I used to back in high school. Through the early part of college (READ: 1-2 years ago) I did it at parties or socially. Now I don't even do it.

While I think it should be legalized, I think its a character flaw to be addicted to anything mood altering. I also think that as much propaganda is there about why weed is bad, there is just as much hoo-haw in the weed subculture about how great weed is for you & so-called historical stories *hint.* Just because some weed-oriented website tells you something does not mean its true. I've heard a lot of stupid stories with no foundation in history.

But like many other things in life, people believe what they need to believe.

well it was confirmed that many of these historical figures have smoked pot from neutral sources, historians etc, of course your not gonna see it in your highschool history books!
Generally pot is not good for you, it is not good to be "addicted" to pot, but being actually addicted to pot is about as common as being addicted to alchohol "alchoholics" most people can go without pot for long periods of time and not feel much, pot is less harmful to your body then alchohol is, and is also a lot safer to consume..., a joint is suposivly as harmful to your lungs etc as 4-5 cigarettes, a bong would be considerably less, yet people dont smoke 40 motherfucking blunts a day!

Pot heads all say the same thing: "Its better than being addicted to alcohol!" as if somehow that justifies being addicted to pot.

You just used a common avoidance tactic. In plain words, by using such logic you are avoiding the issue at hand, that you are addicted to pot. I'd say the same thing to an alcoholic who says "Its better than being addicted to cocaine!" or anyone else with an addiction who uses such logic.

I used to smoke pot, and was addicted to it. In the end, it just made me paranoid and nervous and I never could relax while on it. It definitely made me more self-conscious and that's not what I was looking for. I stopped about 2 years ago.

heh, I said being addicted to pot is bad...and it is uncommon as is someone addicted to alchohol (yet probrably much less common since less people smoke pot then drink alchohol)
never compared a pot addict to an alchoholic, except by saying in some comparisons it can less harmful to your body then alchohol, yet it is hard to "evenly" compare a certain quantity of pot to a quantity of alchohol

I've never tried pot or any drugs for that matter and do not intend to, hell I've never even gotten drunk before - and cigarettes are disgusting....but, as for those who actually do use all the above said things, it's your business not mine heh

cocaine isnt a plant, the cocoa(sp) plant is a plant, and that is not a drug, when i went to peru it was actually sold in bags to help "feel better" due to the high elevation, i remember my dad and brothers buying like 5 bags a pop

Smoking pot and being addicted to pot are two very different things. BTW. For instance I smoke it maybe 2 or 3 times a month, how this screws me up or ruins my life I dont understand. EQ, for example has had a much bigger impact on my life and my health than smoking some pot every now and then. And frankly it is much less addictive =p

Marijuana was made illegal for economic and taxation reasons, that is it.

Pot is only frowned upon due to the whole 'Refer Madness' thing from years back. It was lumped in with the 'addictive drugs' such as cocaine and heroin, barbs, etc...

Now, cocaine, meth, pain killers, etc are very addictive, much like the labeled 'hard' drugs. Yep, there are a many drugs out there that are really fucked and mess you up.

As far as weed, it does the opposite of a couple cups of coffee(unless you land that crazy no-cal shit). Maybe I am different, but I have never been 'addicted' to pot. Yes, I am addicted to cigs, sadly, but I could not imagine being addicted to coffee, pot, whatever.

With that said, everyone has a different chemical makeup....what is great or super-bad for one, will not necessarily be the same for another...Addiction is to the individual. Yes, folks can indeed be addicted to pot, much like any other substance. Although the chemical make-up of pot is not inherintly addictive, it really does not matter...some folks are addicted to love (RE: Peter Gabriel)...

Pot being illegal is based on a popular bias....that is all...

Incidentally, most other countries (thinking of the UK specifically atm, and the Netherlands since I have lived in those two) have a rating or classification system for drugs.

Cocaine and Extasy (the drugs of champions!! ) are Class A drugs in the UK, while good old Mary-Jo Anna and say... codeine.. are Class B drugs.

Incidentally, I remember a Medical Professor commenting once at university at some random college sponsored drinks fest that the only two major drugs that could kill an addict if they were taken off of them cold turkey were heroine and alcohol.

Herion was also set up in a fashion for addicts to go to a "clean house" to purchase it so they could use clean needles at 5 bucks i think i heard a pop to help control the spread of diseases. You have to use it there when you purchase.

I haven't done shrooms in a long time, but I used to have finishing problems. Nothing brings a trip down like the lack of a happy ending. X is a much better sex drug, IMO.

To whoever said that someone who is an active smoker (my sister) can just stop without any side effects isnt the brightest crayon in the box. She smokes once a day or around that and then had to quit for a month and she felt like shit and every time something even partially stressful happened she kept telling me damn i need to smoke. So yeah, you do get withdrawals from not smoking weed. But on the other hand her rambo-cough went away during this time since she wasnt smoking
