So tomorrow is my 31st birthday and I have about $1200 saved. I am going to be buying a new Motherboard/Processer/Ram and Vid card.

If any of you have anything insane as far as suggestions go... I plan on coming back into the EQ family(And Planetside/SWG Etc...) now that hopefully I will be able to raid with no lag (had a 900mhz POS this whole time, so I retired). I will prolly get more money so I am going to go all out on this bitch.

I'm thinking 2.8 1Gig ram, 128 mb Vid. I just wanted suggestions from some of you powergamers... and keep in mind, I am putting this together myself so no Alienware prefabs or anything prz.

See all you fukers inside EQ again soon.... GOD I can't wait to have a "Real Machine".

Sharky is your friend: http://www.sharkyextreme.com/

I at least consult that site every time I consider putting together a new box, if not follow their suggestions for systems in their Extreme, Value and High-End buyers guides. As always, note the date of an article as you are weighing what they say.

My buddy has an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, and it cranks out amazing FPS with all the graphic goodies on in pretty much every game he has. I've heard these cards have issues in EQ, but I can't say one way or another first hand.

Does anyone else know if the issues were resolved w/ driver update?

The price of these bad boys has come down to the $270 range for an ATI made OEM model, so they're cheaper and more powerful than the nVidia competitor.

Just don't do http://www.sharkysextreme.com/ like I did at work one day by accident. The one with a S in the middle is most definitely NWS.

I picked up a 2.2ghz, GForce 4 TI, 640 ram, Audigy 5.1 Game card for $685 from http://www.internetishop.com/

There keyboards suck but that can be fixed for $35. Forgot to mention that we got a DVD drive and CR burner in the package. We had the 21 inch monitor already so that saved us some money.

If you don't have a solid internet connection don't even bother.

If you hae a solid internet connection but aren't totally sure you want to come back to MMORPG's then I suggest you spend $300 ona top of the line video card (like GeForce4 Ti-4600 w/256m ram) and $60 or so on 256m ram for your old machine. And turn off all your models and give it a try for exp and such while you play "catch up".

You see it will take a while to catch up before you actually raid. During that time you save money by not going out drinking or other such social gatherings, plus you earn more money, plus the cost of the other components gets lowered. So even if you decide to go ahead and build the monster machine the $60 on that ram your going to have to leave in the old machine isn't really wasted...because you will probably save that much the 1-2 months you play catch-up so it's essentially free.

I know a 900Mhz can handle exp in Planes of Power with the models off, I had a P2-400 and a P3-600 running fine in it. In a couple spots when they still had GeForce2's I would experience lag. And on raids of course they had a bit of lag....but large raids won't really be an issue unless your level 65 w/30+ AA's most guilds won't want you. My gimp had that when I quit 3 months ago....and probably higher end gear.

Like I said when your up to level 65 w/30+ AA's and get some basic equipment upgrades that you can buy handled and still want to play, then you build the nice machine and ask to raid with a guild you scoped out. And really not lose any money in the process.
