christ thank god those days are over.

the dos command line sucks as well by the way.

i have never seen a text editor worth a shit for dos either.

one of Windows biggest problems is lack of a useful command line (perhaps this has been remedied in XP, but i assumed it wasnt).

anyway, no coffee yet, so...

yeah, and at least in the US, "gooey" is standard usage from my experience.

that's how my old BASIC teacher called GUI's too. confused the hell out of me because i never heard it called that before.

same here. I work with HP engineers and they always say "gooey..."

You know, that just made me realize that I always say "Gooey" when referencing GUI but if I'm talking about a user interface I usually say "You Eye".

Perhaps I should start saying "Ooey".

One teacher with 20 years of programming experience also teaches Unix / Linex and he pronounces everthing with a hard "g"/ Gah-Nome, Gah-Nu, Gah-nibbles etc... he is clueless...

Another teacher was discussing subnetting and how you need to borrow bits to determine usable hosts and usable subnets... this guy spent an entire semester saying bowwer rather than borrow... the whole class would sit there and snicker... he never figured it out... THis same guy teaches DOS... he never says dos... he says D.O.S.

one teacher pronounces SQL as Sequel... One of my freinds calls it Squeal, I call it Squirrel...

While I'm here you can all learn to pronounce "en route" properly. ENROWT is a silly american term. Try "On Root" and you're closer to being understood by the rest of teh world!!

Well I always say "gooey" and "sequel" in place for GUI and SQL respectively. Call me lazy for saving a syllable *shrug*

I went to a conference once and one of the speakers kept pronouncing boolean as "Boo-leen" with 2 syllables, that really bugged the hell out of me.

I use boo-lee-an myself. I spell out SQL and I never call it GUI or Gooey, I call each graphical interface by name.

Sequel though I'll say Ess Q Ell about 50% of the time...Know a few folks who call it squeal...always thought that was them fondly reminiscing about Deliverance...

And Boolean definitely has 3 syllables...Hrmmm is it sizzlean or sizz lee an...

I'll never refer to it as gooey, would never call SQL sequel or squeal, and I'll call a router a rowter and en route "en root" (yes, I pronounce en as it should be, french, not "on".) Hell.. gooey makes more sense than sequel for SQL... that's just silly talk!

As a SQL Server DBA, I just call the language S-Q-L and the server "that fucking thing that seems to work better than all the other Microsoft enterprise doohickeys"

i've always pronounced GUI, gooey. as has anyone i have ever worked with or for.

In the year I was going to college for programming, every single one of my classmates , instructors and so on called SQL sequel. But, It could be in the same class as confused people from other states asking you if you want a "sack" instead of a bag at stores, which bothers the hell out of me..
