The time of year for REAL sports fans to rejoice...

The annual dance for Lord Stanley's Cup begins tonight! Let the athletes take to the ice and begin the high spee ballet of violence and finesse that is the NHL!!!
May the rest of the NHL and their fans laugh at the foolishness of the NY Rangers as they take to the greens!
May my beloved Islanders upset the Sens!
May Toronto be swept in the first round!
May Vancouver kick ass and not bother taking names on the way to the final!
LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!
ps Sorry Dallas fans: the presence of Pierre Turgeon on your roster has ruled you inelligable from more than a medicore performance in the post season this year.

You need to add:
May a puck be directed off the ice and into Gary Bettmans head, putting him into a 5 year coma so he can stop destroying the game.

Montreal didn't make it. I r truly sad however not surprised.
Being that I live in Ottawa, I'm rooting for the Sens destroying the Islanders in 4. Hoping that Toronto and Vancouver win their respective series as well to keep a strong Canadian presence in the playoffs.

Done and done...
So what are your predictions?
I'm thinking a Dallas/Toronto final.
or
Jersey/Vancouver
Detroit doesn't have the goaltending to get them very deep and they are just too damn old.... Dave Lewis is no Scotty Bowman and that's going to become painfully obvious.
I think Minnesota is going to be the big surprise of the playoffs.

They have it.. just time for CuJo to really shine. If they can put up 3 goals a game (average) they'll make it to the finals. With Yzerman back, I anticipate Detroit making it at least to the Western Conference Finals, and quite possibly the Cup Finals. Repeat? Maybe!

I fear for my life if the Wings don't wind.. mainly because my household is full of incredibly over-reactive fans.

Detroit and Vancouver will meet in the Western final.
New Jersey and Ottawa in the East.
Detroit may not be as strong with Cujo as they have been with others, with their defense corps, they don't need to be.
Vancouver is the team of those 4 that I am cheering for: I like the team they have built for speed and toughness, without throwing endless streams of cash at it.
New Jersey is quiet and methodical and playing the team defense that others aspire to. If they get past Ottawa, they'll win the Cup.
Ottawa is like Vancouver: not a huge budget, no big dollar free agents. I'm kinda tainted by the years past with them though... they are good enough, they are fast enough but are they tough enough?

I doubt Ottawa will make it past the Islanders..

Oh boy now we get to sit through three months of playoffs. *YAWN* I like going to hockey games in person and love college hockey but profesional hockey on tv just doesn't do it for me.
Only 5 more months till Football season!!

Probably because most of the commentators down there aren't very knowledgeable about hockey... I have to turn off the volume if I'm watching a game on an american network. Fox coverage is getting better but it's still lightyears away from Canadian hockey coverage.
It's to be expected, I guess.

Maybe? Definitely!
It's merely a question of who they'll play, Detroit vs. Toronto would be a sweet Final.

I really like Mickey Redmond, though he's Canadian so that doesn't say much for American commentators. I certainly prefer to listen to the CBC guys over most US crews, though I tend to like our camera work better.
You certainly can't beat Don Cherry when it comes to style and fashion sense!

What about Ron Maclean?
Some of the US networks do have some nice camera work... but with bigger productions budgets they can afford to put in 20 extra cameras.

While I think this generalization is mostly true, there are certainly exceptions - notably Gary Thorne of ESPN/ABC who is fabulous at calling games.
This is a tough year to predict: As always, my loyalties fall Bruins first, any other original 6 team next, then the rest. As the Bs won't make it past the Devils, my best case series would be Detroit/Toronto, but I dont think either team will make it that far.
My prediction for the finals: Colorado over Ottawa

This thread is not necessary.
Detroit - New Jersey in the finals and this time Wings will stomp them into the ice for the insult back in 95.
Fast forward, Yzerman will retire at the age of 45 as supreme ruler of the universe and peace and prosperity will reign. End of story.

Hehe, old time hockey. I remember having a Cesare Maniago bubblegum card.
While we are at it:
It shoulda been the Whale in the cup finals last year, not the Hurricanes.

Anyone remember their
theme song?

It's times like this that I really hate being a Ranger fan. 60 billion dollar budget and they can't even get out of the cellar. The Garden is advertising for plant shows now that no winter teams are using it.
Viva la Disney on Ice!
